For thirty years I have collected military medals and combined this hobby (obsession) with metal detecting. Sadly, about five years ago, I developed spinal problems with five vertebra crumbling. It seems nothing can be done and, instead of spending six or seven hours in a session walking over the fields, I now find back and forward in my bungalow a few times is quite enough.

Continuing to collect medals is not a problem as the internet gives access to fellow collectors, medal dealers and specialist auction houses making it very easy to spend money. Also, the amount of information on the internet means that a substantial amount of research can be done at home (twenty years ago one had to personally visit places like the National Archives, British Library, India Office, etc. or get researchers near distant sources to do the work for you.

As mentioned in my "About Me" section, I am enjoying something that I know very little about but it keeps me occupied and off the streets

  1. Having changed computers all my old software was out of date and it has taken me some time to get organised with replacement programmes. So, my apologies for taking so long in expanding on my problem.

Because of my medical condition, I had to outsource the construction of a layout (8ft x 4ft) on a movable trolley with track in position and wired up ready for use using DCC. I did not think ahead successfully and now have a spare Metcalfe Single Engine Shed. One corner of the layout has a short spur and I thought I could use up the space to site this engine shed with the addition of a single length of curved rail. Unfortunately, I cannot physically make any alterations to the underneath wiring nor, with my lack of knowledge, do I wish to risk causing myself future problems!

I assume that it is not a matter of simply attaching the new rail - life is not that kind. I have considered positioning the short additional length of track (suitably  ballasted) with no physical or electrical connection to the existing spur (say a 1mm space between the rail ends). Obviously there would not be power to the short extension but I am happy to leave a "parked" locomotive or wagons poking out of the shed. Just to do something with the surplus shed and for a visual rather than working effect.

I hope that my lack of knowledge will not cause problems and that I have come up with a valid method of getting a result. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks for your comments, Nigel. Would be simple if it works :).

      MODERATORS:

Sorry to post this thread in the wrong section. At the moment I am rather lost as to how to move it to a more suitable section (if I can find one).

If a mod could move it I would be grateful and "will try harder in future".

@AY Mod, can you help Dave here?

Or he might need to create a new thread.

It's a case of copy and paste it as a new topic in the Modelling Questions sub-forum I'm afraid. I can't move status updates to topics.
