  1. The photos are a bit deceiving, it's less steep than it is. I tested it already wuth several trains. On the mainline i have added powerbase just to be sure
  2. And another update on Alloa Finally we have enough tracks pinned down so we can have a train running allong the trackk for major test works. the small coaching yard is also ready to be put into action when the time comes. i adjusted the depot for the engines because of the limited space so i came up with my own idea of making it interesting. Thats what i really like about the hobby, be faced with a problem and finding a right solution that looks beter also. Track laying is at a hold at the moment because of the massive back log at the Dutch postage service for international postage so all my new coaches and tracks are still stuck in the warehouses sadly. Secondly the lockdown here is not really helping me getting stuff for contours of the landscape. But it gives me time to try out all my engines and thinking about what will do next. Here we see my powerhub where all the wires are going for a safe layout. hopefully next update will include more pointwork so we can run more trains around. even with the layout in early stages it still allot of fun watching the train go around
  3. Hi W Well a bit bigger update this time. I finished all the hidden track for the mainline. Except a few tracks in my fiddle yard but finding turnouts at the moment is pretty hard. But pictures say more than my rubbish English as a Dutch guy. After the laying of the hidden tracks i finally could lay down the table top for my grand project wich also has a lack of turnouts at the moment vut i do have enough to make sure we can have a train running this Christmas. As you can see i have added a 1.1 profile of my trackplan so i can make the tracks the right way. Luckily we still jave enough stuff to do before we run out of thing to do. My local modelshop here in the Netherlands was pleased to supply me with british trains and my first one has arrived. I have also started collecting mk1 coaches blue but that's hard finding the right ones. I am not that experienced if the older version of Graham farish are just as good as the new ones. If someone can help me with some more info about alloa station. Photo's, building plans i would be very happy because its hard to find anything from this side of the water. Stay safe!
  4. Finally a bit more text from my side. I have decided to remove the extra platform, this wil give me a bit more scenery room instead of only tracks on the table You can see here the revised trackplan without the extra platform. I will use the tracks in the back to hold trains for a few minutes so i can simulate a busy rush hour. luckely the PC will help me with controlling the layout. I have also adjusted the small engineshed to make it a bit more usefull instead of the older more prototype version. I also start to kinda like a nice looking TMD. And well you need a good spot to display the more fancy locomotives. I am strugling a bit to stay with the Scottish theme. I do like a Class 52 western blue livery allot. Maby i can make a excursion train out of it. I have also started putting some work in the PC already, you dont wanna lay tracks all day. I still got to update with the new trackplans but it's getting allong nicely. Well that was not that much text as some people. Writing in english is a bit harder for me than speaking english. Kind regards and until next time!
  5. Ah you visited the metropolis of Lelystad. Fine city indeed
  6. This week we started on the tracks behind Alloa station. Placing the small helix and laying down tracks at the back side in the powerbase system. The table still needs a bit more work so the ramp will be more smoothly Until next time
  7. So here is the first small update. On this side of the room will be Alloa station. Still need some work before i can start laying track. I do hope to finish this week with the laat wood works because it's really not my thing On this side I already started laying tracks down. Sadly i can't finish the fiddle your because i don't got enough points to finish it atm because i want to make 2 tracks go all around first so i can have a train running.
  8. I got my inspiration from your layout
  9. Thanks Scott I tried to stay as close as possible to the real idea. Maby i will skip the extra platform.
  10. The radius are working fine, already tested and no problems here. I might remove the extra platform. Nut sure yet about it
  11. Welcome to Alloa Modelrailway For the interested people, Arbroath concept has being terminated in favor of Alloa After some thinking and lots of reading in BRM/Model Rail i finally got a good idea on how i wanted to have my modest size layout. I was always interested in the Alloa trackplan that was featured in BRM Trackplans and after some testing and help from Anyrails i got the plan working on my available space. Alloa Station is placed on my largest part of my table. About 5 meters long so i can just push the station in with long enough platform for 8 coach trains. I adjusted the layout A bit, removed a few points and added 1 extra platform because it adds some interesting movements in the station. Here you can see my trackplan. The small red line in the big station is the extra platform. I tried to stay as close to reality as possible but compromises cant be avoided and with the current stage of the plan i am pretty happy. Construction has already started on the branchline, the Fiddleyard is 50% finished but on hold because i need more points And i have placed 8 tracks in the fiddleyard instead of 6 in the trackplan. Trains can now drive between the 2 small stations and i hope before christmas all around the layout. depending if peco can supply the much needed pointwork. Luckely woodworks are about 85% finished so we can lay down track in Alloa Station. I will add some work in progress pictures later on If people got pictures or article about Alloa station please tell me. Kind Regards
  12. This topic may be closed du to changing of the layout/trackplan
  13. Thanks, i will have some reading to do
  14. Well A little update today I finished most of the station tracks on this side of the river. Still waiting for my order with the double crossover point. Pretty happy with the rail length in the station. The two terminus tracks will give room for a nice DMU and the other 3 platforms can hold a train with 6 coaches without making it look like its crampt into the station. In a perfect layout i would have 8 coaches but this will do. Next stop is laying the tracks at the back and finally put the helix in place before i can start do some Scenery work on the station.
  15. Thank you for the pictures. I especially like the second picture in the first group because i am working atm on that same spot. Lots of wiring and drilling atm. Enjoy the garden
  16. Hello I am a dutch guy with a affection for Scotland and the rest of the UK but moslty Scotland . I spend several nice holidays in the Highlands, just driving in the beatiful landscape. After we bought our present house i got decent space to restart my passion. After a few Dutch layout designs and even a german i finally settled on a Uk themed idea. So the search begun towards a decent trackplan but that was not that easy and i travelled from Kingswear to sheffield and even King's Cross was a idea. But in my search i spotted the Arbroath topic here on RMweb and i felt in love with the trackplan and the overal feeling of the Area. So i started working on my version of the station, Adjusted it to my moderate size room of 3m by 5m, giving me a table of 480cm by 300cm. Build in a u shape design for easy acces. Never had i so much space in N-Scale but still i had to learn to let go my unhealty planes for a massive tripple decker railtable. Arbroath station fits right into my new vision for my layout. a modest station connected to a shadowstation. I believe you call that a fidle yard. So after a day of headaches and trying out plans i finally arrived at my present plan. The hidden track may become vissible somewhere along the line but for now this is the concept. The blue circles are smal helixes for a single track branch line that i still have to design into the plan. But in my head its already I have Added a river into the station because i had a river in that spot already and it gives a nice touch to the layout. We have on the right the station itself with a fictional Branch line entering the Helix. Yes the helix is of the right size. it has being tested several times. i Am intrigued to ad the line towards the docks on the top of the station. It would give a nice additional flavor to the layout and a dedicated goods track. The branch line will travel above the mainline, about 10/15cm to creaty a nice rocky/hilly countryside. It will also get 1 or 2 small stations for a nice DMU or 2. I also had the idea of moving the locdepot towards the lower leg of the U shape but that will probably make the station to big and remove any options of a bit of countryside. purple: factory green: goodsdepot brown: coalyard, small trader red: Platforms dark green: factory pink: loading platform, cattle dock The layout will be placed from 1965 till about 1975. I just love a hst 125 but also my midland pullman train. A computer will take care of most of the operational fucntions so i can enjoy the trains with a nice glass of wine. But still can control any train if i wanted to do some shunting. This is the current stage of work. Parts of the tracks are already glued down will others still needs cutting and wires. Don't mind the mess, i always clean it to see it just as messy after 5 minutes again. Still allot of work to do but we will progess slowly
  17. Well my Name is Reinder. With 1 E but i have suffererd enough jokes about a Reindeer that i already have big Horns up my head haha But i am not from the UK, I live across the sea in the lowlands. Just really fond of Scotland and your trackplan works really well here. And Probably just 1 of the few dutch people that build a Uk Themed layout
  18. It's a lovely layout you are building. I especially like the attention to rebuild it as accurate as possible. And maby the most important thing i haven copied your trackplan into my attic and i reshaped it towards my n scale and dimensions of the room. Its a really nice station to build. Maby you can make some overvie shots from a bit further away so we can see the big picture
  19. Many thanks, i really like the round bit, you did a awesome job on it!
  20. Thank you, I have the time, because i am still in doubt of how i want my layout. But is has the same shape as your layout
  21. Looks great. Do you have a trackplan of your layout? It really looks interesting for my space
