  1. Its not just about unhappy Guild members. Its about a new fresh way and new modellers to 7mm scale. Nobody talks about the Guild any more we've got over it.
  2. It's a society without huge financial undertakings and without the baggage of certain others. Having been a 0 gauge orphan for a few years I bit the bullet. I've been a member for nearly a week now and only seen very positive things. It bears no relationship to anything I've seen before in this scale and is just the ticket for the future. Membership seems to be creeping up every day. Certainly changed the world of 7mm scale for me. If anyone missed it and genuinely wants to join in the scale-specific fun for a fiver, here's the link https://7mmscalesociety.org
  3. Well, been a member for nearly a week now. What a difference it's making to 7mm scale and 0 gauge for those who've signed up. Such a relief to join in to a scale specific society with such positive thinking and happy people during these times. It's already becoming quite a community. No regrets joining at all, especially for a fiver. Plenty of good people joined who've recently come from 4mm scale too. Here's the link in case anyone is sitting in the fence. https://7mmscalesociety.org
  4. Probably important to point out here that its not called 7mm Finescale Society as in the OP title, but The 7mm Scale Society https://7mmscalesociety.org .
  5. Totally agree with that. A new group with a new fresh outlook for 2020 onward.
  6. Yes NG modellers are positively welcome as far as I can see. Everything in 7mm scale, except not leaning toward coarse scale. More of a fine scale philosophy. Quite refreshing.
  7. It does feel very happy. And I don't get into slanging matches.
  8. Looks and feels like it's a very happy place with modelling only discussion. Glad I joined. What a difference from 'the other 0 gauge forum'.
  9. It's not been made byGOG refugees. There is nowhere to grumble on it and it has no secrets. It's modelling only, and it has to be payed for somehow. Thats all the fiver is for, otherwise it wouldn't exist! Advertising pays for the forum we are on here.
  10. This looks like good news for 7mm scale. Almost an early Christmas present.
  11. The secret is out. A group of modellers has got together to form a new society for 7mm scale modelling. Looks like an early Christmas present for anyone seeking a fresh re start without the politics in 0 gauge. The web presence and dedicated forum which is now live here https://7mmscalesociety.org where those interested can get more information and join if they wish. Membership is just £ 5 p.a. for the first year. The website is about to develop and there is a Youtube channel in the making. There is also a Facebook Group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1523417817820639 The 7mm Scale Society is an independent unincorporated, not for profit society. Why join? We are new, so you can help shape the Society. As enthusiasts for 7mm scale modelling, we welcome everyone (over the age of 18) from new entrants to the scale to experienced and expert masters. We can all share, be inspired and learn from each other. Questions and requests for help, no matter how basic, are always welcome.
  12. Just that RMweb is interesting and diverse, and the Guild forum is always so boring and predictable. I've found so much more on here since I've left the Guild.
  13. Not surprising this thread has gone quiet - so has the Guild I'm told, with little of real new modelling interest on its forum. I don't think anyone really cares what the Guild is or does anymore as its become so marginal. Good job we have RMweb and Facebook groups!
  14. But these are freely available. Apparently they were designed by the same person!
  15. I've only just seen this thread. These the best fishplates made by Permaway https://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/products/permaway Available through Phoenix.
  16. Its not irrelevant in the context that 20% is hugely more than normally vote. I think before it has always been more like 2%. In fact 20% is quite an achievment and the votes were almost split 50-50. The traditionalists tipping the balance. People were spurred on by the reform campaign on both sides. And I agree the issues will be raised time and again if they are not addressed.
  17. Not as simple as that I'm afraid, no offence but you obviously don't know the Guild!. Some of us left because we gave up trying to do things from the inside for very many years. It's got us nowhere. There is a motion for an audit that was finally passed at the AGM just now apparently. We'll have to wait and see.
  18. Apparently less than 20% of members voted. The numbers were almost split down the middle with traditionalists just getting in. Saying they accept things as they are is a very accurate way of putting it. It's not that people don't particularly care, they just accept things. So they will get the Guild they deserve. Pretty sure some of the worst bits will be changed, such as outrageous expenses for certain people, but the underlying feeling of being outdated will remain unless drastic action is taken.
  19. Most people are not aware that S7 wheels will run on fine scale track (that is the normal 32mm gauge) as long as the back to back is adjusted slightly and you have well laid crossings. Nobody can detect the track gauge being 1mm different. The beauty of not having 33 mm gauge S7 track is that you can run finescale and S7 (b to b adjusted) stock together!
  20. Yes for many that is vital, but there is also the modelling concept. It's not just track and wheels, that idea is a common misconception, albeit a very subtle one.
  21. Yes I accept that point. I guess I'm just speculating because there are so many Guild members and ex Guild members who are asking questions. Personally I will remain as I am as there is enough out there for us already. As for shows I like to go to all scale shows for inspiration not just 7mm scale ones. Probably like most people.
  22. Not quite sure what you mean. Best not to isolate a selective part of what I'm suggesting! It's not aimed at anyone personally. I also said it needs lateral thinking to broaden the appeal, in the same post. In other words we need to be a bit more creative in our thinking about a future for 7mm scale, especially as the world around us is changing rapidly.
  23. But they may not object today. Some new members have recently been coming from the fine scale fraternity because the S7 shop sells products that suit all 7mm scale modellers such as Exactoscale products. It may well be an opportunity. As I said it needs less fussy thinking. Lateral thinking to broaden the appeal. The S7 group has never been able to get much above 200 members. Who knows what the future holds. In fact the main obstacle is that one two of those running the Guild now, and in the past, are S7 Group members! It is here I have to admit to being a member of the S7 Group but I've never used 33mm gauge track standards. There are more out there like myself than is appreciated.
  24. I know what it refers to, but who cares about that, it's only an invention? They have the name.... Things can change, because I've seen people are now beginning to say 'I work to S7 standards but not the track and wheels'. So there's an opportunity there.
