  1. How about a bridge on a bus, so to speak, in the form of a double decker which has had an argument with a low bridge?

    Hornby B1

Photos up now on Hattons' site. Teak suburbans up too.

    Hornby B1

And awfully good it was, as I recall.

Speaking of which, ages ago somebody on the old forum (I forget who, I'm afraid) posted a picture of a very nice Thompson O1 built using a Replica/Bachmann B1 body and a Hornby 8F chassis.

Replica will sell you a reconditioned B1 chassis for £15, and a complete body and tender for another £15. You'll find them in the spares section of their website.
  6. Wonderful news. One thing I'm not quite clear about though: if I order one on the Kernow website, is payment taken immediately? There doesn't seem to be the pre-order function which exists on the pages for the other special edition models. I'm probably just not looking closely enough, mind.
  7. CL and BT, I think. First images up on ehattons: http://www.ehattons.com/35943/Hornby_Model_Railways_R4519_BR_Gresley_Non_Vestibuled_Suburban_1st_Class_in_BR_Maroon/StockDetail.aspx
  8. If anybody is after one, 'Tintagel Castle' was still in stock at the Signalbox in Rochester when I popped in this morning.
  9. One of the bogies of the first 'Leader' was badly damaged while on test at Brighton Works as a result of the works manager ordering that it be thrown into reverse at full speed. The damage was repaired, but it was never the same again and this is one of the main reasons why 'Leader' was initially so unreliable.
  10. I seem to recall that 'Antwerp' used to manage the 18 miles from Grosmont to Pickering on one tank of water with five on, but she would of course need to be watered at each end of the line after every trip.
  11. 2996 'Victor' was not an Austerity but one of a pair of engines built by Bagnalls for BMC Longbridge, the other being 'Vulcan'. They are best known for being the mainstay of the West Somerset's services during its early years.
  12. Bear in mind that very few Austerities were preserved before the 1970s, by which time they were pretty much the biggest things available.
  13. I'm very fond of Austerity tanks. They sound terrific when hard at work, have kept a number of preserved lines going when no other steam locomotives were available ('Antwerp' on the NYMR in the early 80s being a case in point), and are especially admirable given that they were originally designed to last for about five minutes. It's just a shame that so many have been disguised as J94s, which fools nobody and seems almost disrespectful.
  14. Only just found this, and it has inspired me to have a go at one of my own in the New Year. Incidentally, Anthony Coulls' blog recently revealed that a GNR tender of the type originally hauled by the Stirling singles and modelled (more or less) by Bachmann has been in storage for many years and is now being restored at Shildon for display alongside No. 1.
  15. That's mine ordered. With the Hornby 120 and 30119 also on their way, it looks like being a very 4-4-0-ey Christmas.
