    Hi all,

Officially they are described as saffron, white and green.

But, what shades/descriptions or RAL codes cover these and are there equivalents in the ranges of paints available in the UK?

The colours are actually yellow, turquoise and dark green (no idea where the saffron and white came from). The indian railways does not follow any standards for paint colours. Even the same workshops and depots will re-paint locos and rolling stock within days of each other and they will look different. They just use whatever paint is available in bulk.

Your best bet is to take an image of the loco in a well lit area, choose the mid tone (not a shadow, not a well lit area) and try and copy it.

I have added a sample below. Can do them individually if needed.

It won't stop Hornby doing a 56 painted as a 69.  Just look at their terrible new 57!!!!!!

Hornby are more likely to tool up a new class 69 body and plonk it on the Class 56 chassis than to re-paint a class 56 into a class 69.

Their NR class 57 is a budget model in a budget range not meant for serious modellers. As terrible as some modellers make it out to be, there is hundreds if not thousands who will happily buy it because a class 47 and class 57 look similar. They are not going to spend thousands of pounds to create a basic class 57 shell just to sell a budget class 57.

Why are the bogie steps so incredibly 'chunky'?

Things like steps ond other fine components are always an issue, scale steps will break very easily when man handled by the masses, thus you get 'Faulty Returns'. I know from experience that 'If' a step or other small component comes adrift (drops off), they we have about a 10% of customers return the product as faulty, the finer the component, the more damaged returns you get.

There sometimes has to be a commercial compromise to save 100's of returns/complaints.

In this current world of RTR models, nothing is good enough for some, you will always get 1% of people on forums moaning about 'Issues' they are not happy with, you cannot win here.

Well done Heljan for doing a 99% accurate model, I never understood why Bachmann did the Class 85 and not the better selling (Multiple Liveries) as on the Class 86.

Good spot. The steps are far too chunky. Understandably so, but Heljan have done a fab job on the Class 25 steps. So quite inconsistent?

I just ordered E3114 from Rails, aside from the steps, I'd say it's a really good model. Looking forward to it arriving. It the steps bother me when I get it, I think some etched ones could be added.
