Yes, hopefully for serious modellers rather than the daft Channel 5 show. Looking forward to the n gauge layouts. Hope I can ask a few questions though? Help often needed.

Look forward to meeting you. Please ask as many questions as you like. You may even get the odd sensible answer!

  2. In preparation for the exhibition we hired one of the large rooms at the town hall last Sunday so we could fully set up all three of the club layouts and give them a good test.

To hopefully whet your appetities further here are some photos.

    Firstly Invermire

Good evening Mike, apologies for not replying sooner. The screw couplings will not be fitted to the wagon but included as a separate item in the detailing pack.

    Hope that helps.

No worries, just thought you may have saved me a job! Nice to see they will be included with the wagon though.

    Hi all

I’ve just converted mine to P4

Ha, beaten me to it! I was just about to show details of the conversion I've done.

Having tried fitting the P4 wheelsets initially I was unsure whether they were binding on the backs of the W irons or on the brake gear. So after removing the wheels again I gently prised off the brake gear with a scalpel blade. Although glued in place, with a gentle bit of leverage it was possible to break the bond and remove the brakes without damage. Reinserting the wheels showed they now turned freely so no work was needed on the W irons. I reckoned the tops of the wheel treads were fouling on the bit of plastic sprue which joined the pair of brake shoes together so I just removed this and reattached each brake shoe individually, securing them with a touch of cyano glue and repositioning them to suit the wider gauge. The brake cross shafts were then replaced using slightly longer lengths of 0.31mm wire, sprung into place and secured with more cyano.

I've just today received delivery of some Accurascale PCA cement wagons and whilst not wanting to get drawn into the debate over which is the better model it does look like a similar amount of work will be required to convert them to P4.

  5. In addition to the three previously mentioned Hessle MRG layouts we are now pleased to confirm the following additional seven visiting ones.

Filey, Bridlington Model Railway Society. OO gauge portrayal of the station between Bridlington & Scarborough in the 1950s/60s.

Betton Street, Richard Hayden. OO gauge. Based on the loco servicing and Network Rail maintenance depot at Shrewsbury in 2000-2010.

Fox Valley Railway, Jason Johnson. N gauge western region terminus station set in 1960s/70s.

Hollym Gate, Brian Sunman. OO gauge based on the station on the former Hull to Withernsea line in the period 1950/60.

Chester Road, Bob Denton. OO gauge North Eastern/ Midland region servicing and fuelling depot in the mid 1960s.

Dolwyn, Dave Holmes. 009 gauge. Based on part of the Glyn Valley Railway in North Wales in 1930.

Box File Layout, Steve Grantham. OO gauge. Somewhere in England in the 1990s showing what can be achieved with a few box files and a lot of imagination!

In addition we can also confirm the following trade support.

Caistor Loco, general supplies of locos, rolling stock, scenic items etc.

Custom Layout Signs. Laser cut layout nameboards and replicas of loco headboards etc.

4 2 2 Modelmaking. Resin cast building and coach kits.

Spotters Collectables. Railway books and memorabilia.

Also there will be some second hand items on sale.

Finally don't forget there are light refreshments available for sale with plenty of home made cakes and pastries.

All this for just £2.00 admission (accompanied children free). It's got to beat even Aldi for value for money!

    Hope to see you there.

  6. At the risk of upsetting the Anti-Puffer brigade on here (!) here's a photo of a model a friend has just completed. It's to be used on our club's O Gauge layout Invermire which is based somewhere in the north of Scotland in the 1970s/80s so hopefully we're not pushing the boat out too far!

Lovely detail on the box. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could have the sounds to go with it.

    Don

Yeah. The gentle sound of the coach passing by. The bird going in and out of the bird box on the end of cabin. The signaller swearing about having to go up and those steps again with the token!!

  9. I know I haven't put anything on here for some time but work on the scenic detailing of the layout is progressing steadily. Last night Shaun took this photograph which I thought was rather good so I've included it here by way of an update.

If you want to see the layout in the flesh it will be appearing at our club's exhibition on Sunday 6th October from 10.00 to 16.00, venue is Hessle Town Hall, South Lane, Hessle, East Yorkshire. I'll start a separate thread in the exhibition section in due course detailing all the layouts etc which will be there.

  10. Seems they can't get enough of this exhibition lark as they've been out again this weekend at the Carlton Model Railway Society's Show at Howden!

Sadly one of them suffered some damage losing the handrail around one of the end walkways but nothing that can't be sorted.

    In addition there will be trade stands from;

    Yorkshire Wolds Railway

    North Yorkshire Moors Railway

    LNER Conservation Association

    Derwent Valley Light Railway.

  12. For those of you who are not familiar with the Yorkshire Wolds Railway it was set up just over ten years ago with the aim of re-opening part of the former Malton & Driffield Junction Railway. The group has its base at Fimber (across the road from the old station) and initially it is working to restore the line as far as Wetwang. A short section of line is currently working at the Fimber site but the next twelve months should see significant progress in advancing towards Wetwang.

As part of the fundraising scheme the Railway is hosting its second model railway exhibition at Wetwang Village Hall on Saturday 16th March from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. There will be ten layouts on display including my P4 layout Boston Frodsham plus various other exhibitors. Admission is just £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for children with all proceeds to the railway. So I hope you'll be able to come along, if you do please say hello.

Below is attached a poster for the show, if you can please feel free to download and display it to help publicise the event.

Cheers. But given the last post on it was on 16th February ( by Simon Bendall) why isn't the thread a couple of spaces after this one given that they are supposed to be listed in order of latest post first?
