  1. Brian A question for you, I am about to get a Heljan Deltic and wanted to know if the ETH castings that JLTRT sell are appropriate or did Deltics have their own type of equipment ? Thanks Richard
  2. Brian The air braked Van looks great I wondered if we could get JLTRT to do an air braked version ? Richard
  3. They look a lot better Brian but that looks like it adds a considerable amount of work to building one. I am sticking to building pre 58 version without the window frames, plenty of those survived into the 80s. How did you do the lining ? Richard
  4. Brian It is looking really good, I ordered mine at Telford so hopefully it won't be too long before it turns up, not that it matters really as I have just a started 3 class 37 locos that should keep me busy for a while. Richard
  5. Brian They look really good except for those window frames on the CK, I won't be buying any of those. Richard
  6. Brian I never find photos of blue grey coaches boring so please post some more. Thanks Richard
  7. Brian This sounds more like a hard drive problem, is the computer making a clicking noise, if it is, thats a clear sign that the hard drive/s are on the way out and your pc is finding it difficult to boot from the hard drive. I had this problem earlier in the year, I ended up fitting two new hard drives that cost £50 each and I now have 3 terra bites of storage so that you should be enough for while. Richard
  8. Sounds like your pc needs a new power supply Brian, a relatively easy fix and a lot cheaper than a new computer. Richard
  9. Brian I suppose that is one advantage of scale 7 then Brian we don't have any tight curves so I can get away withthe solid connectors. I do like your open second and I see you have a builders plate on the CK who is selling those and do you know of anyone doing the data panels that appeared on these coaches in the early 80s ? Richard
  10. They look great Brian, can you tell me why you are using those corridor connectors, they are not the ones from the kit are they ? Richard
  11. I think they look great and do capture the look of the real thing. I shall have to wait until Christmas (unless I get tempted at Telford on Saturday) then the other half can buy me one as a present. I wouldn't be worried by the naysayers, they do not have to buy one. I think these will be Heljans best sellers. I just wish they would get on with the 31. Richard
  12. Deltic 17 For a lot of us 40's were the engines long before the Deltics departed, in fact Deltis were viewed as a nuisance as they always turning up on overnight east coast expresses when you didn't want them. Its only when they are long gone that you realise how good they were and how much you miss them, 40s, Deltics and all the others Richard

  14. Thanks Brian, I just need to get some 2inch Tamiya masking tape, where do you get it from ? Richard
  15. Brian The 56 looks great, how do you mask off the yellow to get the curved corner ? Thanks Richard
  16. I think the problem with the axle boxes on JLTRT wagons is that the white metal casting process is just not that accurate, I would much rather see an etched brass W iron witha cast axle box. Richard
  17. Here is a photo of a real bogie as you can see the axle box should be in the middle of the frame the reason yours are not is because the springs are too long and need to be shortened.
  18. Brian If you do redo them, just be careful not to take too much off as if you do then you lose the spring effect and end up with a rigid bogie, so start by taking off 1 coil and see how they fit. I have to say that I like these bogies they run extremely well over my deliberatly poor quality test track, much better than rigid bogies. It is just a shame that the quality of the castings could be better. Richard.
  19. Brian Its starting to look good. I made up some of the commonwealth bogies a few weeks ago and found that I had to shorten the springs as they were the cause of the bogies riding too high, I cut 2 coils off each spring that left just enough movement in the bogie without requiring a lot of compression, they work really well. Richard.
  20. Boris I used HMRS transfers but these are a pain to apply as the small detail lettering goes every where but where you want it, it looks OK but it took ages, I have just bought some fox ones for the another one which should be a lot easier to use. Richard
  21. Boris My JLTRT GUVs are painted rail blue, my research shows that the sole bars were also painted blue, but as you have said most of them developed grimy brown solebars and an overall look of dirt. Richard.
  22. Brian I don't know about having the correct casting in the GUV kits, I have three of those and they are the same as the others all complete with rivets. It is not a big issue but I just wish they would get it right. It is a shame to repaint your 56 but I know it doesn't fall intot he right period as Loadhaul Richard.
  23. Brian No I hadn't noticed that you had changed the VAC cylinders and even going back to look again it was hard to tell that you had, they do look better though, are they from westdale too ? how much are they. I didn't think the dynamo was too bad. I too like JLTRT kits, I think they remind me of building airfix kits as a child. Richard.
