  1. 5 years after I started building it, I finally have the OBA ready for cleanup and paint, I have detailed the insides and added a wooded floor to the wagon: IMG_20201018_173658 by James Hockley, on Flickr IMG_20201018_170429 by James Hockley, on Flickr
  2. They are on a laser cut paint rack from a company called TT Combat, about £15 and holds a 100 pots.
  3. Another couple of my projects in desperate need of completion! A Parkside Grampus I have tried to convert into a Rudd, it needs lamp irons and air hoses. 4. I thought I would share some 7mm projects I am working on. First up a PRMRP OBA. Built the kit years ago, it was my first brass kit, so be kind... Now having decided I need a layout I am adding some extra detail before cleaning it up and painting it. 5. I have half an idea for layout, based roughly on Millburn yard in Inverness, I don't intend for it to be an authentic recreation as I don't have the space for one thing. Not knowing a huge amount the infrastructure of real railways, would a lot of changed between say the early 1990's and now? In scenery terms changes are pretty obvious, road vehicles, advertising and so can easily date a layout. But the actual infrastructure, the track, the signals and so, would they be much different?
  6. There are only 2 sets of bolsters on those wagons. It is only a trial so my guess is they have taken what is available and cheap to prove the concept. As for the 3 locomotives, I can only assume it is incase 1 fails?
  7. I also found this: https://youtu.be/nDWag_KiOZM
  8. Thanks Phil. In which case I will pick up one of the Cambrian kits, a far cheaper option should it prove too difficult. James
  9. I was looking the wagons, easy enough conversion. Maybe on the Cambrian kits version as a basis.
  10. A bit more research and I found this. https://www.logisticsbusiness.com/transport-distribution/railfreight/victa-railfreight-trials-timber-movement-in-scotland/
  11. I have been reading a couple of articles on recent trials of Scottish timber trains, they where using West Coast Railways class 37s and what looked like BTA bogie bolster wagons. Does anyone have any further information of this trial? James
  12. I am after some inspiration for prototypes I can adapt to fit a small layout I am planning. I am have a few criteria in mind: 00 4mm scale Using Peco Bullhead code 75 (I know the points are big but they look very good to me) Set in the last 10 years Industrial freight operations Layout size 6' by 18" plus 3' fiddle yard - or there abouts. Makes use of available wagon types Ideally short trains... I have come up with a few ideas: China clay Cement works Cement distribution point Ready mix distribution point Boston Docks Any ideas welcome!
  13. I quite like the idea of a preserved railway, in addition to regional railway. I quite fancy a small steam loco with some Thunderbox carriages chugging up and down. The steam loco in your photos is a big brute.
  14. Thanks Michael, I take the station is no longer in use? James
  15. With a small revision: German 11 by James Hockley, on Flickr
  16. i have been ding a bit more Google research, it shame you can't get street view in most of Germany, but I found an interesting option: Weissach by James Hockley, on Flickr It is a small terminus that features an engine shed and seems to also be the destination for a preserved railway at the weekends. I came up with this plan: German 10 by James Hockley, on Flickr I added the extra siding at the bottom so I can load timber and maybe sugar beat.
  17. Thanks chaps. I am beginning to think I am going to struggle to accommodate everything I want in one layout. I am more interested in freight operations, so perhaps could be better off going with an urban theme, I have been looking at Hamburg and it offers so really good potential for for dense urban freight operations.
  18. Or maybe: German 8 by James Hockley, on Flickr I widen the baseboards a tiny bit.
  19. I had a little redesign: German 7 by James Hockley, on Flickr Not sure, but I think it might be more realistic?
  20. Hi Les, It is terminus, so on the right neither lead off stage. I did think I should flip the points so they clear the station. Would that be needed if it a terminus? James
  21. I thought I would share my plans for a small German HO Layout . The plan is for 9ft by 1ft scenic section with fiddle yard if and when I ever exhibit the layout. Set in the last 15 years or so using Peco code 75. Loosely based on an article in old magazine from 2007 called Modern Railway Modelling on place called Nagold near Stuttgart. It features a small station, timber loading a warehouse for fright forwarding.
  22. Thanks Simon, I had a look at Hamburg, one the few places Google Street view seems to work for Germany, the docks area is a bit of goldmine for inspiration.
  23. Hi, I have been looking for a little inspiration for a small modern image German HO layout I am trying to plan, I have been doing some google image searches but my German is not great and google translate is not always perfect. I have searched a few terms, Nebhebahn, localbahn, privatbahn. What I am looking for is some images of small industrial settings. Can anyone advise what I should be searching? James
  24. Thanks for the advice, I have had a word with Dan and things are in motion. Full repaint was a bit more than I wanted to spend, so I am going for a patch job and some nice heavy weathering and some ditch lights.
  25. As the title says, can anyone recommend someone who offers a loco repaint service? I have a couple of HO switchers I want repainted into a shortline scheme. Never had anything like this done before so if anyone knows a rough cost so I know what to look for?
