  1. I have found time over the last few days to design and cut out using my silhouette the following slightly daunting pile of bits for the bridge. I am not sure about the rivets they may not be prominent enough, but worrying about that can wait until after painting.

Edit: the pile is bigger than it looks...

  2. I finally managed to get some time to actually start the physical work.

I made this model of me rowing a rather nice Empacher when I was at uni and have never found the right place for it, until now!

The basis of the land form has been put together and a start on the greenery. The boat will be glued down once the water has been finished.

The other bit to be reused is this platform with terminal boxes on, the boxes are ratio I think and the platform was made from plasticard and brass wire.

  3. Time for me to throw my hat into the cake box...

I have been scrabbling around for a decent idea for this, then looking through the excellent entries posted up on here what I need to do is add water to electricity.

You will have to bear with me for a few days for this to start for seasonal reasons but it will contain:

    -Flat water

    -A small boat

    -A bridge

-A length of London Underground track

-If I have time then either some A or S stock (scratch built to keep cost down).

The aim is to do it all from consumables and the bits box.

    Budget will be £10.

  4. Thank you Hayfield and Graham.

I was surprised by the lamp iron positioning too, but I am working from a photo of 2516 on Mike Morant's site, I might resite them if I can find a clearer (or older) photo

I am lucky in that this came with wheels on plain axles rather like Gibson ones. At some point I might well swap the wheels out for modern ones and replace the connecting ride and crank pins eye.

Swapping the drive gear out was surprisingly easy.

  5. This post is about a new experience for me, a white metal kit loco.

I picked up a part built dean goods with a load of missing bits very cheaply and decided it would make a good basis for a first effort.

After a few runs, the K's motor mk2? (the smaller one) packed in so I replaced it with a 99p jobby from china and a high level (i think) gearbox.

one of the advantages of this was it allowed me to complete the bottom of the boiler which had been removed to allow the K's motor to fit.

a coffee tin proved perfect for the job along with 145 degree solder and a huge amount of flux.

  6. The front few inches of the layout have developed signs of life. In the middle distance you can see that telegraph poles have started to go in.

I have been wondering what to do about the road edge where it runs alongside the stream, fortunately at Scaleforum I found a kit for exactly the type of fence I have been visualising. It is pricy but looks dead easy to put together.

Whilst there I also saw a chap using plastic wig hair and scatter for foliage on trees, I really liked his effects so had a go myself, the first attemt isnt great, but probably is my best tree to date.
