  1. Why is there not a single diesel/electric loco in the Collectors club exclusive range?? There is currently 9 steam era models in the range. Hornby really need to include modern traction to the range if they actually want to attract younger members to the club. If they can include steam models up to £130 then why not a diesel, even just a limited edition sentinel or railroad model. The £20 voucher is currently useless to me!

  2. I really wish Hornby would produce the Virgin TGS again, but this time make it match Hornby's previous Virgin HST coaches. ie make the stripes the same thickness, Virgin logos the same size AND most importantly have silver window frames!! Only the loco hauled Virgin mk3 stock didn't have them painted silver. I have rake of both Hornby Virgin HST and loco hauled mk3s and the TGS just looks out of place as it is painted wrongly. I could try to paint the window frames myself but it wouldn't be as neat as the other coaches, plus I shouldn't have to do this in the first place!

Strangely, Hornby never produced the numerous TRSB buffet coach. They did try to modify (badly) the Lima TRUB into an RFM which is similar to the TRSB but it is a bad compromise. It's about time Hornby (or someone else) produced a full range of mk3s to modern standards!

  3. I recently purchased some R8096 12.6mm Disc wheels from two different shops. Packs from one shop have code SK101-P90270 and have the wheels packaged horizontally (left packet on picture). The packs from the other shop have code REF01-90761 and have the wheels packaged vertically (right packet on picture).

  4. Does anyone happen to know how Hornby created the RFM coach? Did they just modify the Lima TRFB tooling or was it new tooling loosely based on the Lima TRFB? The reason I ask is would it be possible for Hornby to produce (using the same method) the similar but much needed TRSB.

A TRSB even just to Limby standard would be better than none at all!

  5. Might I ask why you don't look into Laserglaze Mk3 tinted windows? Having bought all ages of the Mk3 coach, you never get the whole glazing row off, leaving lumps of internal plastic, thus difficult to re-apply. Shawplan's Laserglaze range is an excellent Mk3 window replacement.

Lazerglaze looks great but I can't really justify spending hundreds upgrading all my mk3 rakes. I'm assuming if Hornby did release the glazing as a spare it would be significantly cheaper than Lazerglaze. Plus I reckon if I splah out on Lazerglaze a super detailed version will be announced shortly after (sod's law etc).

  6. Hornby's initial scale length (Top-Link) MK3s came with thick flush glazing leaving an annoying rectangular halo appearance inside each window. This was fixed on later releases.

I don't want to replace all my Virgin Top-Link coaches with the later ones since AFAIK only the early Top-Link ones have the correct silver window surrounds for the HST (Virgin's loco hauled coaches don't have silver surrounds).

Hopefully Hornby will produce the tinted glazing as a spare so I can finally upgrade my fleet. The new glazing looks so much better!

  7. I emailed Hornby asking if it's possible to obtain the tinted glazing so that I can upgrade my existing coaches. They replied saying they'll pass-on my email as an idea to maybe produce them as a spare.

Hopefully if enough of us ask they might actually produce them!
