Just seen in the digital edition of Hornby Magazine, Peckett no. 560 in works green livery with additional lettering along its footplating due in 2018, full details can be found in the Engine Shed blog today.

It looks very nice indeed.

I'm very proud to say that my daughter was involved in the design of the images that were projected onto the side of the building. She said that the research involved was quite upsetting. We will be watching the BBC programme tonight on iPlayer.

At the moment Model Rail is a bit cheaper direct from their own app but when I subscribed it was much more reasonable through PocketMags.

Model Rail is now available through PocketMags and has been since the beginning of the year. I should know as I have a years subscription.

Regarding the video link, I get my Model Rail through PocketMags because at the time I wanted to renew my subscription, they were considerably cheaper than Bauer, had I realised there would be no video links and extra pictures I might have reconsidered.

The price between the U.K. and overseas digital versions was vast although the prices have changed and are equal now. I could never grasp why there was such a difference between the overseas and U.K. digital price seeing as no postage is involved.

A couple of years ago I had an issue with the layout photos being grainy, they are better now but do not stand up to magnification like those in the other digital magazines.

Despite all this I really like Model Rail.

About 6 months ago I bought a second hand R2711 SR 729 at a swapmeet. It has the incorrect tender frame so it is one of the early ones. It runs well at present, is this likely to have problems in future?

I am wondering whether it would be worth buying the Peter's Spares part as a precaution. I live in Africa and importing the part would be a whole lot easier than sending the loco back although I doubt Hornby would repair such an old loco.

Has anyone else had problems with the first batch of these locos?

I've just looked on my page 34, no video link. Confused.

Sorry to add to the grumbles but what has happened to the interactive features that we used to have with the digital issue? There used to be extra photographs and video clips.

Digital copies of Model Rail and other magazines are available from PocketMags pocketmags.com you can subscribe or buy issues singly. I get all my railway magazines that way. Prices are quoted in US dollars and U.K. Pounds, I live in Africa and have had no problems so far.

I contacted Model Rail when Great British Model Railways was published not so long ago and they said that it would be available in digital form soon, so when it does come out you should be able to get it from PocketMags.

I hope they hurry up with it.

Page 75 in my issue features a high speed 'slide show' where the 'background history' picture is situated. The 'slide show' is very fast so none of the pictures can be viewed properly. I assume there was meant to be a series of extra pictures for the digital version of the magazine.

I've deleted and reloaded the issue twice. I'm using an iPad. Has anyone got this?

Thanks for the reply. So older locos like the Terriers must have a history in paint on them.

I've just seen a picture of Stepney on the Bluebell Railway with a new coat of paint. I'm not sure when the picture was taken but it got me thinking, when we re paint a model loco, we just dunk it in stripper to get it down to plastic and paint it from there.

What do they do with the real thing? especially in preservation. If they just give the loco a sanding down so the surfaces are smooth and then paint on the new colour then some of the older locos must have quite a few layers of paint. Chipping back the paint would give a good idea of how many different livery changes the loco had.

What counts as "usual garden wildlife" in Africa?

Nothing too exciting in the urban areas, just snails, frogs, birds, cats and dogs.

From one extreme to another! anyone want a H&P Peckett for £22,28? There is an eBay listing for one, the snag is that it is in China,of course that's not the only snag, I suspect it's a way of harvesting bidders personal details.

I have just reported the post as there have been quite a few of these lately, previous genuine listings are cloned with the exception of the price which is ridiculously low. There have been quite a few 'bargain' n gauge locos recently too. Experienced modellers who know their prices won't be taken in but maybe newcomers to the hobby will get caught out.

I assume that when the canals were in their heyday there would have been long queues at locks which must have slowed things down considerably.

They could certainly manage to pull a horsebox as this clip shows.

I only recently found out about shunting horses and find the subject fascinating so much so that I've included some stables on my layout.

A local modeller here in Africa has built an 00 gauge garden railway. Due to extremes of temperature and the usual garden wildlife he has built wooden covers for the track which protect it when it's not in use. N gauge would probably work better with some sort of track protection. It must cut down on cleaning too.

I am really impressed with this digital issue. BRM has really taken advantage of the medium and the interactive features are great. Added to that two very good N gauge articles and a very well put together issue in general, I think I might have to subscribe.

I've never understood why getting a magazine a few days ahead of anyone else is seen as a perk, what's the mad rush? I live in Africa where we are lucky to get any post at all! Magazines used to go missing and get mangled regularly which is why I switched to a digital subscription.

I have just seen a picture on FaceBook of a beautiful blue Peckett named "Lytham St. Anne's" which has just been restored and is at the Midland Railway in Butterly. It looks just like the Hornby H&P loco. The picture was taken by Simon Beedie and is on the UK Heritage Hub page. By the way, I know a lot of people are anti FaceBook but most of the railway groups, magazines and preserved railways have pages so it is a great source of news and photographs. 

The loco sold was in Stafford, there must have been a bidding war, the seller must be pleased. It seems as though they are turning out to be quite a good investment (if you managed to get one for RRP)
