    Hi Jeff, i've been away from the forum for a while the Airfix kits have taken over for the time being, and I've been spending my time on other forums. The second viaduct is looking good. Once you put the tracked in it is going to look rather impressive. Jonathan: Looks like you work a few hundred yards from me, I too work on Teesdale, over in Churchill house, and in sight of the worlds first ticket office. St. Johns crossing on bridge road. The birthplace of the railways. (let's see who disagrees! ;-) ) Al

    Cheers Jeff, I'll take you up on that offer. Why is it , when you have plent of time on your hands you have no baseboards to build on? I've just been given another week of R'n'R !!! Ah well I just suppose it will have to be another Airfix kit or two ;-) Al

    Hi Jeff, Thinking about the 'spindly' type viaduct, you could draw the outline of the sides on paper then build up the frames using plastic angle. To give it a bit of strength you could build the uprights out of brass angle. Would it need to be straight though? Al

    Looking good Jeff. You don't need an excuse to build another one, isn't there a branch line in front of it? P.S. the templates are being produced, in my current mental state I had forgotten about them, sorry. I'll have plenty of time to work on them though as the nice man with the sick notes has told me I can't go back to work for another two weeks!!! :-) Al

    Hi Chard, If you want a viaduct with mixed materials how about Yarm viaduct? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Yarm_Viaduct.jpg The Northern arches where it crosses the River Tees are stone, the rest of it is brick with stone 'details' and a couple of the arches have been strengthened by building new 'inner' arches out of brick. Oh and the guard rails and reinforcing plates are cast iron! Al

    Nice work Chard, the proportions look spot on. There's nothing worse (to my eyes anyway) than a viaduct that's too low, where the railway would probably have built an embankment instead. Al

    Excellent progress, only another few yards to go... Just one slight issue though, I thought you were modelling the S&C, this looks more like East Anglia !!!

    Just come back from a visit to Kirkby Luneside, and it looks even more impressive in the flesh, this layout is big!! A pair of curved viaducts will fit in perfectly ;-) Thanks for the coffee Jeff, and apologies for the spanners I dropped in the works ! Al

    Hi Jeff, Curved viaducts can be built, it just takes a bit of planning, a shedload of plasticard and a lot of time, but the results are worth it... This is one end of our Stockburn layout; 6ft Radius, 18" high, 7' (ish) long (the rest of the layout features a station at the other end and a coliery exchange yard in the middle. It's not often you get a busy double track main line and non-stop shunting at the same time on an exhibition layout! - apologies for the shameless plug !!) Al

    Hi Jeff, i was just wondering, When you put the back scenes in are you planning on curving them in the corners to avoid 'corners in the sky' ? Al

    HI Jeff, Progress indeed since I last looked, would have looked and posted earlier, but there's no wifi in North Tees ! I've located a couple of lengths of SMP track to 'get the ball rolling' which i can drop round if you like. Al

    Hi Jeff, I know a chap not too far away from you who is using Templot to plan his new EM layout and would be more than willing to create a range of templates for you in return for a cuppa and a natter (milk, no sugar thanks!) Did I read correctly that you are ripping out the current layout? What are your plans for that room?

    Hi Jeff, Having seen the scenery on your other layout 'in the flesh' I am looking forward to seeing this one as it develops. The room is looking rather impressive. You've managed to build a layout, and convert a garage in the time it has taken me to sort of come up with an idea for a track plan. I really do need to 'get my finger out' and do something constructive ! Al
