  1. Could anyone confirm which decoder is installed in the Bachmann Factory DCC fitted versions of this loco? It must be a fairly small one as there isn't much room in the cavity within the boiler! Thanks.
  2. I didn’t mean slightly revised from the ex-Mainline tenders. I meant slightly revised from the earlier-Bachmann tenders. My point being that the loco and various tenders have had a fairly complex history and that they have continued to iterate a number of times.
  3. I remember that on Bachman Manor and 43xx models with the 3,500 gal churchward tender issued up to around 2000, the hook was moulded into the tender underframe. However, by around 2003 (lechlade Manor) the hook wasn’t moulder into the tender underframe but was screwed in to a slightly revised under frame. I believe this was so that the Collett Goods (with the moduled hook on the loco) could use the 3500 gal tender, which obviously didn’t have its own hook screwed in for said application. I have examples of both so could post pics if needed. I think this ties in with the first Blue Riband issue of a Collett Goods with 3500 gal ‘Manor’ tender, issued around 2004. Up til then they had all had Collett 3000 gal tenders.
  4. CADs are looking fantastic, let’s hope this project keeps moving along in the way it has done so far. I will certainly be purchasing. Question: I know that the wheel sets and motion of the real things were used as part of the rebuild into Manor class locomotives. However, were the wheel centres similar across the two classes? I’m wondering whether I could buy a second loco and donate the engine chassis to my Bachmann Manor....any early thoughts?
  5. This news is a shame. I’ve just done a very quick search and I notice that both Woodland Scenics and DCC concepts do a foam underlay. Whilst neither have the sleeper indentations so could be suitable to use with the bullhead, I’ve no idea whether it would look quite as realistic as your current solution with the full thickness of the bullhead sleeper being on top of the trackbed. See below - probably one I’ll need to do a PoC on (annoyingly the trackbed only seems to be available in very long rolls!). https://www.dccconcepts.com/product/trackbed-ooho-scale-5mm-31m100ft/
  6. Hi, I know you haven’t got to describing the track laying yet, but I really enjoyed the RM article and it got me thinking about your use of foam ballast. Do you have to buy the matching foam pieces for each of the points as well as the plain track - as I assume there is some kind of indentation in the foam to accept the sleepers? I ask as I want to use the new PECO bullhead track as well as the foam ballast technique, but I’m not sure there is a matching foam for the bullhead track and points sleeper spacing? Thanks.
  7. Fantastic picture. If only the loco body moulding was that of a Manor...the chassis, tender and livery are all otherwise correct!!
  8. Hi, I did actually run the full 7 coach rake behind the manor on my garage layout prior to dismantling it and moving house. The layout had no gradients and the manor only just managed it though. I’ve been very tempted to commission someone to build me a replacement metal chassis to provide the extra power needed. Since then, I have carefully removed the weight from each mk1 coach. I can’t remember the exact figure off the top of my head, but it was adding about 20% of the weight to each coach; following removal the coach was still as heavy as an out of the box Hornby Hawksworth, so I don’t think any running quality will really be impacted. I have also inspected and lubricated each bogie with the close coupling mechanism as they seem to be a source of drag; I also had to open out the bearings on one wheel set.
  9. Great, thank you! Is there a separate pack for the Hornsby AA15 van?
  10. Wow difficult to just look in on these sorts of threads in order to quickly understand the merit of a model. Can anyone summarise please? Is there a supplier of replacement transfers for the Toad shed allocation panels that I could use to renumber and reallocate one of these?
  11. Great news that there’s no duplication then following the last two announcements. And not that long to wait for the Mogul to appear...just need someone to do a Manor now too.
  12. This is excellent news, and not before time that the Mogul in particular is being brought up to modern standards. I know there have been a few not-so-subtle hints made in this thread about other manufacturers potential 2018 announcements but both of these classes have been prime targets for years now and so it’s not a huge surprise. Duplication would be a shame though so let’s hope someone has Manor CADs as a fallback...!
  13. I assume that’s the 3000g Dean tender as per the one attached to the Mainline Dean Goods? Rather than the 2500g version? Did the 2251’s also run in BR days with the 3500g tenders as per the one attached to the Dukedog and the Manor? If so, Bachman using the tender from the Dukedog, with the DCC socket in the tender and the precious design full weight in the boiler, would be a good future option.
  14. Ah I thought it might be - I asked as I have done the same job on my 2251! Looks great to me, superb weathering job.
  15. Really nice set of 0-6-0s there, lovely weathering. Which tender is it that you have on the left there? Is it a Bachman ‘Manor’ tender or is it one from the Hornby Dean Goods?
  16. The Dean Goods Tender is somewhat smaller than the one on the Dukedog. I believe this might affect which sound decoder it will take.... WEB Dean goods 8.jpg WEB Dean goods 9.jpg Finally, out on the line doing what it was designed to do..... WEB Dean Goods 10.jpg Hi Coach, Would the Dean 3000g tender like the one behind Bachmann city of Truro be accurate for a wider number of dean goods running in the BR era? They are due to release the Collett goods with said tender - unfortunately in GWR green rather than BR black though! Might make a good model if resprayed in BR black?
  17. What is the colour of the BR grey version like in the flesh? It looks a bit too light on the pictures, but hard to tell as a true guide. Would be interested to know how they compare to Bachmann BR grey wagons. Thanks.
  18. Excellent, thanks both. That's my decision made then! And I can use my existing code 100 flexi track and streamline point work in the storage yards, which is even better.
  19. I'm new to this thread and am looking to source some 00 gauge track for my next layout project. Having been away from building for a couple of years, it sounds like Peco bullhead could be just what I'm after, but I've only recently heard about it and didn't know that it was already available. I must admit it's difficult to get a simple summary from this thread, so if anyone is able to link to or re-confirm the key details that would be helpful. I guess there aren't any matching points yet? How does it compare with DCC concepts track? Thanks
  20. Thanks - is that both LH brakes and LH compos in the minority, do you know?
  21. Does anyone know how many of each hand of the brakes and composites were built? Trying to understand rough numbers of them but seem to be only spotting one of the hands in the couple of books I've looked through. That's RH...!
  22. I agree...I did the same! I didn't realise (but am very pleased) that Hornby would be ready to turn around the maroon versions so soon. Two maroon will be joining my three blood and custard versions tomorrow - I wonder whether to keep all three of the latter or to move some on. Mixed livery, mixed coach-type rakes do make for great WR- looking trains though. On my Cambrian based layout, I'm thinking Dukedog - marroon Collett, B&C Hawksworth, B&C Collett, maroon Hawksworth...
  23. Does anyone have an H1410 5819 model? If so, could you please confirm the shed plate on the smokebox door? I can't quite get my head around it but the colour livery layout on the hattons website shows a shed code of 89C, but the matrix on the very first page says it's from another shed. I wonder which one is correct?
  24. Does anyone know where I can find that table released early in this project showing the shed codes and applicable time period of each livery in service? Was a great resource.
