Progress yes, in the process of having the tracks and points all wired in, a date is in the diary. Hopefully trains running next month and the layout complete by Christmas.

Looks nice Leon - you've built up a good collection of locos there!
Rich
Thanks Rich,
A few got sound now, Need to get the 60 out of that Blue and into a sector. Shame I don't have the layout to run them on yet, they where starting to get a few knocks so hopefully the cabinet will look after them.

Hi Stephen,
Happy New Year all.
Not yet, still looking to start it to be honest. Have bought a nice display cabinet to show the locos that don't yet have a layout to run on.... Every week I say I will go into the attic and every week something comes up......
Hopefully soon....

Once upon a time, the South Wales IEP Depot was proposed for Tidal Sidings, but then moved to Maliphant, Swansea - so that's one job ruled out.
Could it be in advance of the next stage of the A4232 extension toward Eastern Avenue ?
.
Well they aren't intended for the new Cardiff 'bus station that is being conceived by elves, designed by fairies, built by goblins and will be used by unicorns drawing crystal coaches.
Transport improvements in Cardiff ?
How silly of me.
Ah yes Brian,
It is just off the round about as the track comes under the bridge from the Docks. Could be a retaining wall ? I will grab a picture later of where they are.
-
Well,
These did not go far at all, The blocks are being unloaded a few hundred meters from where loaded, They are being used within Tidal sidings just as the track enters from the docks, not sure why but they are being laid alongside the track. I will see if I can get a clear picture.

This is unlikely to be a regular flow, since the demand for the blocks will vary in time and place depending on what work is happening. And since the railway doesn't really handle one-off revenue consignments these days my guess would be an engineering train for some Network Rail site where it's most practical to bring them in by train. Or could it be that the blocks used around Cardiff were only hired, from the manufacturer, and are now being returned?[/quote
Hi Edwin,
Yes I agree, maybe not regular.
However they are not being returned as I watched them being loaded from the site not being unloaded.
-
The wagons are still sat on the line from the dock into Tidal sidings at 1600 today. No loco attached now.
-
Thanks for that, Leon; I wasn't aware of a concrete-product manufacturer in the docks. I wonder if they'll do them in a selection of different colours?
Haaa haaaa. I can ask them when I’m passing...lol
-
These are not being returned, they are produced at castle concrete on the docks. I have used some at my site. We have them to separate bays with product in. They do indeed work like Lego.
These must be off to a project somewhere.

No; it isn't. It does breach Network Rail's own safety guidance and also the law.
I would ask the OP to remove the images so that he does not leave himself at risk of action.
I am not against drone footage; I fly one too but anything published on here must not be in breach of the law, codes or any necessary private restrictions.
Hi Andy,
Can you remove the post then or let me know how. I don' t want to cause any arguments/issues. Thanks
-
Hi,
Does anyone know how to remove the post?
Although I have read the CAA guidelines and kept well over 50 meters away from the railway or any persons.
Thanks for the Network Rail info Redkite

Hi all,
A short video, still new to this sorry so bare with me.
Thanks

Hi all,
Got some aerial shots of Cardiff's Tidal sidings if anyone is interested, taken from a drone, still a novice sorry. Hopefully as time goes on I can get some interesting shots. Lots of interference from the lighting towers and local industry, At one point I wasn't too sure who was controlling the Celsa 08, me or the operator...

Had an hour so on the layout this evening, small progress on cutting in the last bit of track work, trains can now run from end to end, fiddle yard to fiddle yard. Next job is to drill the holes for the point motors and dropper wires, then the electrics can begin.
Also had a little run of the two new sound fitted 56's. They sound ok, not as powerful as the 37's though.
Does anyone know where the best place is for replacement Hornby Class 56 buffers ? Thanks

Hi all,
3rd class 56 arrived over the weekend, Can anyone guess correct what it was before I post an update later this evening?
-
Morning Ian,
Looking fantastic, very much enjoying.
-
The two class 56's will bring the heavyweight fleet up to 3 Class 56 and 2 Class 60's
The 3rd Class 56 with be another local to the area. Both new 56's are sound fitted. Lovely sounds from them....

Can anyone recommend some signals for the layout ? I need some three aspect as per suggested earlier.
I did look at Absolute signals but they come in at an eye watering £60-£75 each ! Ouch.....
