  1. The Maidstone and District bus used to go through our village from Maidstoneon its way to Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppy - This was the last bus type and livery I remember, late 70's/early 80's http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Bus-Slide-MAIDSTONE-DISTRICT-NBC-BCD-806L-3500-/262939368780?hash=item3d38685d4c:g:MPkAAOSwVm5Y803f
  2. Found this photo of what appears to be an A and B in the same rake http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrs2308.htm
  3. Does anyone know if mixed rakes of Esso B and TTA tank wagons ever operated? And if so, over what years? I have a lovely set of a dozen TTA's already but really couldn't stretch to another new rake of B's, as much as I like them.
  4. Just found another great image of a Western Region chocolate & cream Freighlifter at work that I haven't seen posted on this thread before. A London depot I presume by the Scarab trailers? https://www.flickr.com/photos/62532775@N03/8250388563
  5. I've wanted this model to come along for so long and it looks fantastic
  6. I have seen this photo of South Lambeth from the cover of British Railway Wagons and always presumed the Freightlifter was maroon and cream but perhaps this one is brown and cream? hard to tell http://www.amazon.co.uk/British-Railway-Wagons-Their-Loading/dp/B00PH7FT4S
  7. Really pleased to see that Oxford are going to produce a Shelvoke & Drewry Freightlifter but in its first issue I notice it is in Western Region chocolate and cream I just wondered, how widespread would this livery have been for this vehicle and for what period? And might it have appeared in this livery in any of the Western Region goods depots in London? http://www.oxforddiecast.co.uk/eras/1_76_1950_Co_Future.htm
  8. I've enjoyed so many of your posts that I'm just really chuffed that you liked this one and that it was new to you! Keep up the great work.
  9. I don't know if this has been posted before but just came across this wonderfully evocative photo of freightliner terminal in Glasgow in late sixties http://www.eastbank.org.uk/images/Glasgow/UK0336.jpg
  10. There is a great photo in Ian Allan's Railway Owned Commercial Vehicles of a row of Scarabs being repaired over a special inspection pit at King's Cross in 1957. It has made me think this kind of facility might make a great subject for a model to show off a whole range of railway vehicles, being repaired, re-painted etc. But apart from this one photo does anyone have any other images or details of repair shops of facilities where a range of vehicles might have been worked on?
  11. In answer to your last question - I really would urge you not to move this to the Road Vehicles thread. Nothing against the Road Vehicle Group but I would suggest that this section draws in a wider audience, and the more people viewing and participating the better. You never know where obscure gems might come from.
  12. Thank you Bernard and fat Controller (and Merf) - I've learnt a lot today!
  13. Wooah! - Now this photo has completely thrown me for different reasons! I thought that these types of containers and crane only came in with Freightliner around 65/66. Can you shed any light on this subject too?
  14. This raises some of the confusion I have around liveries of this period. I've also heard "sand" as well as stone mentioned - is that the grey or the yellow of this period? I come from a printing background, and if there are also different yellows - 1963 different from later yellow? - It would be great if there was some objective measure - such as the nearest Pantone or CMYK split as a guide.
  15. Thanks Merf - that's great. Do you also happen to know when the grey coloured scarabs came in with the rail freight lettering, and was this just a short-lived livery?
  16. This is my favourite thread and I follow it with great interest. Mentioning that Scarabs were delivered in yellow in 1963 reminds me that I still don't have a really clear idea of exactly what liveries were introduced when on BR's various road vehicles. I would love to see a definitive, illustrated list, with dates (if that is at all possible?)
