I have been checking out info on where the Cawoods containers went to in Ireland and as far as I can gather they were mainly shipped from Ellesmere Port to Northern Ireland where Cawoods were based. As NIR had given up on internal freight traffic earlier it is extremely unlikely that any containers were transported by rail or into the Republic ports.

I've had a reply from a contact in Dublin:
Hi Ernie
I remember the yellow Cawoods 20ft containers well, but the traffic only ran for a short period, the coal came in thru Greenore Port, then road to Barrack St Dundalk, then by rail to Arklow, I didn't manage to get decent photos, in was in year 1991.Ernie

There's remarkably little in the way of photographic evidence of the Cawoods containers to the west of the Irish Sea. Some sources suggest they landed the containers at Drogheda or Dundalk, neither a destination of choice of the "gricer about town" back in the mid 80's, early 90's. Still scouring obscure photos of container yards of the era in the hope of seeing one, even better if @Irishswissernie can save me a headache!

I have been digging through the files but nothing on the Irish side has turned up so far. As far as I can remember the Cawoods traffic from Lynemouth etc only ran for a few years in the early/mid 1980's. Prior to that the flows originated 'darn south' somewhere EDIT. found some views at Onllwyn South Wales.. I have found some interesting views of wagons on the 'Enterprise' trains through Carlisle. I have several views of complete Trainloads on the Settle & Carlisle of British Fuel containers but wonder if they were actually carrying gypsum for Kirby Thore prior to re-livery or perhaps the scottish coal flows were organised into train loads after the demise of the enterprise network.

I've checked the files and added 3 more views covering coal at the distillery and also one view at the exchange siding with a blue liveried grain wagon.
The link below is the first view of the exchange siding and if you click on the rest of the distillery views are next.

At Balmenach distillery further up the Speyside branch it appears they moved barrels internally by rail to a barrel store , see this interesting facility!

In the album there are several views of the distinctive blue grain wagons in June 1967 at Knockando (Balmenach) . It is possible that as these mainly came north in block trains, John Boyes the photographer wasn't around when grain was being delivered to Dailuaine or the Company's other distillery at Carron station.
I will have a dig in the files and see if the other scans I have show anything new!

Bridge over a busy road on your layout but the track goes nowhere?

Just noticed this one of St Moritz on the RhB. The road was built later than the headshunt but the reason the headshunt is that long is that through coach sets from the RhB in Chur to Tirano on the Berninabahn had to be shunted from the RhB line top right to the Berninabahn bottom right (Not all the through sets/trains went via the Samedan to Pontressina branch)

An interesting thread, thanks for the comments about my Flickr site, its proving quite popular this year with hits approaching 7 million and a total to date of over 26 million since inception.
My files are as usual in a mess but I think the 14 images just uploaded to Flickr of Garelochhead are new to the site. Link to photostream is https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/?
I will insert them into the album asap https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/albums/72157685023339563
Dates are from the early 80's to 1987.

Yes they were Highland Railway, however after the Grouping Ex Caledonian Railway locomotives arrived in some numbers on the ex Highland lines as the older Highland classes were withdrawn and the LMS attempted a degree of standardisation. EX HR and particularly ex G&SWR locomotive classes were hard hit. The Peter Drummond designed HR locos were in some cases rebuilt with CR style boilers.
The Class 812 locos could be seen on the Farther North line into the late 1950's; One on my Flickr site 57585 at Wick with another ex Caledonian Pickersgill 4-4-0 behind it.

17.95 is quite steep for a paperback book on a 3 mile branch line?
Got mine off E Bay from wordery £11-98 post free Its an Oakwood Title (Oakwoods now part of Stenlake), buts its on decent paper unlike the Stenlake publications. The ca 1929 aerial photo on page 80 is from a glass negative I acquired and have passed on to the Armstrong Trust.

been on there and can't find the likes of the above photos of Hitchin?
Am I in the right place?
Sorry Jeff, I posted on here on 26 June that I was only going to upload on here images that were not on my Flickr site, therefore there are no English albums south of the Yorkshire North Riding (apart from GCR 2018 winter gala) & Cumbria.

I spoke to Dave this morning; he is on the mend and will resume posting tomorrow.
Here are my final 4:
Many thanks for your kind comments and observations over the past week; as I said this morning my Flickr site takes up most of my time and I have a far bigger pool of material to play with besides my own photos etc covering Scotland, Ireland and Northern England which I have refrained from putting on here.
Over to you Dave,

I have to say I will miss these shots, especially the steam.
I don't suppose you would consider having a thread of your own?
My main internet site is on Flickr and takes up most of my time with some 14000 + images and approx 3.4 million hits so far this year. I also have permission to use views from the Armstrong Railway Photographic Trust on the Flickr site. Click on the link below and then on one of the Album icons.
