  1. Get yourself a good quality isopon filler, loads of patience and enjoy , it will be a challenge and google is a great source of seeing what they ought to look like.... I seem to recall that cab moulding is quite good, but the body questionable, it may test your patience and common sense is always the override to any MTK paperwork!

  2. As an 00 gauge modeller on the sidelines, and having followed 0 gauge with an element of envy, its a shame that jltrt has gone down as I'm sure PW must be given credit for bringing an up to date range of kits, and encouraging new recruits into 0 gauge.

  3. Hi Clive..knowing your joy with all things class 309.. I thought I would share with you my slightly less ambitious model so far, all being down to keeping costs down, it needs some additional boxes on the power/ driving unit and front screens need to be slightly smaller and black lined.

The base coaches are replica (Manufactured by Bachmann some years back I guess) I found a set of 4 at a toy fair by pure luck as I needed commonwealth bogies and was hoping to avoid a Hornby/replica or Bachmann combo.

The cabs came off flea bay nicely done in resin..for some odd reason the chap making them sold them singly rather than in pairs, but they were considerably cheaper than the classy product from Pete Harvey .

The power unit is a tenshido spud ,my mate mr dremel helped in trimming off the axle ends so that I could marry it up to a replica bogie frame, and probably the more expensive part of the model was the marklin pantograph.

The cab glazing is my old favourite 1.5mm perspect sheet.post-5809-0-29964100-1518468852_thumb.jpgpost-5809-0-65254500-1518468872_thumb.jpg

  4. Thanks all for the 81 discussion and apologies to others if the original thread has been side tracked,I agree that the trix/lillput was slightly ahead of its time in respect of the bogie mouldings and the details on the wheels, and glazing, and remains a good looking model.

  5. Colin, thank you for sharing a brilliant time capsule, great modelling inspiration I was never aware of the 123/124 combinations until now, and interesting to see the harwich Manchester trains in their twilight years before I believe the service ran via the north London line and wcml to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and then died thanks to budget airlines and the expansion of stanstead airport.
