The layout is set up being looked over and a bit of scenic repair work being carried out.
It’s going to be a busy March for the layout.
First weekend it’s at the Preston show followed by Mountsorrel in Leicestershire the week after.
A weeks break then the MIGO show at Crewe and with Easter the week after we’re at York with the layout.
Looking forward to all the above shows and hope to meet some of you perhaps at one of them.
Thanks Steve.

Hello Mark
The stone footbridge was painted using enamel paints with the colour hues of light brown picking out individual stones in the 3 or 4 light Browns I had.
Weathering wise a rail match weathered black was was washed on and then Phoenix weathered wood if I remember correctly was dabbed on here and there using a bit of sponge so it stayed only on the raised surfaces.
Have a practice on a scrap peice of stone plasticard to get the technique of dabbing as you don’t need to press on to hard. I sealed it all with railmatch Matt varnish after.
Hope this helps.
Steve.

Just to say a big big thank you to the organizers and volunteers who made the show possible over the years at the NEC
I was at the first one there as a visitor and thought I’d love to exhibit here one day. I did in 1998 and have done so on a few other occasions. Even winning a trophy for best N gauge layout one year.
So glad to to exhibit at the show last November.
Again well done and thank you all for the time and effort you all put in to bring us a show each year.
A friend of mine used to say going to the Warley show was like stepping into the Railway Modeller magazine. It was all there in front of you.
Steve.

Conversion into a roundy roundy layout has started.
The track off the fiddle yard was removed along with the points and point motors for reuse.
I had to move the CDU and some connections.
Then it was basically saw the end of the fiddle yard off.
Theres no going back now.
Next job is to open up the other end of the layout using my trusty multi tool.
I spent some time Friday planning on what I intend to do.
Its looking like I’ll get a few extra trains and the overall size of the layout should be about 6x2 feet.
Ive plans for the board for the curve on the shopping centre end to be detachable for transporting purposes.
Thanks Steve.

Farmers Drove is featured in the latest issue of Modelrail.
The article and having the photographs taken were one of the last things I did before it got sold on.
I know Neal has bookings for the layout.
Thanks Steve.

This weekend sees the layout at the NEC Warley show.
I always enjoy the show as a visitor and even more as an exhibitor.
Ive exhibited there about 10 times with mainly N gauge layouts so this will be the first time with an O gauge layout.
Theres a few new items of rolling stock for use on the layout over the weekend and hopefully it’ll all work for us.
Hope to see some of you and enjoy the show if your going.
Thanks Steve

I have plans to make Ryecroft Arena into a roundy roundy layout.
The actual layouts scenic section won’t be touched but the two platforms at the front are going to be made into through roads. With the other platform at the back remaining as a bay.
My idea is to fasten the fiddle Yard to the layout and have a fiddle Yard similar to my Lymebrook Yard fiddle yard which are sidings off a loop and trains reverse in and out.
It should also allow more trains to run and one or two maybe loco hauled.
I definitely want to run the voyager as well.
Thinking overall length shouldn’t be much more than what it is now. Obviously the width will increase but when I’ve exhibited it it has been on a 2ft wide table anyway. The current layout is 10 inches wide.
Looking forward to getting started on the modification as I now think it’ll make the layout a lot better.

Yes it’s wider than a foot
but my thinking is put the two 1 ft wide boards side by side and make a sector plate to go on the end.
The layout I am doing is 7 feet long and at its widest point which is the scenic sector is 20 inches.
Its a parcels platform and locos berth there as well.

After noticing that Hillport Goods has been mentioned on this thread and the fact that your looking at small layouts.
Heres another idea which is the current layout I am working on
it’s based on parcels platform at a large station which is represented by the back platform in the pic.
The parcels platform holds up to two BG length coaches in each platform. Also doubles up as a loco holding siding.
Theres no points and a two road sector plate just under the bridge

Hopefully I'll get to see the layout at Shenfield, I'm exhibiting there for the first time myself, I'll have to get an Operator at lunch sign so I can come and have a look. 😉
You’ll see the layout at Shenfield Steve
your opposite us. As we set up earlier.

Hello all it’s been a while since I have put anything on here.
A blatant nod that the layout is going to be in Railway Modeller June issue as the next outing for the layout will be the DEMU Showcase event.
Other shows this year for the layout are the Mid Essex show in September at Shenfield and also the Stafford model railway club show, last show of the year for the layout is Warley at the NEC.
Ive been working on stock but not necessarily for Hillport as there’s another layout on the way.
I’ve also been giving my railfreight 31 a run on Hillport.
Thanks Steve
