  1. Looks like my next colour scheme. That'll get a few tongues wagging lol. Brian
  2. Hi. Brilliant pictures there, do you have anymore or any i can use for the APT display ? Cheers Brian
  3. It now has "clothes" has Kit would say lol. Going right to the wire to finish it which will be around 7.30am Thursday morning !
  4. Hi Jamie. Even if we could join it to the other set, i wouldn't do it as it would mess my plans up at opening it all up to the public next year, it was never going to be our intentions to join it back with it even if we had room. It will be opened up inside to show traction motors, tilt pack, control cubicles etc with descriptions on each one, also it won't be where it is now but on the "exhibition " rd so it gives a wider area for pictures as it is at the moment your restricted for getting an end shot from no2 end as it's against the main hall. Cheers.
  5. Hi all This is the power car as it is now, painting should be done on Monday with logos going on either same day or before Thursday.
  6. Hi Jamie. No pay unfortunately, it's all voluntary work done by myself, however a group we call the wednesday gang which are our older volunteers, painted the bogies for me as it was coming to close for me to get it finished by August 2nd. So far it's took in litre wise in paint, 7.5 litres of white undercoat, 5 litres dark grey undercoat, 5 litres of dark grey gloss ( Dulux weathershield night jewels 2 ) 7.5 litres light grey ( weathershield Salisbury stones 3), 2.5 litres of red ( hot paprika 4 ) 2.5 litres gloss white, 2.5 litres of gloss yellow, this was used from Williamsons that was for the class 87. Still to get if i have time is light blue for the cardan shaft, orange, red etc. Brian
  7. Hi all. Here's a picture of the power car as it is at the moment. This is one side only, the i've yet to do and also it will need another coat at least. Cheers.
  8. Hi all. Quick update on the power car. This is what it looks like now, by end of the week the light grey will be on and the white stripe aswell, followed by the other end and door painted. This then leaves for next week the dark grey and red stripe to do follwed by the bogies and small details. Brian
  9. Hi all. If anyone wants any of these now's your last chance for quite a while, i won't be having anymore printed in the foreseeable future. Pm me if your interested, all are full size and correct in every detail.. Cheers
  10. Hi all.Getting there, but christ it was that hot i couldn't touch the bodywork as it burn't my hand, had to put a glove on ! The undercoat was a 16 - 24 hr drying time, but was dried in 15 mins ! lol. I also did my version of a Banksy
  11. Hi all. Bit of a long shot is this, but i'm after any people who worked on the APT-P, or maybe APT - E project. I'm in the final stages of organising an event in August to celebrate the APT's 30th anniversary of preservation and i'm after as many of the original team, whether it be builders, designers, commissioning, testing, etc to please contact as me to see if they're interested in coming along on any of the 4 days. The event runs from the 2nd to the 5th August, the best days to appear, so to speak, would be Saturday or Sunday, (4th -5th ). So over to you lot and pm me on here. Cheers all. Brian.
  12. Hi Jamie. Basically the yellow is 1st class, white 2nd & red the dining car. It reads from the top, smoker, non smoker, buffet car (smoker ) ,1st class non smoker, 1st class smoker then power car and the same the other side. I have a better version of it but it won't let me upload because of the type of file it is. Yes the power car is now in primer ready for it's 1st lot of undercoat next week....Hooray lol Brian
  13. Hi Jamie. Have a look at this layout plan, this was how they were originally set for smoking and non smoking. 99% of the "no smoking" stickers were put in it when the no smoking inside regs came out a few years back
  14. Hi Jamie. The other coaches don't have them, just the power cars, there isn't anything on them. Cheers. Brian
  15. Hi all. Here's the reprinted Data panel, "danger gap may close ", BCF fire, Cardiac pacemaker, A/B side vinyls i have had done, all taken from the power car. Brian
  16. Hi Jamie. Yes the way it's set out is that opposite a door is a toilet or store cupboard and a door next to that...if you what i mean. Every coach as 2 doors diagonally from each other except the TGF that has 2 large doors by the guards compartment for loading and unloading items and also for disabled access and 1 normal door, making a total of 3 doors for a TGF. Basically is set out from 003 - 006, cab door, door, toilet, door, toilet, large doors (guards area ), power car, large door (guards area), door, toilet, cab door. There are in total 5 toilets, 2 store cupboards and another store/staff room by the kitchen area. Hope that makes sense. Brian
  17. Hi Jamie. Just over half of the one side is primered, the other side nothing at all. It's a big job with a 3" brush but the best way as you can get in all the awkward bits. It will need some light filling and sanding in a few places, then 2 coats of undercoat followed by 2 coats of gloss and maybe varnished after. Brian
  18. Hi all. Here's a couple of pics from today on how it's going on the "new" power car. Also took a pic of the final drive gear box cover, i think it looks great i'll probably paint these back into the blue again and finally if you ever want to make a power car door i now have the drawing number....just need the drawings now lol. Brian
  19. Hi. Who is that standing in the 1st class coach ?, only it looks like someone i knew only he didn't join the centre till 2007.
  20. Hi all. Just an update to where i am now with the power car restoration. All the main heavy sanding is now done, there will be bits more to do once the primer goes on, but only on bare metal not the whole body as this just isn't feasible to do both in time and cost, with a couple of coats of undercoat and gloss it will protect it anyways. The ID tags are still attached to the bogies, which is good as those usually go missing. When i was jet washing one side, i did the bogies and surprisingly some parts came out quite well, these will be done again to bring out the detail of the gear box, friction brake adjuster etc, then the bogies will be painted. The end doors will be painted yellow like the other power making it stand out more. Brian
  21. Hi Jamie. Those tanks are air tanks and also there is a tank containing what i assume is Glycol ( out of shot near the door ), i found this out when i opened the panel outside and pressed the outlet valve and a load of red liquid came shooting out lol, did the same on the new power car, same type of panel, same fitting and same liquid, this had " Glycol" painted on the panel. The hazard tape is to cover a transformer there which hasn't got a case, just the copper windings and gubbins.. Also the hob in the cab went years ago, and if you look on the desk back in 2010 the horn " High/ Low" panel is missing...that got pinched aswell. The one in there now is from 006 cab, araldited down with a small rivet making sure that one don't go anywhere. Brian
  22. Hi Jamie. Yes there would of been two usually lit but did vary.I never even noticed the bulb had gone as it's usually lit up. lol Brian
  23. Hi all. This is what the guards compartment looked like, sorry for the mess but this is tidy compared to what i inherited lol. There where large racks fastened to the ceiling and the floor that could be adjusted, these i still have behind the display boards. There was an area in the DTS by the aux room door that was used as a luggage area, not hard to spot now as most seats have been moved around. The 1st class seats are indeed wider. Next time your down Jamie i will show you what i mean about the window layout in the buffet car, the last 4 th window is the stoarge/switch room then the 2 blank spaces where the displays are, then the shaded out windows above the sinks. Brian
