  1. Hi Steve How can I contact you? Your contact page says it is being upgraded. GTi
  2. Everything runs through Dewsbury if it has a 'chip'.
  3. Dewsbury layout dismantled and ready to go.......... Only hope we can remember how to put it together again!
  4. The venue is close enough to walk from either of the Wakefield stations. The alternative may be to take a taxi - it's not far so should not be too expensive. Ask for Qwegs!
  5. Torper Sorry you are not attending Scalefour North this year as it looks to be a cracking show (have to say that because we are taking our Dewsbury layout). However for Expo, train to Wakefield Westgate and then 110 bus (destination Kettlethorpe or Hall Green) from Wakefield Bus Station, journey time around 15 mins. The 110 bus is a Leeds to Kettlethorpe or Hall Green service and runs every 10 mins on Saturdays, slightly fewer buses per hour on Sundays.
  6. See you all in the Star Inn,Sandal (Morton/Collins Brewery) across the road from the venue. All except 5050 of course who doesn't frequent Public Houses.
  7. Woodsville, stand number 6, is packed and ready to go. All forms signed and sent off, High Vis vests organised. Really looking forwards to an excellent weekend playing trains. Please come and say hello to 5050 and me and the rest of the team. GTi
  8. Lyonesse Sorry - the 3F was sold on many years ago to someone in Derby if my memory serves. GTi
  9. Motive Power Developments was created by a friend of mine when he left the employment of George Allen, of etched footbridge fame. Another friend was to build the first kit and I was to illustrate the instructions. As it turned out I had difficulty with the isometric projections (I was using the wrong Rotring ellipse template) and so I built the first loco and my friend did the illustrations! As the three of us were all Protofour Society members the 3F was built rigid with Studiolith wheels, MW 5 pole motor and Romford gears. Pickup was from both loco and tender wheels. The engine was painted in LMS livery and professionally photographed for the adverts in the model railway press of the day. This was my first etched brass kit and I seem to remember it went together without any hitches. The engine went on to operate on several early P4 layouts in West Yorkshire. GTi
  10. Thanks for all the comments guy's and a special thanks to highpeak for the links, especially the notes on B&M diesels. We only had the two RS2's available when we took the photo although the full roster will be present at the Wakefield exhibition.
  11. Allegheny1600 - Jacques is correct ! The houses are City Classics and came as a three pack. I found them very satisfying to build but I passed them over to Bob for painting. We have some trees on order from our local tree builder and intend to 'plant' some in that corner, although we have yet to decide the final arrangement.
  12. I think the time may be right to explain a little of the concept behind this layout. Our colleague Bob has an excellent collection of Boston and Maine stock and in one of those 'moments of madness' I suggested that it would be a good idea to build an exhibition layout so that we could give it a run. Surprisingly he thought this was a good idea and Woodsville was born. So the brief was for a layout that would (hopefully) be quick and easy to erect and dismantle, compact to transport and store and yet offer some operational interest to entertain the public and prevent us being bored. The size of the layout was determined so that it could be erected in our garage for test running etc, and that is where the photographs have been taken so far, but the layout frontage can also be erected in the operating well of our Dewsbury P4/S4 layout in the railway room (just visible through the door in the photographs) for construction. Added to this we accepted a couple of exhibition invitations (Halifax and Wakefield) this year. So far we are on programme to meet the deadlines but the timescales have meant that little or no time has been available for lengthy research. Paul has carried out most of the research for the buildings, although some compromises have had to be made due to space constraints. My research has been confined mainly to the Jim Shaughnessy article in the Spring 2014 Classic Trains and the switch stands have been 'guesstimated' from the excellent photographs in the article. So we certainly cannot claim our 'Woodsville' is an accurate model of Woodsville N.H; we have taken liberties with the track layout and introduced industries for operational interest, but we hope we will have captured a feel of the place and aim to have a good time exhibiting it.
  13. Geoff (GTi) has been busy making a load of switchstands for the pointwork, using some of the photos we have for inspiration. The bodies are turned from brass rod with wire shafts and handles and thin sheet brass targets which will be painted either Red or Yellow depending on whether they are on the main or in the yard. The bases are various thicknesses of styrene. Please also note that they are non-working. They are also now painted - photos to follow!
