No Locomotion in Sainsbury's, Northampton today, but two tatty diesels.

Would this be 1st March 1979, with KGV backing to Paddington to take the 125 anniversary special to Didcot?Morning all,
Clearly a need to reinforce sanity in railway pictures today so here is a proper engine - note its shiny finish clearly intended as a future hint to Hornby and the NRM (n.b. safety note - it was taken on my patch with the usual precautions of letting the panel know not to let anything come towards me in case it got in the picture, the steam was less helpful).
I was in the scrum on platform 1 with my cine camera and later in the 'vee' at OOC junction waiting for the aborted return leg.

I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.Traddles looks bemused and that poor bloke on the platform has turned grey all over....probably shock.

Would the total lack of colour indicate some sort of tax official?
Isn't it a T1000 model Terminator in the process of morphing into the form of Dr Richard Beeching for an evil, future plan?No it's a man in a grey suit who has come for a interview.

Do you still want one?
Yes please.
-
Does anyone have a spare GBL County that they would like to sell please?
-
Daughter in law informs me that she was successful and I have a second example waiting for me. This one will be 1920s livery with no smoke deflectors. Don't what I'll call it yet. Perhaps Rodney.
Are you sure it's not called Dave?

Still no sign at Sainsburys in Wellingborough.
Looks like they might have stopped stocking after the County no show as well.
-
Hope I have better luck finding these two as our local Sainsburys didn't have any Counties. The Ivatt tank is posted on the GBL as the next issue after the 'Nelson'.
The first time it hasn't had any GBL models and everywhere else local stopped months ago!
-
Not in Northern Ireland as far as I know....
Thanks Nelson - I suspect it's even less likely south of the border!
-
Does anyone know whether GBL are selling in Ireland?
I will be over there when the 'County' comes out.
-
Er, aren't Blackpool Sands in Lancashire ( near Blackpool ) ?
No. That's Dartmouth sands you're thinking of.
-
Looks odd with that top water feed from the cab, the spot light on top of the smokebox and the diesel extension to the bunker.
Those are the new mainline running requirements!

Great to see 4144 in the sunshine at the front of the engine shed this afternoon. The finish on the side tanks indicates she will look magnificent when finished.

Thanks, but take care of yourself as the top priority.Hi Nick,
Don't panic you didn't miss it.
I've been going through another period of poor health recently and have mostly only been able to come on RMWeb from tablet or laptop in the lounge not being able to spend time in my workshop.
I got my son to photograph my Resistance Soldering Unit in the workshop using his phone for me to post in another thread.
I hope to get back to several jobs in a day or so and the 'King' cab window is near the top of the list - I had a request from a Member about my BR Standard 'Caprotti' class 5 that appeared in the background to one of the 'King' photos so that's the first job, but the 'King' cab wont be far behind.
Sorry about the delay but I'll get there in the end.
Regards

Hi WeatheringMan
Did you post your fix for the GBL King cab windows?
I seem to have missed it.

Hi All,
I am trying to find out the types of coaches that would have been in use on suburban services, in the Reading to Paddington area, behind locos such as a .large Prairie. Would it have been non-corridor stock, or would there have been rakes of corridor stock used as well? Also, an idea of typical train lengths.
Any information would be helpful, and if diagram numbers are to hand as well, these would be most useful too.
Thanks very much.
Regards,
Mark
I have copies of a few of the London division local coach working books. These detail the formations of stopping trains by class of coach (ie. third, van third, composite, etc) and whether gangwayed or not. If you have a specific time period in mind let me know and I may be able to assist.

Of course you do realise I have no rolling stock for either Edwardian or 1927 periods. Most of my coaches are for 30 years later now.
You don't need any rolling stock for a steam railmotor.

Two Kings bought at Sainsbury's, Wellingborough, this morning. Not too bad apart from bent handbrake handles on both tenders and connecting rods detatched from wheels on one - but did push back into place. Reversing lever doesn't quite reach the ' box' in front of the cab. (Oh, and wrong colour for a GWR loco!!)Anyone seen a 'King' yet?
I wonder if my subscription will arrive today...
Rivet detail on cab roof so, I presume, Hornby rather than Lima?

Issue 21 - a blue King!

They did manage a couple of genuine Penzance and Paddington clips I haven't seen before.
