  1. Morning all,

Clearly a need to reinforce sanity in railway pictures today so here is a proper engine - note its shiny finish clearly intended as a future hint to Hornby and the NRM  (n.b. safety note - it was taken on my patch with the usual precautions of letting the panel know not to let anything come towards me in case it got in the picture, the steam was less helpful).

Would this be 1st March 1979, with KGV backing to Paddington to take the 125 anniversary special to Didcot?

I was in the scrum on platform 1 with my cine camera and later in the 'vee' at OOC junction waiting for the aborted return leg.

  2. The Ivatt tank is posted on the GBL as the next issue after the 'Nelson'.

Hope I have better luck finding these two as our local Sainsburys didn't have any Counties.

The first time it hasn't had any GBL models and everywhere else local stopped months ago!

  3. Hi Nick,

Don't panic you didn't miss it.

I've been going through another period of poor health recently and have mostly only been able to come on RMWeb from tablet or laptop in the lounge not being able to spend time in my workshop.

I got my son to photograph my Resistance Soldering Unit in the workshop using his phone for me to post in another thread.

I hope to get back to several jobs in a day or so and the 'King' cab window is near the top of the list - I had a request from a Member about my BR Standard 'Caprotti' class 5 that appeared in the background to one of the 'King' photos so that's the first job,  but the 'King' cab wont be far behind.

Sorry about the delay but I'll get there in the end.

    Regards

Thanks, but take care of yourself as the top priority.

    Regards,

    Nick

  4. Hi All,

I am trying to find out the types of coaches that would have been in use on suburban services, in the Reading to Paddington area, behind locos such as a .large Prairie. Would it have been non-corridor stock, or would there have been rakes of corridor stock used as well? Also, an idea of typical train lengths.

Any information would be helpful, and if diagram numbers are to hand as well, these would be most useful too.

    Thanks very much.

    Regards,

    Mark

I have copies of a few of the London division local coach working books. These detail the formations of stopping trains by class of coach (ie. third, van third, composite, etc) and whether gangwayed or not. If you have a specific time period in mind let me know and I may be able to assist.

  5. Anyone seen a 'King' yet?

I wonder if my subscription will arrive today...

Two Kings bought at Sainsbury's, Wellingborough, this morning. Not too bad apart from bent handbrake handles on both tenders and connecting rods detatched from wheels on one - but did push back into place. Reversing lever doesn't quite reach the ' box' in front of the cab. (Oh, and wrong colour for a GWR loco!!)

Rivet detail on cab roof so, I presume, Hornby rather than Lima?
