  1.    Apologies for wide scope of this post, but I am hoping to find the answers to some questions regarding 4mm Kits for SR EMU's and BR DMU's

          Breaking it down   ......

          *       Are there any Kit Manufacturers who produce kits for SR EMU's of the 1950's an 1960's   ??

          *      I believe 'Phoenix kits' used to produce quite a range,  are these still available, if yes, details appreciated.

         *       Are there any kits available for the BR  DMU Class 123 or 124  ?

    Many thanks,  Ian

  2.      Hopefully nobody will object, I have added a couple of photos of D602 'Bulldog'  which has

been professionally weathered.   Comments welcome .....

Brilliant model to start with, in my opinion even better now.

        Cheers, Ian

2858 got a GE pattern tender when it was renamed.  As far as I'm aware, all these had spoked wheels.  This is certainly the case in the photo of 61658 on p22 of Yeadon's Register Vol 5.

Is there a year to that photo  by any chance ?  What Livery ?

        Cheers, Ian

    To All,

Thank you very much for the info, the one I intend to build is 'Essex Regiment',  so disc

    tender wheels it is !

        Thanks again.

            Ian

Actually looking at a couple of photos on the web ...  I am not sure about disc wheels for the tender ??   Can anyone confirm for this engine, 61658

        Cheers, Ian

  7.      LNER/BR B17 Class - Wheels info

I am trying to discover the wheels dimensions etc for the LNER/BR B17 Class ....

Need to know size, number of spokes etc etc   for both Loco and Tender ?

I think the Driving wheel size is 6' 8", with 20 spokes -   Is this correct ?

Leading wheel size is 3' 2"  ??    How many spokes ?

Tender wheel  size is ............ ??

Lastly, which Manufacturer makes the equivalent 4mm scale wheels ?

           Many thanks,  Ian

I don't think anyone has mention the Finney/Brassmasters A4 of late.

All-in-all, it probably is the best 4mm A4 available, but it does take some building.

I assume SPARROW HAWK is one in your picture? If so, have you changed the tender, because all the Finney A4s I've seen as-supplied come with a 1928 corridor tender (inappropriate for any Gateshead-allocated A4)?

    Regards,

    Tony.

       Hi Tony,

Yes changed the tender as required, am now having 60010 built with the 1928 corridor tender ...

It is so easy to make a mistake, but the devil is always in the detail ...   such as a Schools with

    8-Wheeled tender ... 30912 Downside.

    Not yet, Ian,

But I'm working on it. The plan is to have it completed within a year's time.

    Regards,

    Tony.

Thanks Tony,   I think the Irwell Press series  'The book of the xx'  are wonderful reference books,

I was worried I had missed one !

        Cheers, Ian

All Class 47s carried their worksplates on both cabsides at the A end (main radiator end) only. On the final nine out of Loughborough finished in blue (D1953-61) the large cabside BR arrow logos saw the plates attached to the cab doors, but again only at A end. The XP64 loco D1733 was unique in having them applied below the running number on the bodyside, but again at the A end.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that Works were told not to waste time and money moving the plates when repainting locos into the new corporate blue livery (BTW that instruction went live 54 years ago tomorrow!) which raised a lot of questions because it appears that nobody had thought to check how the 'XP64' layout of logos and numbers could be universally applied. All they needed was a copy of the latest Ian Allan ABC........anyway, some works ignored the instruction and moved them, others like Crewe followed it and came up with the reverse situation to the D1953-61 batch, i.e. twin bodyside logos and cabside numbers above (unmoved) worksplates - this scheme was applied to D1528/31/32/36/47/50/58/69/75/95, 1662/84/92, 1712/18/23/25 & 1932. 1589 was added to this list in 1971, two years after the switch to a single central arrow - one of those enduring livery mysteries!

Thank you Neil, answers nearly all my questions on Class 47.   Just need info on Class 40 worksplates now !

I can help you here with the Class 47 part of your query. This is an extract from Class 47 50 Years of Locomotive History published in 2012.

"The Brush plates were oval in shape, in aluminium with a black background (or blue later). Earlier ones bore the words ‘BRUSH TRACTION’, followed by the loco’s works number, year built and lastly, ‘ENGLAND’. On later Brush plates, the word ‘SULZER’ replaced ‘TRACTION’, and ‘ENGLAND’ was omitted altogether. The Crewe plates were larger than those from Brush, also made of aluminium but rectangular in shape. They were painted Sherwood Green or black (blue in later years if they lasted long enough)."

    The Brush plates  were 9 1/2 " x 5 5/8" in size. The Crewe plates were 13" x 6 1/2".

    Hope this helps

    Simon

         Simon,

            Thanks for that, really helpful.

One question, where were they located on the loco ?

           Cheers,  Ian
