Thanks David,
And all the best to you and yours, too.
The A2/3 would have been bought from you by either Geoff West or Gilbert Barnatt. I don't think anyone else who acquired ex-Haymarket locos from you has visited Little Bytham.
Whoever, it's a lovely model. All I'd do to it is to change the bogie wheels (Bachmann's are weak) and add the wiggly pipes.
The following were brought along at the same time...............
Were these once yours as well? If they were, and they're your weathering, these are outstanding (they are, anyway).
Aren't I lucky to have so many splendid models brought along to run on Little Bytham, especially my being given the opportunity to photograph them?
Regards,
Tony.
Thank you Tony
Yes both of those models did belong to me and were weathered by me as well, it must have been Geoff who purchased them.
I only sold one of my models to Gilbert an A4 60031 Golden Plover he did not have that model and it suited his layout and time era.
It’s so nice to see photos of them running again especially on superb layouts such as your Little Bytham and Gilbert’s Peterborough North.
Thank you for your reply.Regards

What was happening in June at LB?
I'd completed (yet another) DJH A3 and was putting it through its paces.
As I did with the new DJH A1 (even more a case of yet another one!).
I'd earlier finished a DJH Britannia.
And that was put through its paces after Geoff Haynes had painted it.
Old teacher training chum, Dave Wisnia, came with his grandson Jack, bringing with them..........
A weathered Hornby A2/3.
And Copley Hill's sole J39.
Someone brought this Bachmann/King conversion of an A2/3.
Geoff Haynes had weathered Geoff West's Hornby A4.
I made a 47xx go for a friend.
And took a picture of 'me' taking a picture of this B16/3 (Nu-Cast/scratch/Wright/Haynes).
Phil Burgess 'team-built' by getting members of his staff to run Little Bytham's sequence (raising £1,000.00 for CRUK at the same time).
I 'fiddled about' making an LMS carriage from a hacked-about Airfix donor and MAJ pre-printed sides.
Sandra Orpen brought along this ex-MSWJR 4-4-0 (a first on Little Bytham).
I gave Hornby's 'train set' MALLARD and its three 'short' Gresleys a run.
As I did with TMC's G5.
July tomorrow.........................
Hi Tony
Although Haymarket has been sold on I still keep a watch on what’s going on in RMWeb.
May I take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy 2024 and the same to all RMWeb members I got to know in the 10 years I was building Haymarket
I am certain that the A2/3 GKing/ Bachmann conversion No 60521 Watling Street in your last post was one of two along with No 60511 Airborne I sold earlier this year but I cannot remember who purchased it from me.
Beat Regards

David,
Thanks for all the wonderful images over the years. I am really glad that the shed has gone to a good home and hope you realised what you had hoped for.
We shall all miss you and your fine images of Haymarket, especially those of us that visited the prototype.
Kind regards,
Richard B
Thank you Richard, that’s very kind of you to say that.
It may amaze people when I say I am relived it has now all been sold as I was getting a little frustrated that I did not have the room to complete it, and to do so was becoming a bit of a money pit and far better than have to dispose of it.
I honestly think I will miss the communication with RMWeb members like yourself more than the layout itself.
Now looking forward to getting back into photography in a big way.
Its been a pleasure talking to you and other members.
Best Regards
David

Hi
I know my last post said THE END, I am a bit like Elton John and his last concerts.
Any way I forgot about this item which is also for sale, a photo plank I made up some years ago following an excellent Andy York article in one of the Model Railway Journals.
This is approx 4'-0" x 1'-6" or 1200mm x 450mm in size, its purely for photographing your model locomotives and with a bit of photoshopping it can produce some stunning images and comes as seen with the signal box included.
Its very light in weight being made from foam insulation board.
This item is too big to be posted so collection from Swindon or close by is the only option.
I am looking for £50.00 for it.
Photos below the show photo plank itself and examples of the type of images you can produce from it.
Any interest please message me, and this will be my final post.

Hi all, haven't been able to find a clear answer for this anywhere online so hopefully someone here can help.
Tim Shackleton has produced two books titled Aspects of Modelling: Locomotive Weathering Projects. This one, with the Deltic on the cover, was published in 2011:
In 2015, this version arrived with a new cover:
Can anyone (perhaps weathering gods @landscapes or @Timara ) confirm if the books are in any way different, with new or updated content inside? Or was it simply a new cover?
Thanks in anticipation...
Hi Ollie
They are different books, I have just sold those two plus a third Tim Shackleton book on weathering rolling stock only a few weeks ago.
They are both well worth getting if you want to do your own weathering.

Hi
Just an update on Haymarket 64B.
The layout hand all locomotives and rolling stock have now been sold with the exception of four locomotive two coaches and a single wagon,
All these remaining models are now with Replica Railways to be sold for me at the next model railway exhibition they attend.
I would like to thank all members for their help and support I have received over the past 10 years.
The buyer of the layout is an RMWeb member so I will leave it to him to make any comments on his intentions with what he will do with it.
The End.
Best Regards

Hello David,
I'm very impressed with your Turntable (Peco I believe) - can you explain what mods you did to it please?
Many thanks
Kind Regards
Brian.
Hi Brian
Thank you for your comments.
The turntable is a standard Peco plastic turntable kit.
I removed the oversize plastic handrails and replaced all in brass, I also scratch built the turntable motor housing from photos.

Thank you Eric, I wondered when someone would notice that. It is indeed a further addition to the PN fleet, but not a sign of returning locoholism. When the sad news that Haymarket was being sold broke, I felt that I would like to have a loco to commemorate it, and had a look through my books, which confirmed my memory that October 1958 Railway Observer had an entry saying that 60031 was on the 5.25pm Peterborough -KX on 13th August 1958. It was an Elizabethan engine that year, and I assume that it must have been failed at KX on that duty, repaired, and given a trip to PN and back before being entrusted to the Elizabethan again. So I could justify it, and have the added bonus that I have an alternative engine to 60012 for the Lizzy too. But I genuinely would not have looked for one had not David made his announcement.
Hi Gilbert
Golden Plover looks well at home on Peterborough North.
Its very satisfying form my point of view to know it will continue to run on your wonderful layout.
Thank you for purchasing it from me.
It’s a shame you already had 60012 as I still have that A4?and 60009 still for sale.

Another splendid day operating Little Bytham with the usual monthly quartet of friends.
All was going fine, until I had the stupidity to comment ''Isn't it going well?". Whereupon, I forgot to set a road correctly, and 'The Elizabethan' promptly scattered some hapless wagons asunder as it ploughed into their brake van! No harm done, however. Anyway, I'm not too precious about my trainset, the wagons were re-railed and the 'Lizzie' sent along the right path.
Then, an A4 derailed at speed on 'The Talisman'! A derailment on LB!!!! It was a modified Hornby one and I suspected it was too narrow back-to-backs which might be the cause. I've adjusted them, and now it's fine.
I've said it before, but one of the principal delights in having friends visiting LB is what they bring with them. Today was no exception........
First up was this M&SWJR 4-4-0, bought second-hand by Sandra Orpen. It came from Hattons, and didn't run all that well. No doubt she'll re-gauge it to EM and change the drive. In fairness, it wasn't that expensive.
Geoff West brought some really interesting items along..........
A DJH A1 appeared first. Geoff Haynes has weathered this.
It came originally from the estate of a deceased modeller in this condition, and I sold it to Geoff (W).
It certainly runs well, toying with this heavy train.
It made an interesting comparison with my own SILURIAN.....
Built by me, also from a DJH kit and painted by Geoff Haynes.
Apart from the difference in finish, it's a pity that the builder of the 'dirty' 60121 didn't alter the cab to give the rake-in towards the eaves.
I'm sure Geoff will add those essential wiggly pipes as well.
Next up.................
Was this modified Hornby A4, again weathered by Geoff Haynes.
Geoff (W) had acquired this in a somewhat tatty state, tidied it up and renumbered/renamed it.
It handled the ten-car 'Queen of Scots' with ease (visiting locos are not required to display lamps).
The greatest modification Geoff did was to cut-down the rear of the tender (an alteration made to three of these 1928 corridor tenders in order that the short water cranes at Euston could reach the filler during the Locomotive Exchanges of 1948. They ran behind MALLARD, SEAGULL and LORD FARINGDON, MALLARD's eventually going to WOODCOCK. FLYING SCOTSMAN, as first preserved got two of these as well!).
Now, Landscapes (David) has been selling off locos from his aborted Haymarket Depot layout, and Geoff West bought some.............
Including this renumbered/renamed/weathered Bachmann A1.
And this pair of altered Bachmann A2s.
And also this Bachmann/Graeme King A2/3.
The problem with all of these is that, when confronted with Bytham's heavy expresses, they just polished the rails! This is the main reason why I build my own locos.
That said, they're all beautifully-observed and the weathering is entirely natural. Yes, some renumbering/renaming will take place to make them more appropriate for an English-based layout, and, no doubt, extra ballast will be added.
You might well have seen the above on David's own Haymarket thread in the past. I think they're lovely.
Thanks to Geoff, Sandra, George and David for another wonderful day!
Hi Tony
Thank you for your kind comments on the locomotives Geoff purchased from me.
I do hope he is happy with them and so nice to see them running on a layout where they can stretch their legs I do hope they didn’t let me down to much trying to pull your superb carriages.
I’m sure Geoff will read this as well, thank you Geoff for taking them to Tony’s Little Bytham.
Regards
David

Hi
These are now the very last items of rolling stock for sale.
Four carriages a wagon and a horse box, none of the items have their original boxes so they will be protected in bubble rap when posted.
Two of the coaches come from the Hornby Talisman pack, the two Gresley coaches I purchased from Ebay quite a few years ago I have no idea of any history on them, all items have been weathered and have plastic bodies
I am looking for £10.00 per item plus postage if anyone is interested, I can also send further photos if required.
On another note, if anyone is interested Haymarket is now up for sale on Ebay and so far I do have a minimum bid so it will be sold by tomorrow evening when the auction ends.
Over the past 10 years its been a privilege building Haymarket and being a member of RMWeb communicating with so many of you.

David

Hi Tony
Yes I do remember selling those two locomotives to Ollie, I’m not sure if he purchased some other locos as well.
On both locomotives I changed the identity and weathered them as well.
They do look good on your wonderful layout.
Thank you for your kind compliments.
Best Regards
