Just seen it passing my place (leaning out of my front room window) but can't help thinking the diesel on the back was doing a lot of the work...

It was delayed leaving H/H and got stuck behind a Brighton stopper... so was hardly shifting when it passed Wivelsfield. Shame. I think the 47 was ticking over -producing carriage heat ? - but there wasn't much in teh way of grunt from it as it passed us.

Apparently it had path problems coming out of Three Bridges and arrived at Haywards Heath around the time it was due to depart.

  3. Finally had Tornado through my hometown. Mind you I also saw her two days ago as well.

  4. Thinking of doing the Cathedrals Express with 6201 from Euston to Kidderminster for the SVR Gala on 22nd September (2 days after my birthday)as a birthday treat for myself. Haven't been on the SVR since 1999, a railtour since 2010 and a tour with Lizzie since 2002.

I think 6201 is on the return as the tour actually goes to Cheltenham with the option of getting off at Kidderminster or Worcester.

  5. Booked my Ticket for Railfest 2012 at York. Haven't been to York for 14 Years when I was about 6 or 7. Fingers crossed 4472 is ready for static display there.

I'm going the day after you. 4965 Rood Ashton Hall is bringing in a railtour to York that day and have yet to see any of the Tyseley fleet. I'm hoping I'll have enough time to look round the NRM but not to sure if I will.

  6. Anyone know any reasonable priced hotels near the NRM in York. Planning on going to Railfest and NRM on eith 8th and 9th June or 9th and 10th June

There used to be a good youth hostel just up the river ... fairly easy walking distance.

  7. So now I just need to see 4489 Dominion of Canada and I've seen all 6 Preserved A4's. 2 of which I saw for the first time today as well as Mallard again. To celkebrate I bought The Book of the A4 Pacifics. Roll on next year to see all 6 together.

Good choice, be sure to get the photographic accompanyments too. ONly one I've got to bag now is 60009.

  8. My Mum bought me a Flying Scotsman 4 DVD set with Flying Scotsman (1929 Film), Tender Memories (1966), Australia (1988 and sadly already have) and A Year in the Life (2000). I just watched Tender Memories and was delighted to see 4472 steaming near Haywards Heath and a few shots of her at Brighton. A shame it was 25 years before I was born. Hopefully one day it can happen again.

  14. It may be immature but been laughing at the name of one of the Marseille footballers called Rod Fanni. As Tom Baker once said in an episode of Doctor Who ''There's no point in grown up if you can't be childish sometimes''

  15. Great day yesterday.

  16. Well wasn't expecting Tornado to spend nearly an hour at Haywards Heath on the way back to Lewes. Tornado Effect still in full swing as the car park has never been that full of people before when I've been down there.

  18. Looking forward going up to Mallard 75 tomorrow.

  19. Sat at home and watching F1 but strangely I hear train whistles and Tangmere has been through and not returned yet and I don't normally hear the Bluebell locos.
