.... wonders why the second wealthiest country in Europe is the least generous in offering sanctuary to those fleeing war. I'm ashamed to be British.

Not a new thing...why do you think so many have died trying to cross the channel in recent years? So much more to be said on this subject but not much point on here, would just get a thread lock and a ban I fear.
