  1. I did wonder once about modelling the stretch of railway next to the Bluebird factory!
  2. No the Telegraph article is rather simplistic and assumes two separate situations mean the end of the hobby. I haven’t bought anything for years from Hattons and haven’t been to the Warley Exhibition. The hobby adapts and will continue. What is interesting is how after one article noting the coincidence , every other newspaper had basically repeated the story. The article in The Critic is quite sensible and reflects the sensible statement made by AndyY about people talking about the end of the hobby. My comment was about the organ carrying the sensible article and why @J. S. Bach may not have heard of it. Tony
  3. That is because it isn’t in anyway part of the mainstream media. That isn’t a particularly typical article, it could have appeared in many journals. I think they consider themselves some sort of edgelord types but really it is just a lot of contrarian opinion.
  4. This is one of the best arguments against flat earthers. If the earth were flat, cats would have pushed everything off.
  5. It doesn’t seem to have got to episode S3 47 on iPlayer yet but it is available on Disney+ , Just watched it.
  6. I am probably more at the blobby adult end of the market…
  7. I can remember looking at the work set for students doing philosophy A level if I had to cover for an absent colleague. It didn’t look easy. Matthew took Philosophy as what he called his “fun” subject. Although he got A grades in his other exams he was most proud of the D he got in philosophy as most of the class didn’t pass that year
  8. Morning all. It is sunny but was cold enough earlier for frost on garden buildings. It still isn’t very warm. I went to the shops to pick up a prescription for Aditi and leave my watch to have a bracelet link reinserted. It was a bit tight last time I attempted to wear it. This is a nice stainless steel watch rather than my everyday plastic Casio watch. I did look at a couple of YouTube videos that showed how to replace the links using a paperclip and a small hammer or how to use an easily available on Amazon press but supporting a small local business seemed easier. We may head off this afternoon to Hyde Hall gardens to admire their winter exhibits. Before that we will need to sort out the shopping that is on its way to us. When I went out to the car this morning I noticed three 25kg bags of salt pellets. My nice neighbour over the road gets extra when he needs some. We have identical water softeners and use about the same amount. However he has a big van and gets it when it is on offer. It isn’t on offer anywhere now and is much more expensive than last year but if you need it… Another neighbour said he didn’t use anything like as much salt as we both did. He had somehow turned it off. Tony
  9. I do like seeing the snowdrops appear. We brought a few clumps down from Nottingham last century. They appear in quite a few places,in our garden as I think the tiny bulbs get moved about when we move shrubs. It always used to be snowdrops first but everything seems confused now.
  10. Before the days of AI generated essays Matthew said some,of the essays handed in by people on the MRes course he was on had the subject Google translated into the students home language, the essay written in that language and then translated back from that into English, The university “encouraged “ him to help as he was one of two mother tongue English students on the course, or as he put it unpaid language tutors. He was mildly amused that some Dutch academics were especially critical of his English academic style. Tony
  11. Our district council has won awards for its recycling scheme. Which was very embarrassing when the very distinctive bags were photographed on a Malaysian dump.
  12. I was going for the verbal pun or deliberate misspelling for comedic effect….
  13. It is important to keep stakeholders informed.
  14. I think it goes up a bit after a year (or perhaps 2, not sure). Aditi also, subscribes to one of their other supplements, something food related I think. She also reads a selection of newspapers via the Essex Library online service. This is probably why she doesn’t watch much television . Tony
  15. Aditi had already solved the NYT puzzle before it was mentioned here, I don’t want to give too much away for any other subscribers but Handsome and Hippo do go as part of a four word group, though you might like the association of one of the other words but perhaps not the other!
  16. If ever some future archeologists investigate our en suite bathroom they might probably assume some sort of blood ritual had been involved in the construction . And that was long before I started taking anti coagulants.
  17. We are lucky, the builders didn’t bother with skirting behind the kitchen units. There were some gaps. I stuffed them with steel wool and expanding foam after we had an uninvited small furry visitor sampling stuff stuff in our under sink bin.
  18. Milliput is great for reprofiling. Aditi asked if I could repair a terracotta strawberry pot and I said why not get a new one until she told me how much the damaged one had cost.
  19. The safety net is actually much further away than it looks too.
  20. My task today is to do MiL’s shopping and take it over to Enfield. Aditi was going to do it but she is a bit unwell today. She is remarkably robust and recovers quickly but today is better as a day of rest. I have in addition to the shopping got to,choose something for lunch at MiLs, Aditi suggested a quiche “Do NOT get one with bacon” , as if I would! It is very slightly out of my way but I will get the food from the M&S Food shop on Canvey. Easy parking, and MiL is used to their stuff from Ocado. Tony
  21. That reminded me that there used to be a brand of shoe polish called Cherry Blossom. Not sure why as it was black or brown.
  22. There was a choice of a high wire or a glass floor… Somewhere in Switzerland 2017
  23. The tilapia in the hippo tank were quite large fish and the ones served up as fish and chips in Texas were definitely fillet sized. I did see some pedicure fish once and they were quite small.
  24. No, fear not, Tucker the hippo is alive and well and according to the Zoo is in a symbiotic relationship with with the tilapia. They eat his poo and clean dead skin from his body. I am not sure what the tilapia I was served in the US had been eating but it tasted very bland.
  25. That was why we moved to a larger house.
