  1. Cheers all. Weekend at last! Weather has been like this in recent days, so hearty autumnal meals are once again on the menu. I do suspect weather conditions will also contribute to incidents like this one shortly past 0400 this morning: Taken by someone on site, it should be evident that this van isn't where it ought to be. It took until after 0800 for it to be recovered. There's been a number of such groundings this week, in fact. And then there also was a rather major accident yesterday involving one tram rear-ending another, which left 49 persons injured. For reasons which should be obvious and to prevent trigger events, I will only provide this news link, assuming it isn't geoblocked: https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen/leipzig/leipzig-leipzig-land/angerbruecke-strassenbahn-unfall-polizei-verletzte-102.html Here's hoping everyone affected will recover fully, including the driver of the second tram. Regardless of whether human or technical failure might turn out to be the cause, I am sure this incident is going to haunt him for a long time... Stay safe, everyone.
  2. My feelings exactly after the cr4p that was 2020/21…
  3. I followed the reports about the Baltic Sea storm surge last week. My parents live up there, after all, even if sufficiently far inlands that they were not at risk by flooding (though high winds could still have caused lots of damage there, obviously). While they weren't harmed in any way, the footage I saw still did drive home the point of the sea being a savage mistress who commands respect and who will kill you remorselessly if you are oblivious of that. And also of even a more or less sheltered body of water like the Baltic being no less fearsome than any of the major oceans under such conditions.
  4. Evening all. Pishin' it doon again! I'll just leave this here... Gives me the goosebumps. Few bits of music I know express resolve as well as this. Stay safe, everyone...
  5. Cheers all. Gonna inspect eyelids in a few! Warning: R**l**y content follows... As you may know, the railways in Alsace have retained RH running from the German period, as opposed to LH operation elsewhere in France. There is a fairly long grade-separated crossover between Imling and Xouaxange for changing between both modes. Stay safe...
  6. Moaning awl. Still quite balmy, rather too much so for this time of year... Got a week of leave, and not too soon. The kids are at home today as well because of a staff training day at the kindergarten, so they volun-told me to take them to a toy store. Been in those shoes myself many moons ago, but it's still funny to be the parent now! Positive vibes to anyone in need. Be well soon, @iL Dottore ...
  7. Cheers all. It's pishing it doon, I believe they'd say in Scotland! That calls for a quiet day, though the house will need a bit of tending to. Not a lot else going on here, so, stay safe and sound...
  8. Funnily, Livia isn’t that much into sweets either, quite unlike Annika. Livia has even tried things like soused herring, which Annika wouldn’t voluntarily eat.
  9. Yeah, I heard that before. Would have been a major PR snafu otherwise indeed…
  10. „Your Chance is Orange“ might be a somewhat problematic slogan in various parts of Northern Ireland, eh? 🤭
  11. Moaning awl. Mostly overcast with traces of sunlight. Shift starts in about an hour, so I'll be on my way in a few. Have you ever regretted selling models? I certainly have, but I've now managed to source another example of a full train I've previously owned. Stay tuned! Later...
  12. Moaning awl. Long time no see! Getting increasingly autumnal here. As it should, I dare say, following a much too warm extended summer. Caffeination still incomplete, so bear with me… 😫
  13. Evening all. Just to quickly chime in and to offer this song from an era when music was so much better…
  14. Third party insurance is mandatory for motor vehicles here, and rightly so. I could only skim the past couple of pages, unfortunately, but I noticed someone of our number bringing buses into the equation. I cannot comment on the legal situation in the Anglosphere, but here, it’s not uncommon for public transport operators to be self-insured, provided their corporate underpinnings are suitable. LVB are that, in any case.
  15. Evening all. Split shi(f)t which started far too early, so I’ll sign off for eyelid inspection soon. Good thing is, every new shift proves that I still got it! May I leave this here for the night… Excellent combo she got there, too!
  16. Moaning awl. About two hours of thunderstorms contributed to insomnia... I'll leave this here:
  17. Did I leave this here yet? Rad performance in any case:
  18. Cheers all. Back from The North! Dinner will be Chinese carry-out, possibly followed by a sip of this: Matured in brandy barrels, I gather. Later...
  19. On the subject of submarines, I’ve also been aboard HMS Otus, now a floating museum in Sassnitz on Rügen: https://hms-otus.com
  20. I haven't been to Lisbon yet but watched various videos of their rollercoaster routes. I would, in fact, like to have a go at driving there, though from the same videos, I could also gather how, uh, thrilling encounters with other road users might be! Of course, four-wheeled trams will handle quite differently from modern stock, too.
  21. It was chucking it down while we were inside the boat and the rain was clearly audible on the outer hull. That was a rather impressive illustration of just how little material there would have been between the crew and the perils of the sea on submarines from this period. I had visited Laboe and U 995 many years before as a kid (and been much easier able to pass those narrow passages and hatches inside then!), though looking it over now struck me with the realisation how these boats weren't actually very big and appeared even fragile. Which they doubtlessly were!
  22. There are people of this kind here too, usually from the further-right end of the spectrum.
