  1. There is an etch still to get hold of for the side grills. I don't think the front louvres will look too bad when it's all painted. I have now finished all I can until I get the odd parts from JLTRT to finish it off. I have added a nice big lump of lead that I had in a draw to give it a bit of traction, especially as it's only driving on the one axle at the moment. There are cast whitemetal lamps to go in the holes on the ends but these will be glued in after I have put Fox Transfers wasp stripes on. The rear of the cab will be glued on after I have painted the interior. It will need a little bit of filler round the seam as well. Not a bad build, took a week to finish it though
  2. That's the speedo drive David. Unfortunatly the bit on the rod is not replicated in the kit.
  3. I must wire up the pick-ups to see what it runs like. I have ordered the Allen key from Slaters as it's about half the size of the axle ones. I was going to do 08946 an ex oxford 08 but it has Western style side lamp brackets rather than the normal ones suplied in the kit. I want to build this as per the kit to photgraph it so JLTRT could use the pictures to enhance their instructions. There are still a couple of small castings that I can't identify
  4. Here is an update on the progress so far. Looks more like an 08 now. Still got the cab to sort out though although the interior has to be painted first before I stick the rear on.
  5. Camera lens playing tricks, I can assure you I have not bent DBS's shunter. I have had a 37 and a 45 off the road in the past mind you, never bent those either. Take some more pics of the 08 soon.
  6. Hi Simon I took a full set of pictures of the wheels to show the balance weights and the relation of the crank to the spokes. Took ages to stop the pilot in the right place with the crank upright
  7. It might be just about done by the end of the week hopefully. I am waiting for the coupling rods so I can't get on with that area at the moment and I also do not have a small enough allen key to secure the cranks. I did not relize they were so small when I bought them on Saturday. You could fit any motor gearbox combo if you want to remove a bit of the resin chassis. The Slaters one sits nicely in a "cradle" on the rear axle. I am not sure if it was made for this kit specificaly of the kit was made to fit the gearbox. I took it to work to try and give it a run but it kept falling off the rail I also tried to sort out the coupling rods but found they were a bit big!
  8. Glad to here it David I swear there wasn't any in the first run of your 08 when I built it all them years ago, or is my mind starting to play tricks on me?
  9. Done a bit more this afternoon. I glued the bonnet sides and front to the roof after inserting the M3 threaded inserts. I have squeezed the wheels on their axles being carefull to line up the crank with a spoke. One job to do later is to make some balance weights as there are non in the kit. Mind you I don't think there are any in the MMP 08 either. I took some pictures today to show where the weights go in relation to the spokes and cranks. The motor and gearbox is now permanantly fixed in place. The sideframes are screwed onto the frames so are removable, hopefully. I have just placed the body and side boxes on just get a feeling for it.
  10. Well spotted that man. The coupling rods are pre drilled on a jig by JLTRT. Unfortunatly they put the wrong ones in the box, ones that had not been drilled yet. I returned them at the show so I am waiting for the drilled ones to come. Plenty to be getting on with in the mean time though.
  11. Hi David, there is only one running plate in the kit. I do not know if they may do a different one later on. This kit is for 08's with the extra compressor box on the left hand side over the 2 lower air intakes. I have made the 4 buffersup. Nice touch with these is that they are a self contained type that when compressed does not go into the bufferbeam. Usually there is a bit goes back through the bufferbeam when compressed but on an 08 the frames are there so a self contained buffer is the only answer or a cutout in the frames. Now though for the tricky bit, trying to glue them on the bufferbeam without glueing them solid
  12. At Reading on Saturday I got hold of a JLTRT 08 kit Here are some pictures showing what is in the box plus the Slaters wheels and motor/gearbox for it. Going through the parts it is a very nice kit with a quite few castings for such a small engine. I must admit that there are a couple of castings that even I can't identify at the moment and I have been driving them quite a lot recently As usual the instructions, whilst good, could do with being a bit clearer. You definatly need some close up pictures to help with this. Anyway I have just made the buffers! Think I will end up doing 08946 an ex Oxford loco.
  13. I have now finished re-painting my Westdale 121 from green to BR Blue. I changed the buffers from oval to large Oleo's well was at it. Have to get on and put the transfers on now if can find enough arrows I have just ordered a driving trailer to go with it!
  14. The wood effect come out better than I thought it would I painted it first with Railmatch Teak which is a light brown/tan colour. If you go back to page 20 there are a couple of pictures of the Teak painted interior. Then I went over it with Ronseal Walnut coloured satin varnish. Ronseal do quite a few different coloured varnishes but I am sure Walnut is the more common wood interior. I remember seeing on some MkI interiors a little plaque telling you what the wood was.
  15. Hi Alan, look forward to seeing your TSO on here. Well the RMB is finished. I took a couple of pictures with the roof off to let the light in. The CK is nearly finished. I really should get it done. I am just about to paint my Westdale 121 into plain blue. Thing is would it look nice with a driving trailer coupled up to it?
  16. I have been trying a bit of panning in the nice Easter sunshine. Could be the real thing with that blured privit hedge background?
  17. Welcome to RMweb Glad the thread has been helpfull for you. I have just ordered a SO to go on my rake. What time period/livery are you doing yours? Whilst waiting for paint to dry, which ain't long in this weather! I have stripped my green 121 ready to re-paint it in blue or blue/grey. Just glueing the bits back on that fell off and re-filling gaps after using Nitromors to get the paint off
  18. Getting round to painting my JLTRT RMB at last. As the interior is already painted I have masked off the window holes with Tamiya 40mm masking tape and screwed the roof on. I will paint the blue first and then the grey as it's easier to mask it this way I find. The black underframe will be done last. I usually do one colour a day so as to let it dry fully before masking over it. So I should have this done over the weekend.
  19. There was a terminal built at Islip between Oxford and Bicester Town. It was for fuel for Upper Heyford. The airbase had it's fuel piped in but I think this terminal was a belt and braces job just incase of distruption. I do not remember any trains using the terminal from at least the mid 70's. Don't know about any earlier times or when it was built but was it in the cold war era? I believe the track is still in the terminal.
  20. I would email one to him but computers are foreign to him. I will have it at the ALSRM show in May in Reading, think he attends that. Now I have done this I must get and strip my green 121 and re-paint that into blue or blue/grey to go with it.
  21. Now there's a thought, smellyvision for models. Should I put a piece of rag soaked in diesel inside it?
  22. I get my Tamiya tape from Howes. It's good stuff for making odd shape masks like the ones for a 47/56 yellow end. There is a lot on a roll and I use it for general masking say down the side of a loco.
  23. Did a bit of airbrush weathering on the 128 this afternoon. I will try a little rust colours with the dry brush later. Will look good with a couple of vans in tow.
