  1. Just driven 60048 from Eastleigh to Didcot on 6V27. Got a lovely fuel leak on the engine, now on my shoes:(
  2. Thanks for the pics Richard. I did get and do mine by cutting a bit out of the middle which moved the sides in by about the same amount as you have done. I can't wait to get a bit of weathering on mine as it brings up the underframe a treat on yours.
  3. Thanks Richard. That's the solution I was thinking about but just thinking about it is as far as it's got! I have just made a Hawker Siddely speedo drive for one bogie and removed the speedo drive on the other bogie. I will have do the tank mod though. Stick some pics of yours here please. By the way the 27/2 body is in primer.
  4. I have been thinking about thinning the tanks Richard but am a bit stumped what to do. Those 4 cast supports are a bit close to the sides aren't they. What did you do?
  5. Getting there slowly. Painted the sandboxes and steps today. Also painted the yellow end with Railmatch yellow which looks a bit better, and also did the piller on the glazing which is unpainted on the model. One problem though doing the yellow was a bit of the runs with the white primer under the masking tape! Touched up with blue again but it ain't good. Painted the airpipe taps as well. Just the boiler blanking plate to do then weather it. I also ordered some data panals from Precision labels for a 47 with KY depot stickers. Don't know if anyone has noticed but the model has different windy wipers at each end! I am doing a swap with a friend who has a green un so he needs a set of pantograph ones where as I need a set of straight ones. 06 worksplates are painted as well just got to stick them on.
  6. Well the next corse of action would be to ask Shawplan or Pete Harvey if they will do detail etch packs for these Heljan products. I know Pete Harvey has done some bits already, steps for example, so he may do some more.
  7. Hi Nidge You too would have time for modelling if you weren't running around learning/conducting those fast passenger trains:P I have got my feet up modelling, carry on boys:lol: The oleo's are some spares from JLTRT although I only have 2 at the moment. 27 does look spot on doesn't it.
  8. Another project on the go at the moment is a Heljan 47 that I have decided to do as 47307 complete with sandboxes! Only trouble is no one does a 47 sandbox so I have used JLTRT 20 boxes. They are not quite deep enough but they will have to do. The etched steps are from Pete Harvey of this parish and very nice they are too. The handrail on the front is too flat a profile so needs lifting up in the centre but doing this I will have to remove the 2 blocks that it sits on. After doing this the yellow would need repainting which I am tempted to do anyway as the finish on the model is a bit dull, a bit like IM locos really that always had a faded look to them. Will have to make a blanking plate for the boiler exhaust as well. Forgot to say one thing I have done is mill away behind the lifeguards on the end of the bogies. Looks a bit better now it's thinner. Hopefully come up nice when it's weathered.
  9. Another project that's been on the back burner for a while is the 06 as I have been waiting for the worksplates from Diane Carney. I now have these so can get round to cutting them out and painting them then a bit of weathering. The lettering on them is not 100% but they are the only ones you can get and they do look the part which is the main thing.
  10. Now added the orange electric conduit down the side on the chassis and the other larger pipe above the tanks. Put the pipes on the end to see what the end looks like with all the clutter there. Started doing the filling now as well.
  11. Hello 55017 I don't know of a supplier of the plated headcode panels unfortunatly but as has been said you might give DJH a ring as I do wonder what they do with all the "spare" etched bits they get when they do a 47 build for example. There are 2 sizes of the headcode etch in their Deltic by the way. I am sure that when the Deltic comes out that Shawplan of Pete Harvey may well do an etch detail set for these models, I am living in hope anyway:)
  12. Not sure about those either. They are an etch glued in so might be able to pull them off.
  13. I did use Tamiya NATO green in the end. I don't recall the cab forward Landrover in their range which is a shame as it would look very nice on the wagons.
  14. The coach is on the back burner for a bit whilst get on with an ETH 27/2. The standard 27 kit has had new sides made to represent the 27/2 with the extra grills for the ETH donkey engine. Unfortunatly the ETH was missing from the kit but I had some ETH from their 45 kits in the spares box so i have used this. Do do the 27/2's you have to remove the details from the solebar on one side and replace with a piece of plastic strip to represent a piece of conduit. The boiler tank guages should be filled in both sides. An exhaust for the donkey engine needs making in one of the boiler compartment vents from a piece of tubing. Still to be done in the attached pictures is a wire conduit under the plastic strip and another wire under that along the top of the tanks (present on 27/1 and /2 only). I have added the pipework from the fuel filler/drain. If anyone is comtemplating one of these I hope the pictures help.
  15. After getting a couple of bits at Telford for the coach I am now back on it. I got hold of 2 vacuum cylinders from Easybuild so I have now been able to finish the brake gear. Also bought some etched door hinges from Westdale as the ones on the kit do not show the hinge baseplate. I know some MkI's were built with the hinge inside the crease but I believe these all got changed to the style with the hinge screwed onto the coach side. Also got a JLTRT 27/2 I am building at the moment that I will post here soon.
  16. Well I recon I have finished it now I have the plates on from Shawplan/Brian. I varnished it again with a bit more gloss as I thought it was a bit flat for a top link loco. I WILL weather it but maybe not until next year, just have to wait and see what Mr Heljan wants. Sorry about the rather cruel blow up of the worksplate but you can just make out the wording. Oh yes the worksplates should really be blue but if I painted them I think you would loose the details and they would probably just look like blue rectangles on the body. So I left them black so they show up.
  17. See what you mean Brian. As you say I hadn't noticed it in blue livery but most certainly would in green. Lets hope as this is a pre-production model something may be done to correct it. I have made a list of etched parts to tart one up, finer lower lamp brackets Thicker headcode silver suround Fold up headboard brackets so you get a slot in there. Boiler filler next to the center grill. Front corner steps and bogie steps from a decent thickness etch as especialy the corner steps are going to get knocked. Do you think there is anything else?
  18. Thanks for the white balance info Dave, must try it sometime. Now we are in the mood for upgrading one of these already I have taken this picture with an etched headcode panel from a DJH Deltic and an etched step from a DJH 37 blue tacked on. If you want to do a re-furbished one than fill in the sandboxes but I don't know what you can do to the quarter lights. Could you use filler on the glazing or just paint it blue! The bogies are taken from their 37 so they have the raised edge of a fabricated one. They won't make a new sideframe for this as they did not for the 4mm 26/0 with the leaf springs. You might be able to remove the raised edge as you have to do this to the DJH Deltic if you want a cast bogie. The bogie could do with a new step etch with holes in the side and see through step treads whilst you are etching corner steps, headboard brackets, re-furbished headcode panels etc. As was said this is not mine so I have to give it back to Heljan to represent what their model will be and not what it could be. I would love to weather this but it's probably not what they want.
  19. Now got all the windows back in and the handbrake chains connected. I have had to glue the buffers in as this is one area to sort out. I have taken a picture of the slope of the nose, the verticle handrail and headcode do slope back. Also a picture looking down the body to, hopefully, show the tumblehome. Almost forgot there's a close up of the Precision Labels data panel.
  20. Regarding the BR Blue in the pic I use a Canon G10 I changed the white balance to daylight but it still does not like blue. Used the same camera on auto white balance in the attic under strip lights and I think they are ok. I had the same trouble with my Canon 30D in that the blue on my models where rubish. Anyway the Deltic has been varnished now since I got the data panels today so I might get it back together today if it dries or maybe at the weekend but I am demoing at the Swindon Steam Museum show this weekend so we will have to see. I will have to try and measure the height of these later to sort out the height thing. Will have to phot it next to my DJH Deltic as well. Still waiting for the nameplates though.
  21. Hi Nidge, when ordering the data panals you have to sort out the style and content you want precision labels It helps to go on this site Number Panels and work out what to fill in. Thought i would take a pic in the garden with a JLTRT MkIId. I allways thought the MKII was a bit on the vertically challanged side, but it must be said I have not measured the Deltic either. Does anyone know of a camera that does BR Blue justice?
  22. Got some transfers on it now all bar the data panal that I am still waiting for from Precision labels. Interestingly the Deltics never had any overhead warning flashes for a long time. I had to push the cab side windows in to line up the arrows with the center window. I have put the larger arrow on this as they did not start using smaller ones until the late 70's. I have painted up the desk which is a very nice piece of work, shame about the motor covering beind it though. Made some headcodes up as well. Heljan have done a nice job of the tanks but we will have to wait and see whether they paint all the detail on them.
  23. Do you think the whole run will be sold out as pre-orders before it hits the shelves! I have spent all day painting this. You would thin it's only yellow blue and black it would not tale long, especially as the yellow was already done yesterday. But there is a bit of silver on window frames, yellow on air pipes, brown, white and blue on tanks, white and red on fire pull , black on exhausts and touching up the tanks after doing the white. It seems to go on for ever. Still, will get the transfers on tomorrow and hopefully the correct data panals from Preccision Labels I ordered will come soon. If you want to see this in the flesh then it will be at Warley. But don't forget that my painting will have a bit more detail than the production model. I doubt that they will paint the silver window frames on the clear window mouldings, or the air pipes. Will have to ask them if they can do the window frames as it is a fair bit of silver on the cab sides.
  24. Acording to "The Book of the Deltics" from Irwell Press 9014 was duel braked in 6/6/68 and ETH fitted 23/7/71 and blue 18/11/69 so this is going to modelled from 11/69 until 7/71 until I get the ETH then it will be as running from 7/71 until 1/74 when it had proper TOP's numbers fitted:P Judging by the reaction on this thread had we better tell Heljan to do a big run as it seems to be getting quite a few people into the slippery slope of 7mm.
  25. So Nidge it will be ok to run steam heat trains. I can run it with aircons when it goes into the Oxford workshops for ETHing early next year. It's looking more like a Deltic.
