Mike, I have just filed the top of the buffers flat and soldered a wire from one nut to the other nut which stops them turning. Should sun bleached wood be more of a grey colour rather than a brown type stain? By the way the wood deck is not glued on until after painting. Then there is a piece of L shape brass to paint green and then glue on the side of the wood after it's all done which stops the ends of the planks getting damaged. Attached a couple of pics that hopefully show the greyish look to the decking.

Well the Warflat is as good as done in 2 days! Have ordered some Slaters wheels for it then only have to solder the 2 sideframes to the bolsters. I have added a bit of wiring for the air pipe runs under the deck. Anyone know how to stain the wood deck to look like old wood?

We do have one or two Warflats/wells through Didcot Appleby is still doing 7mm kits. Not many in the list I just got of him on Saturday but he does list all maner of small parts including most types of bogies, loads of buffers and couplings. He also does quite a few transfers for air braked stock.

At Reading on Saturday I purchased 4 Warflat kits from Appleby Models. I still need to get some wheels for them, since ordered from Slaters, and some couplings which I have ordered from Appleby. As the wheels are "Lowmac" small wheels they will be missing the diac pads so I will try and see if a friend can etch me some and also some worksplates. Probably do with a label clip as well. Why do wagon kits rarley come with label clips as they all had them? I have been building today and am now adding some air pipe work around the distributor and variable loading valves. One nice touch is that it has a scribed wooden deck. Appleby did say they are doing the Warwell to go with these, now they will look nice in 7mm. Anyone do a little tank in 7mm?

Well Ian I had a word with John Talbot from Appleby and he gave me a parts list that he does and Salmon 8'0'' plate bogie (roller or plain bearings available) are ??9.00 and 5'6'' plate bogie is also ??9.00.

Because the decks on Salmons are chequer plate metal Martin with a few holes in them for stantions.

Ian as for Warwells I think he may be going to do them. Will find out on Saturday as they would obviously go well with the Warflats. Anyone knoe of 1:43 army vehicles?

Ok Ian we will see what he says. I have to pic up some Warflat kits from him when I find him in the crowds.

I suspect Appleby would do his whitemetal bogies separate Ian. Do you want me to ask him at Reading tomorrow?

Loksound XL decoders:

Try it with the jumper off as the impedence incompatibility muffles the sound files and you are not getting the proper effect.

On my RJH Class 26 with Howes Class 26 sound files I set CV63 to 20 when in my garage which is enough, for bigger venues put CV 63 to 25, this should be a brave enough setting.

 

I even drop CV63 to 15 if I want a quieter run at night, the band for CV63 is 1 to 64.

I will remove the pin on my 26 later and give it a run on the DC (why is there never a DCC controlled test track these days?) test track tomorrow at Reading, should turn a few heads! I get Howes to program F8 to toggle through 4 automatic settings for the volume. Just press F8 and the volume increases up to 4 times. It's a lot easier than keep resetting CV's. I think this option is only available on the XL chips.

You are right Cliff I have not done the red thingy on this. I did on my 20052 and boy is it loud. I think it could be heard across the NEC hall when I ramped it up full volume. I might move the pin when I go inside the 26 again to see how much louder it makes it.

Regarding the smoke and fans Simon apart from the fact I am more than content to look at the models stood still it probebly has something to do with the fact that I am getting too lazy to do it!

I have only this one Sealion to build at the moment I may not get another one ti later next year as I have 3 MMP dogfish to build and finish my shark.

Then I will look at scratch building a handfull of salmons

Mr Appleby did a kit for a salmon many moons ago. Wonder if he still does it?

I see 47474 has the wrong style of ETH jumpers on it. It should have the original style on the front yellow just to the right of the headlight. By the way I always use doublesided tape for the nameplates.

quick question what is the length over the class 20 buffer to buffer, i thought i would ask just to check if my plan to fit 2 on a certain siding with out fouling anywhere in advance like

328mm I make it. Hope it's short enough

 

Just sorting out a JLTRT Whistler to do - lack of parts list for the castings does not really help matters.

The window rubbers are moulded on the glazing but as you can see it is not painted. One of the little jobs to do when you get one.

What do you want to know about the JLTRT 40 kit Mike. What 40 do you want to do?

I have just run a prototype 7mm class 20 round my garden layout to see what it will do. I only tried a 5 coach train but it ran round with ease. This is not as heavy as the other locos from Heljan but it still pulls enough for a type one loco. There are still some steps to put on and a brake cylinder is missing. Whilst I was at it I thought I would take some pics next to one of my JLTRT 20's. Make your own mind up about them both

what running numbers will these releases be?

The 20's and the coaches will be un-numbered so you can have what number you like. Just make sure with the 20 that you do not choose an ex token recess one as they have deeper side windows.

Yes I do Mike. Just scrape the paint off the spigot and superglue them in.

You are quite right that there is no smoke or rad fan working. I did a rad fan in a JLTRT 37 and to be honest it does not do much for me. Niether does smoke. As you said I tried it but it still does not look convincing enough to me. I just stick to lights these days. Lets be honest these models sit on a shelf 99.9% of the time so I just want them to look the part.

Poor old 692 Mind you I think it's razor blades now isn't it?

I wish Phill Just have'nt got anywhere to put one. With me having a few blue locos I really should have a TMD layout. If Heljan get their Shirebrook 7mm depot kit out it might spur me on to try and find room for a layout but I can't honestly see where I could put one.

Don't think anyones posted a pic of 37692 that Didcot fitters repainted with their own colour mix. I got the nameplates made from a local graphics shop and stuck them on. Has anyone got the "flame cut" names saved?

It does sound very nice Peter. Just need another 10 all idling away at 05:00 in the morning to replicate Inverness after doing the overnight from Glasgow Ah happy days.

Done a bit of weathering to the 26 today. It looks better in the flesh I think, the pictures don't show it much for some reason. Anyway you can see and hear it for yourself at Warley on the Rail Express stand.

I had to put the sound chip in sideways as the body mounts in the centre of the loco get in the way of laying it flat on the chassis. Again I have used a stock 40mm speaker.

As for the windows Cliffe I think whats happening here is that they are a bit deep. If you could "flush glaze" it, it would look better maybe.
