  2.

4: One of these photos shows air compressors on the right-side quite near the cab front. I PRESUME this is an "auto" fitted loco - was this common ?

    Thanks in advance.

    .

there were not push pull fitted as this was h class 0-4-4 locomotives the air compressors might be for air brakes.

  3. So what do Hornby make in Margate now then? because im sure the factory was still producing, unless they just do the Railroad stuff??

Dapol used to have thier factory in Llangollen, along with a Dr Who exibition! You could take factory tours. Now Dapol have moved just down the road to the South of Chirk, they have a shop there, but its only a small ind unit, so guess its just used for the design etc.

Hornby just design marketing and disturbition since 1997 the marget site has I believe no manufacture facility

Dapol They actually make stuff using chinse supplied chasis and possable tooling.

  4. the OHLE on ECML was done on a very cost centre way so it can come down in high winds. The 3rd rail ices up and is no go for power supply to EMU also I think certain parts of Germany have frequent snowfall compared to the UK.

  5. Firstly there is no preproduction test models or shots so there is not much to talk about

second the 350 is on the WCML like the class 85 even though not the same timeframe

Thridy 450, 360 are doable the 185 and 444 require to much new tooling to be cost effective.

Fourthly who imangine we be getting OHLE EMU ready to run

  6. i.e cost lets have some thought about this area.

Basic material prices i.e steel, copper etc have increased in value year on year increase the cost at factory

    China Labour costs is increasing

    Tooling cost increased

Shipping increased due to increase in fuel plus some fleets are stored up due to the current finical situation which means less boats moving on the seas so space can be at a premium

Increase business and corporate lending cost.

So people want high quality models at last years prices good luck to Hornby and Bachmann etc as this is the path of destruction, stock on sheleves dont make anyone money nor can you get cash out of it quick. The problem in this finical climate is cashflow have to little and the nails are being hammered in your coffin.

So ??150 for a limited run model of say 5000 units with the above increased cost areas plus use of laser scanner equipment, engineering a new chassis since there is not one of the shelf, same goes for certain paint and liveries. Higher than normal finical risk than say a T9 so for those of us who pay the price they can get a model they may not be able to build from kit or scratch. The manufacturer stays in business can use some of the profit on the normal range. The NRM get a cut for upkeep and maintenance of the collection a win, win situation and it is interesting that more shops and magazines are commissioning higher finical risk models than the manufacturers themselves.

  7. Looking through the Warley 2009 Guide, a few pages from the end, there is a full page announcement that in 2010 Heljan is going to be doing the Baby Deltic, 4-character headcode version, in both green and blue.

Hopefully there'll be more info on their stand at the show.

    Time to start saving.

(I suppose you might have got Kestrel and a Baby Deltic together at Kings Cross)

    Topic is here
