  1. I recently picked up a unmade Freightman 7mm wagon kit at a show.

The kit seems very nice. Does anyone know the full range of kits that were produced. A friend sent me this advert, but I thought there were more LNER wagons? Can anyone advise.

Also just wondering what happened to this range? I assume like Imptus it’s no longer available.

    Thanks

    David

  3. Hi look for further info on this class of locomotives.

I have the RCTS loco’s of the LNER part 7 and the Locomotives Illustrated 130 but does anyone know if there are any other articles about them in any of the various periodicals - Railway Bylines/BRILL etc?

    Thanks

  4.  I'm trying to work out when these wagons carried this livery? I remember them in the 1980's but don't recall this the Shellstar logo?

I assume that this was there first version of the livery carried in the 1970's, but wondering did any wagons last into the 1980's with this version. The lastest picture I can find is 1981.

    Thanks

  5. One of the layouts that will be part of the show is “Little Histon”. This is a model of Histon Railway Station which was on the railway line between Cambridge and St Ives.

This is the first show the layout has attended and will show a representative sample of the service the line saw in the late 1950’s and 1960’s including traffic to and from the Chivers Jam factory which forms part of the layout.

  6. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I number of things I had not really thought about. The desgin will have to change give some really good points made.

I'm quite keen to keep this as low tech as possible, so think i will start to look at the mirror and the reversing camera first before I think about more costly DCC options!

    All very helpful

  7. I am working on a design for a new layout.

One of the options would be for the fiddle Yard to be completely hidden from the operators view.

So I would need to have some way of knowing which train was in which fiddle yard siding and which route was set.

Would be interested to hear how others have solved this problem and what they have found worked well.

    Thanks

  9. Been a while… but after much fiddling about the bridge on the right of the layout now fits in its space.  I couldn’t get it to work until I pushed the pub to the back.

Took inspection from the famous ‘Persil’ shot from George Stokes.

More work to do to bed it in and put more detail on - like a chimney on the pub - the Dinsdale Arms I think!

  11. I picked up a Mike’s Models Victorian gents kits form the rummage box at a local show for £2 !  I’ve never done any soldering of white metal before so would welcome some advice.

Any general advice would be welcome. But some specific question I can think of are:-

    1. What temperature should my soldering iron be set at. I’ve one where you can vary the temperature.

    2. what sort of solder should I use.

    3. I assume I need to Use flux - again any advice.

Also any tips etc and things to avoid.

    Would welcome advice

    Best Wishes

One of the first locomotives built for Diddington was an Ivatt 2mt from a Comet kit. Then the Bachman one came along…. The kit built one is still with us, but was in need of a repaint, so here it is, outshopped as 46465 in plain black. DDA048C1-FA5E-41A1-AEFB-D4CCD7016BAE.jpeg.60a1a577975038c8fd54567f0e4a5525.jpeg1102AFDA-F07D-46CF-ACDF-28449354613A.jpeg.4dbaaaeb85a35d3ccab9af3c37c35b51.jpeg

Really like that! I always thought that the 2MT suited unlined black. All very nice.

Most wagon weighbridges with FB rail are either bolted through the flange into the deck or the bolts are beside the rail with girder clips pulling down on the lower flange.

Looking at your building, it's relatively modern. If mechanical, a large (àbout 3 feet) round dial on a pillar visible from the window, or if electronic, a box about 18"" square facing the operator with a basic digital readout.

Some form of heating, a desk, noticeboard, brew facilities and probably not much else!

Thanks the very helpful - There are very few pics on the internet Ive been able to find and none of the inside of a weightbridge office. So these are helpful. BW DC
