  1. Hey!

Does anyone know when the Dapol 86s are out? I've been waiting for around a year and I hope they're out soon. Also does anyone know if they are fitting more realistic pantographs to them? The ones fitted on graham garish locos are pretty unrealistic and I would like the sort some of the 86s and all the 90/91s are equiped with.

    Thanks :)

I'd also like to see a working 2mm scale Highspeed pan.... ;)

  2. If you consider that a large amount of CoT will end up in display cases, why bother fitting a chip? So long as the loco has a DCC socket its fine for collectors and allows the DCC iser to install their own preference of chip

Has anyone fitted a SWD 2-cylinder GWR chip yet...?

  3. I'd guess at NRM having control over the tooling etc for a specified period of time, then I assume Bachmann would be given a certain degree of licence to produce similar models (but not CoT of course!)

    Just a guess.

It'd make sense for a royality from each model to be paid to the NRM, just as long as Bachmann could be persuaded they'd be viable. There is also the issue of the cost, although others think it's pricey I think ??150 is quite a bargain for something with such a complicated finish, but could the market stand a three-figure sum for what would essentially be a small tender loco with black frames and simple lining...?

  4. There are two bumps on the keeper plate as if to clear a gear wheel on each axle. I wondered at first if this was to take the burdon off the rods. It's intrigueing because I would have thought there would need to be some slip in the drive to prevent 'wind-up'.

The Bachmann GE 45 ton Switcher also has the same arrangement of rods and gears.

  5. How could you suggest such a thing :P :P

    Weather....No.

    Sound decoder in the tender....maybe.

Upset the collectors by adding the detailing bits, electrification flashes, TPWS, OTMR, etc... :D

I might even do a James May and throw the box away. Hang On, I could put that old Airfix model in it, and do an Aldo on eBay.....

  6. That front coupling has got to go.

    It already has...

I've not tried opening the smokebox door yet, and don't intend to. I'd rather have paid a few quid less and not had such a frivolity. I've not looked through the detailing bits for it, is the TPWS kit in there...?

  7. Mine also arrived today...... :D

I couldn't help myself, and had to compare it to the Kitbuilding attempt I tried aged 12....:

I think my kitbuilding efforts have moved on since(?) Here's CoT with 298, as seen in the current Model Railroader..:

Which begs the obvious question, if the NRM are to continue with these limited editions, will the next candidate also be a popular model that many people tried building from the Kitmaster range but has previously been unavailable as a RTR model...?

  8. Actually 250 at ??195 is being made. Like Deltic, there is no limit on production of the standard model (??145 I think).

The model comes with a replacement front bogie for detail, and a few other extras as well as being supremely detailed. ??145 isn't too far out of the range of the latest Hornby Clans RRP, after all, though these have sold for less than their RRP if you shop around.

Like the Hornby Teak Gresleys, you have to pay alot for the complexities of the paint finish on top of the new tooling, so the price is justifiable. And prior to this model, if someone really wanted a City they's probably have to pay alot more for the basic Airfix kit to be reworked to this standard. I seem to recall there was a a kitbuilt (Airfix or Nu-Cast) one on here for a comparable price. It's was always going to be an expensive loco.

Maybe in later years they might do a small run of a different City with simple lining and black frames, for less than ??100....?

  9. I think so Jim.There was no official announcemment on them doing it.So whats next ? Lode Star ;)

OK, so they've done a Diesel, and a Steam loco.... Something with a pantograph, anyone...?

The 76 keeps being mentioned, but I have a pre-started Judith Edge ES1 in the cupboard. And I was right about City of Truro...

  10. I have 7 alcos so far, and planning on a few more, Where I live there is only one Alco left, it on the end of the county line part of a preservation line.

Where's that...? I've only seen the one in Snoqualmie.

I have a couple of SP&S boxcars, as i'm rather partial to boxcars from the Pacific Northwest:
