  1. I acquired a Unimat a couple of years ago and have even started to use it. I have done some little household jobs and must really learn how to use it including the milling attachment. I suspect that I'm going to need it on future projects. Jamie
  2. I will look forward to that Dave. Yes I agree with you about Uncle T. As I remember the problem was that he now has to share his supplies. Good luck Thursday. Jamie
  3. Looking at them again they do look like Ipswich. Thanks yet again. Jamie
  4. Good evening, it's got dark early. I wonder why. We are still in East Anglia and as the previous photo was identified as Great Yarmouth, I suspect that this is also at Yarmouth but looking west. Later the same day a trio of 20's off RHTT duties at I think Stowmarket. Then a 57 at what could be Ely according to the rail atlas. Then we move forward to 20th January 2007 and 45407 only 2 miles from home climbing past Cottingley towards Morley having just crossed Elland Road. This is the Leeds Bradford residential which ran from Milton Keynes to Manchester Bradford and Leeds then back to Manchester and MK according to 6 Bells Junction. Then a day at Donny with a 66 heading south across the crossovers. And then the Test Train coming in from the north. Hopefully some more tomorrow. Jamie
  5. Games periods were purgatory for me. Despite my mother being a games and PE teacher and my father a competent tennis player, I have no ball sense and am useless at all such sports. I also have slow twitch muscles so can't sprint for toffee. As others have said prowess at games, particularly Rugby Union, the other sort was not spoken about, was on par with religion. I was also in the 3rd 15 each Tuesday and Thursday and hated it with no meaningful coaching. On Saturdays, if the school was playing another school, then we were forced to watch the match. This involved standing on a banking overlooking the pitch with the prevaling wind and rain freezing us. Cricket was as bad and we had to watch till 4.30pm on Saturdays but that got better as I became a scorer because I was bored. Relief arrived when I got into the 6th form and I was allowed to opt out of Rugby as long as I did a 4.5 mile cross country. I got very fit in the end and could get back, be showered and changed long before the bullies from the Rugby team got to the changing room. That was a result. I then damaged my ankle and couldn't do long runs but took up,cycling which has been a lifelong pleasure. Jamir
  6. Must have been in it's time at Kingmoor then. However I've now had another look at the photo and it has a BR1C tender so that confirms Kingmoor. As to the banker, they weren't generally used anywhere southbound as the northern approach to Shap is much better graded than the southern approach with it's 4 miles of 1 in 75 that was only meant to be temporary until a tunnel could be built. Jamie
  7. Or even one in South Western France. Afriend has, however, just discovered a shop catering to the model car trade about 25 miles away. Apparently it has a very good range of Humbrol and Tamiya paints plus things such as brushes. It is due to get a visit and there is a main line station nearby so I might just have to watch a few trains as well. Jamie
  8. Good morning. It's still dark outside, just, but thanks to the clock change it soon won't be. It is due to rain much of the day but that may be a figment of a seaweed twirlers imagination. Another patch of the shed floor was cleared, swept then sealed yesterday. Approx 37sq mts. Various piles of debris were moved and disposed of. I finally found a lost mose trap, complete with it's intended victim. I'd forgotten where that one had been placed. Anyway, if the rain does arrive I know what I'll be doing for an hour or so this afternoon, painting. The market beckons this morning, apart from that, not a lot. Regards to all. Jamie
  9. Thanks for those corrections. Now that Gloucester has been mentioned I recognise it. I will amend my records. I must have been changi g therd to catch a train to Swindon. Jamie
  10. I must introduce you to Monsieur Balluet's finest. Not at all like the rubbish that the big 3 overcharge for. It needs serious study. Uncle T has a complaint about it though. It's so nice his Mrs likes it as well. Jamie
  11. Does that mean that my adopted team won then Richard. I'll just gave to have a Balluet's cognac to celebrate. The Cock must be crowing. Jamie
  12. Thanks very much to both of you and particularly Bill. I presume that it was taken when the loco was still allocated to the Western Region. A pring or file of the scan would be very much appreciated. I think that my modelling skills may have advanced slightly in the 25 years since I bought my first 0 Gauge loco kit. It's in the box so in due course it will run. I just need to make 16 anhydrite hoppers for which there is no kit, but I have a drawing. No modelling today but time was spent in the shed. Another 35 or so aq metres of floor were cleared and sealed. Hopefully tomorrow afternoon they will get painted. However as the section that I've cleared contains both the door and the entrance to the modelling room I won't be able to reach the brnch till it's dry. Jamie
  13. Thanks for those two corrections,. Thst means that Swindon was on 15th November when I did Standish Junction to Swindon. And thecEastcAnglia ones were on 21st November when I completed page 46. Thanks. Jamie
  14. Good afternoon. It's still 2006 and we start with another trip south. We went down to near Windsor to visit our son who was stationed there. I think this is Windsor and Eton Riverside. Then three where I'm not sure of the location but think it could be Swindon where a 60 heads through with steel empties. The a 59 appeared with a stone train. Followed by an HST accelerating away. Next we are definitely in East Anglia and a 170 and 156 at Norwich. it's 6th July. Then out to what I think is Felixstowe from Ipswich. That day ticked off two more pages. Jamie
  15. Those photos bring back memories of Portland and Seattle in 78 when I was on my trip round by train. That leads onto Heidi but I've mislaid her photo by some strange coincidence. Jamie
  16. Yes IIRC most of the route already exists from Webridge to Staines and there is some sort of provision for it under Terminal 5. The inhabitants of Egham, in particular scupperred it. Jamie
  17. And if left to nature would very soon be full of silver birch and rose bay willow herb. Jamie
  18. Good moaning to all. Chrisf good luck in your search for an alternative lifestyle over the festive season. It's damp here but not raining at the moment. Yesterday several small tasks were completed. Today in a couple of minutes we'll be talking to Emily and her Mums. That will definitely brighten up the day despite the grey clouds. The ironing awaits after that and I need to go and give a pool robot it's weekly exercise. I may even clear some more of the shed floor ready for painting. Regards to all. Jamie
  19. Having googled it, that is one impressive piece of machinery and I'm glad that the city is looking after it. That doesn't always happen. In 1978 I was fortunate enough to be able to wander round 6060 in Spadina Avenue roundhouse. I suspect that though it could be moved carefully by rail, it's the mountain of paperwork and the cost of insurance that would put the mockers on such a fabulous bit of PR. I know UP did an awful lot of work on the bearings and suspension of 4014 before it was first moved from it's resting place in Pomona. I look forward to pictures in due course. At least they have employed a reputable contractor. Mammoet seem to know what they are doing. Jamie
  20. I'm actually quite surprised at you going down the rtr route Tony, when a decent kit and chassis are available. You'll be going DCC next. Jamie
  21. A surprising number are now serving what is known as a whole life tarrif and will only leave in a box. Back to railways, quite a while ago two idiots got agrieved with the Ratty for some reason and dumped a bag of track spikes between the rails. They then gotbon a yacht and sailed down the coast. They were arrested at Millom and werecrather surprised to appear at Carlisle Crown Court charged with endangering life on the railway. They drew a few years each. Fortunately the next train up the line was able to stop in time. Jamie
  22. I also remember that day well, listening to the news at lunchtime at school. I got the Times delivered to school ( some sort of special offer) and couldn't stop reading about it next morning and looking at the awful pictures. Many years later I rode the train to Merthyr for the first time and both me and my mate went quiet when we saw the cemetry across the valley. Jamie
  23. Hence the emphasis on moving the soil and ground cover to try and maintain the ecosystem. Jamie
  24. There is a Youtube vieo about that. Apparently the had a spevial unit that could do inflight refuelling to get the range, but the Yanks insited thst their aircraft had to be used. A new batch of B29's was built without the wing spar through the bomb bay. There were production delays and it was a close run thing as to whether the bonb or the bomber would be ready first. Jamie
  25. Having gone back to the original article. The Railway offences would definitely have carried the most serious sentence, which I think carries life. Jamie
