  1. When questioned how many fires have been caused by tinsel, the answer was.."well none..but it could" They had heard about it from another council.

See this is where I get Angry. BTW I do Safety Audits for a living and the BIGGEST mistake public bodies always make it what you have just described. Risk is a balance of likelihood and consequence, if the likelihood is 1/5 but the consequence is 5/5 the overall risk is 5/25... Negligible!

Alot of things could happen, I could get run over by a bus but its not likely so I continue to cross the road.

You'll probably find the Other council had just heard about it from another council, ad-infinitum.

Monday I'll be back trying to educate people how to actually do their jobs free from Persecution, listening to people say "can I actually do that? - yes you can".

  2. go back pre-privatisation and you can use them in very short rakes loaded with Aluminium on the WHL

Which is what I would fancy doing, getting good shots of the 30ft freightliner flats for the ingots is not easy now that fotopic has gone.

  3. Would that be a Bachmann Mk2 TSO in blue and grey by any chance? :drinks: I bought one very late last night at a very reasonable price, I would much rather my money went to someone genuinely selling an item rather than deliberately profiteering, they have an honest sale, I have the item I want at a sensible price.

Besides there is no way I or indeed anyone should if they had any sense should be paying more than 5% on original shop selling price on many items, of course EBay now seems to be a quagmire of those with more money than sense...

    wink.gif do unto others... etc...

  4. I think this would come under the heading EBay madness....

I have just listed some coaches which I need to sell rather sharpish to generate some funds. So as I payed much less than average for them in the first place, I'm not one for profiteering and I'm in a hurry I put them on at what some would describe as a bargain. You can imagine my surprise when I received this email...

"hi the coach you just sold on a buy it now, you sold at about half its value, its worth at least £25 they are going for £30 lateley sometimes £40 check the completed listings, you could always cancel the sale saying you listed it as buy it now in error and do an auction to get the fair price, good luck"

Not that I would ever consider doing anything like this, but the last bit I've underlined struck me as a bit devious.

I'm sitting here still suprised this would be suggested to me.

  5. Hi Daddyman,

Sorry - the impression you have is not correct.

Hornby have done a correct version of the OTA.

There was a good number of refurbed 'Angled End' OTA's that had the newer type stanchions.

At this point I would have pointed you to Paul Bartletts' Fotopic for reference, but...

I can't see them on his new site yet.

Then again - reloading the number of galleries and photos he had is a monster task!

No doubt they will appear soon enough.

    Some numbers from observation...

    110324

    110420

    110149

    110211

    110292

    110324

    110420

    110610

If Mark Westmacott is watching this thead - he has photos if I remember correctly.

    Thanks

ps - If you have photos at Crianlarich between 2001 and 2003 you should have some photos? I have some shots from 2002 that show as modelled.

    Phil,

Just checked and the ones I have are the 200xxx series as in my earlier postings on here and the top one that Arran just put up.

I would say that nearly all I photo'd when I worked in Inverurie were the ex VDA with these stanchions. The Hornby one is correct but maybe not as common as the 112xxx series with the square section stanchions, which I think will be future Hornby ones.

For some reason I found more of the 112xxx type on the West Highland and the 200xxx in the North East. Whatever your location is will give you a different opinion of what is "right' and "wrong" with various releases.

Both types can still be seen on the satellite image of the siding off Mossend Yard, ( to the south east parallel to Holytown road) Next time I'm there I'll see whats about... maybe just a pile of rust now

  6. Hi Ian,

Correct - these wagons are a minefield!

I made a start some time ago trying to sort and split the various types and what they were converted from etc.

Yes - the straight topped end ones were originally OCA.

Yes - most (that survived long enough) had rebuilt high ends.

However I have some gaps in the numbers where I don't know, can't find out or were no longer listed and these may or may not have been given new or extended ends.

However, I'm hoping to get something in UPDate at some stage.

    Thanks

    Phil

Most of the OTA's that were dumped out the back of Guild Street Aberdeen, Inverurie and Elgin were the ex-VDA conversions, as shown previously complete with jaggy edges at the ends.

  7. Hi everyone,

at Warley we announced (rather quietly it seems:rolleyes: ) scale N and OO gauge pantographs.

    Here is a press release:

With our growing dissatisfaction in N gauge pantographs for UK outline models, Dapol have decided to ‘go it alone’ and produce scale N gauge pantographs of both the Brecknell-Willis and Stone Faiveley types for our future class 86 electric locomotive releases and for other models that we are in the planning stages for.

These pantographs will be available separately and have fine etched steel heads, and are easily fitted by customers to upgrade their existing class 86 models. (Please note they will be available separately via the Dapol website as spares (price TBA.)

Dapol are also pleased to announce that we are to manufacture (in line with our expanding OO catenary range) the same 2 types of Pantograph in OO gauge.

However as indicative with the increase in scale we will be adding further details to the models, and hope to have only minor compatibility issues that the modeller should easily be able to change.

Details of our expanding range of OO gauge catenary will be in our 2011 catalogue which will also include our newly announced ‘H’ section 2-4 track gantry kit.

As you can see this is the 2 pictures of the completed cad/cam (unless we have missed off something glaring) and i'd appreciate comments regarding them.

Also do any of you have any thoughts on the OO versions (features, details required etc)

Please donrt mail me directly as we are undergoing a server and computer systems change, but please (with the moderators permission of course) feel free to post here for both gauges.

As always cheers (and festive greetings):D

    Dave

    Dave,

Depending on capabilities for N and OO, have a look here - http://www.old-dalby.com/HSCCP.htm Second pic in the section dynamic tests shows detail of the Head on the Stone Faively AMBR one, I was looking particularly at the "droppers" from where the hinge of the frame meets the head.

  8. Thats my Blue 86 arrived and as has been said earlier generally I'm very pleased.

The flexicoils I can live with but I'll really need to do some work on the pan' The bottom arm doesn't move, and still doesn't move after loosening the mounting screw.

I think the link between the base and the upper arm needs to be shortened to allow the both halves of the pan to move somewhere closer to symmetrical.

Hopefully I wont break this in the process or its an order to BEC kits for a replacement.

If I succeed I'll let you all know

  9. Given previous comments about the pantograph, one of my first tasks would be to try to create some sort of 'cats cradle' frame for the pantograph. Thats unless anybody out there who likes to produce etches, fancies having a go at this one using the frame supplied with the Howes/Sommerfeldt pan as a scaled template?

    Anybody?

  10. Hi Gang;

Any news on when this is hitting the streets. It has been awfully quiet recently.

Sharing the concerns ref the pantograph. Will judge properly when 86241 arrives!!!

    Later;

    STU from EGDL

Likewise I am Waiting for 86241, from looking at these photos my first thought would be to try to add some sort of 6 leg bracing frame as per the real Faively Panto.

This looks like a sommerfeldt 967 but should look more like the 968 that Howes supply.

  11. Just as I moan about Hornby's choice of Chassis.. Bachmann go and announce the VDA conversion OTA. I wonder if there are any other fates I can tempt!!.

This is what we used to see up here on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line when timber actually went by Rail.

  12. I would have thought Hornby will only want to do 1 chassis & work the variations on that - the fact that Bachmann already do the VDA would put Hornby off?

Yup they probably thought that us lot would be right out with the blades ready to hack away if we wanted a different one.

  13. This looks promising.

I wonder if this will be the only version or if there are plans for the VDA cut down OTA's, with the fishbelly underframe, round top ends and prototypical sharp edgeds where the sides were hacked off. If not I'll just do that same job on a Bachmann VDA.

  14. Stretched Bachy TTA maybe?? Not the same by any means but it would get you a straight tank with leaf spring suspension!

Cheers Martyn that sounds like a good starting point, with a straight barrel and TPM walkways and ladders,

Found this one in the last page of the PCA section, http://ukrailrollingstock.fotopic.net/p45866005.html BAHS55553 this gives a lot of useful info.

These are the ones I regularly see when I'm out walking using Rannoch station as a base, but somehow they are never in the loop when I'm waiting to go north

  15. I had a look at scratch building the Metalair BAHSxxxxx PCA back in October. Just for something different to do. Couldn't figure out what a decent underframe donor would be as this is obviously a different u/f to the standard PCA's. And unless I'm mistaken the article on the PAB's that Phil mentioned is in the files section of the scottish modellers yahoo groups.
