Very accurately depicted. I remember that the road to Durango from Albuquerque follows the old line for a while, and a few miles out of town it passes an abandoned water tower that looks exactly like that one.
This is actually the Needleton water tank on the D&S.

Nah, I have air cleaning system in the layout room.

Amount of heat required? Try assembling a Kemtron ALCo RS-3.
A lot!
Mostly with a mini torch.
I have a Kemtron C16 kit, and that one is also thick!

Test drive of the newest addition to the fleet. A brass Westside models K-27 in HOn3. I have painted and weathered it as well as installed a sound decoder. The decoder is a Loksound V4. Some adjustments remain to be done, but after the auto tuning, the motor works well.

I'm ready to install sound in my K27.
Unfortunately the Soundtraxx Econami 100 isn't currently available.
When searching my own stash, I found a Loksound V4 micro though...
I have just downloaded the latest sound for the K27, and my God what a lot of sounds and functions!
This might actually be very good.

Fantastic work. Will you be incorporating some of the buildings/dioramas on the layout?
Thanks, some of them will be, but some of them has been sold off.
I had an art showing where I had a few dioramas exhibited. They sold very well...

Thanks, I have had my fair share of bad environment to build the layout in...
Considering the cost of building a layout, then the cost of renovating is miniscule.
I've kept record of expenses, and with the new insulated walls, trimmings, new door, new wiring, carpet and paint, the total is £500.
Not so very expensive.

Thanks Chris. I will have to search the books for some inspiration about the gutters.
Here's a pic of the mill outside in the sun:

Thanks!
Here is the peeling paint method which is actually very easy.
Before construction begins, I take the stripwood and give them a good brushing lengthwise with a steel wire brush.
Then I brush on a stain that is made from alcohol, india ink, white ink and brown acrylic paint.
Try it on scrap wood first to try the colour and strength of it.
It is good practice to brush it on instead of soaking it as it gives more variety in the different planks.
Let dry!
The next step is to give the planks a quick rub with fine steel wool to remove the fuzz.
Now, take two small cups. One with low odour turpentine, and one with white water based paint. I use Vallejo water based polyurethane.
Lay out the wood on a paper and soak one plank with turpentine and then directly(!) brush on white paint.
The paint will pearl up if enough turp is in the wood.
Then brush it lengthwise and you will see how it will start to settle at the surface.
Stop brushing when it looks right!
Then drag the brush along the edges of the plank to remove unnecessary paint build up.
Finished!

No no no... maximum grade is 3.5%.
And that is on the bottom loop.
The layout is 4.5 x 6.6 meters. So if you measure most elevations, they are 2%.

Yes, it is 10.5 mm.

Thanks! I hoped to give it some likeness. :-)

Another touched up version, with all the quirks removed.....
-
I have made a "small" change on the plan:
feels much more complete...

I think you're right that there is some catching up to do for European and UK RTR compared with the US RTR.....
I will see how the timing will be, the date for moving was moved forward a few weeks due to the living arrangement of the previous owners, so now I have some more time to spend.....

Here is my latest painting:
Again inspired by a picture of K. Burkholder.
Acrylic on canvas, on a 8" x 8" 3D-frame (painted on the sides as well).

This is how it looked before, the area to the right in the picture:

These are from a Mfg in Sweden named "Perl".
They are to be released again soon is what I've heard :-)

Really nice pics of the Live steamers, I wish I still had my Aster steamers whenever I see Live steam locos...
Really cool sketch of the layout! It will be fun seeing the progress of the build.
-
Thanks, that means a lot to me
To depict a believable US layout when living an ocean away, isn´t the easiest thing, and then to inspire someone else makes it all so worthwhile.
-
Thanks, I added a period photo as well .

Thanks !
I think it´s getting there... I am now in the process of adding the details in all the scenes, it will take a LOOOONG time.

Thanks! It's not my primary job, I work mostly in the cultural history field.
