Thanks ever so much Cav! I may well fit sound at a later date, for now doing the economy option! I’ve just put in an order at DC Kits for the 59619s, and look forward to getting the beasties going!

    Cheers,

    James

One for Cav, and I apologise if I'm being slow joining the dots on this.  I'm a DCC ready purchaser and, to be honest, I'd never thought about what DCC Chip restrictions there maybe when I ordered them or whilst waiting.  There's been mention of getting DCC Chips configured for the multiple lighting configurations but then a recommendation to James on the LokoPilot 59619?  Will the 59619 'plug and play' all lighting options or do I need to wait for the CAVALEX mentored on?  I've got spare chips to just get them running in the short term and I've zero plans for sound as it agitates my tinnitus. SO . . .  get the 59619 now or wait for the bespoke CAVALEX one?

As an aside, gents (Cav Alex) you should be incredible proud of what you have achieved.  Looks great, colour pallet looks spot on and impressive packaging.  One of the things I've often chatted about with fellow enthusiast is my frustration in quality control and spares support.  Were a million miles away from the the Hornby / Lima (with a total of 25 constructed parts) 'Toy' trains of the past, to these high quality items of miniature engineering.  The packaging immediately struck me of being commensurate with an item of "miniature engineering" and not a toy.

I look forward to participating in the brand growth (as a customer) in the future :-)  Cough PWA Pallet Vans

Theres a little pack of brake rigging and pipes, possibly 3 link couplings (Fran?) A leaflet with info on the prototype and an exploded diagram.

A cracking model, the underframe detail is incredible. Not sure the tension lock couplings are warranted to be spring operated unless its for 1st radi curves ?  One  of my order was missing the info sheet and detail pack, but I'll deal with that. When I did see the info-sheet and detailing pack there's no actual description of why there's a second set or brake-rigging.  I'm assuming for EM or P4 use.  There are brake hoses in the detailing pack, but no guidance on where they go (Flickr will provide the answers) . No holes on the buffer beam for brake pipes, albeit there are some tiny ones facing down on the underside of the coupling mechanism.

Overall 9/10. Better info-pack would have taken it to 10/10.

A little project for the Xmas period was to partially repaint my Metals Sector BAA’s so they matched my Cavalex BLA Coil wagons.  Just have to TCut out the sector markings and a couple of Railfreight logos on the BLA’s, then they will be of for Weathering.

Sorry - the pictures are really too small to appreciate what you're showing us what you've done.

  4. Hi Nick

I used to pass this location every day on my way to school. Almost anything could be found shunted in there but predominantly is was engineering wagons getting attention (wheel changes etc) and the small she crane was often used (buffer changes etc.)  I do remember seeing a turbot there once on jacks with a bogie out for replacement. You could even get away with the 05 "Cider Queen " making an appearance.

  5. Thanks Nigel. The 5 hour 'recharge' didn't work and I've got a new battery arriving tomorrow. The handset touch pad needs a clean as well, so I'll have them both open I'll guess. I think I forget I bought this system back in 2004 - so it's done really well to survive all these years.  Thanks for the reply.

  6. Just to close the loop on this one.  Somehow the loco ID was set in two handsets at the same time.  So when handset A was trying to drive the train, it was already set at 20% speed on handset B,  although the loco was not moving.

I've subsequently had this with non sound fitted DCC locos. Somehow the loco ID had not 'stealed' from one handset to the other. 1 loco. Handset 1 set at 20% Handset 2 set at 40%. Loco goes at 40% for 2/3 of the loop then 20% for another 2/3 then back to 40%.  Delete loco ID from 1 Handset and loco operates at 1 speed.

Hopefully they are upgrading the 56 due to the upcoming competition (Cavalex and the Bachmann 69). Hornby have said they are upgrading their HST due to (as yet unannounced) competition so I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking at their other models too.

Adding servo operated roof fans, flush fan grills, improving lighting functions and using the 21 pin socket (as used on their sound fitted versions) would be easy improvements to start with.

My guess is that the crazy - bonkers decision to release the marginal interest Floyd livery has resulted in a glut of unsold 56's with retailers. Accordingly they've delayed the production of other Class 56 to free up production slots for other items.  Meanwhile, Cavalex will roll out the liveries that Modellers have been wanting but Hornby ignored: Original railfreight Grey, BR Blue etc.

Surely the point is that they shouldn't have been visiting a household that was isolating?

    Not much sympathy here!

    Jon

Depends John.  Equally plausible scenario is visiting friends for tea and catch up; 30 mins after arrival.  Oh How's (Child X?)  They're upstairs isolating with Covid !!!   Yes some people are that . . . . .  . !!

Friends of mine got 'pinged'. They had been visiting friends whose daughter was isolating. The daughter was upstairs in her bedroom, they were downstairs in the lounge and they did not meet, but the app decided they were close enough to be contacts. Cost them a few days pay from work.

I know quite a few people who have switched off the app because of false alerts.

    Graham

Yeah we've all heard the story of the the neighbours, phone on bedside table, either side of a party wall, one Covid the other getting pinged due proximity with ZERO chance of infection.  More fool them for actually having their phone upstairs - god forbid my employer can get hold of me that easy when I'm resting :-)

  10. Used to use Lenz - Class 60 TTS worked a treat.  I have moved to Digitrax (Fed up with the Lenz controller buttons not working) and the 60 sound is permanently on but the loop bit of the high engine sound.  I can start and drive the engine with the correct engine sounds masked by the looped high rev engine.

Anyone experienced this before?  I can't get the sound to go off :-(

Excellent news. A very welcome addition to the fleet.

Between Accurascale, Cavalex and RevolutioN these three are demolishing my bank account.

    Thanks guys.

100 % agree.  But also puts some the 'big' manufacturers to shame displaying how their complacency on pushing out the same 1960s tooling time and time again, vice keeping up with development and bringing exciting new models to market, will contribute to their declining influence in the hobby.

How long have we been waiting for a headcode box 31/4 with central headlight.... and here we’ve got it by accident... just in the wrong /livery / number, plenty of happy options...

it could be renumbered as  31435/66/68 31519/24/26/30/31/33/52/56/63, or the well known 31541  probably more.

if they forget to print the nameplate on i’ll be even happier... 31530 Sister Dora is my first thought, for 5 RRNW mk2’s.

The attention to detail is right off the "Oooops the cleaner did it" school of thinking :-)

  13. Afternoon all.   After the best part of a decade in this hobby, i have found that new purchase diesels are hit and miss regarding wobbly wheelsets; across all brands.  Now this is something I am quite a pedant about, 126 tons doesn't wobble.  I've used back to back gauges with hand pressure, back to back gauges within a vice (to guarantee 90 deg from axle alignment), removal and reinsertion of the plastic bushes and mix and matching axles with different wheels.  Within all of this I am able to correct 1/2 / 3/4 of poorly seated wheels but it does leave me with some that, to me, and incurable.  Before I consider purchasing additional ones, I thought I ask you geniuses out there for your tricks and fixes that you have conjured up over the years; you may just save me the cost of 2 full Class 66 wheelsets.  Thanks guys

I’m thinking of improving the digger with some surgery to add a clam shell bucket loady thing as would be used in reality and I’ve got some 0.5mm wire to make hydraulic runs - we’ll see if my enthusiasm wins or my can’t be arsed nature kicks in !

View under the bridge is probably my favourite angle. Thoughts are already turning to the next plank which will be “ West Country “, I want water , bridges, cream teas ....and sheds again....

That's an interesting idea, and would possibly be an easier route to a flush tank, but one of the nicer bits of the Bachmann tank moulding is the riveted angle iron supports at the bottom - and you'd lose them!

    No easy answer, I fear.

    Hi Rick

You can get then flush. Glue together, milliput and sand away.  Awaiting the mojo to hash together an etch for the doors - these have been a EIP for a while. M
