Hi Kal & Jaz
Apologies for only just finding your thread. How did I miss this?
Having read Kal's introduction of "If you are expecting this layout to match the fantastic standard of some of the layouts, such as I see on here and in magazines, then this thread is probably not for you." And "For some, the results may be a blight on the landscape, and we accept that, but for us it is more about the journey, than the destination." I thought this sounds like a good basic layout from a couple of new starters and it might not make my layout look total rubbish.
You then proceed to post photos of an absolutely amazing layout that is superbly detailed and looks like it has taken 10-15 years to create. Your work is outstanding and I just love the fact that you don't take it too seriously, with the reference to the TV & film sets. I am loving the Harry Potter references as we have just returned from a family visit to the Harry Potter Studio tour at Leavesden.
Great work guys and I look forward to seeing your future updates, even if they do make me want to throw the towel in and give up! lol

Great pics. Everything looks so realistic, I had to do a double take when I first looked.

Fantastic work James. I'm loving your step by step guides.
I hope to get to see Loftus Road in the flesh one of these days.

I don't know how I have missed your thread before Jim, but I have just sat and read through it all. It looks superb so far. Very impressed with with the shed and your woodworking skills. I love the simplicity of the lift out section at the door.
Looking forward to seeing your progress on this. Meanwhile I'm off to measure the garden to see if I can fit another shed in!

The helix and the layout as a whole looks great Phil.
Good find with the LEDs too. They are a bargain buy. Just trying to think of an excuse to buy some!

Tracksetta is what you need .
Exactly what I was going to say. I have some tracksetta gauges and they work really well. Only about a fiver to buy.

Looking good Phil. Why not use Peco SL-100 flexi track for the fourth radius curves? £64 for 25 yards at Hattons.

Nice carpentry skills Phil, but I wouldn't trust that cat! lol

How's the budget for a Heljan crane or two?

OMG Phil. I can't believe you have chopped it up, but the new space does look great.
Good luck with the rebuild.

Sounds like an interesting idea Phil. I think that most of us have thought about a helix or two at some point. I was considering them in my loft when I started Chadwood but I didn't really have a clue what I was doing. Now you have planted the seeds in my head again i may have to start thinking about it again!
Good luck with planning permission from the wife council.

Only just found your layout thread Iain and, although it really is not my era at all, it has been an interesting read. I love your big shed. That's given me ideas for future years! Your track building looks great and your ballasting is spot on. Then to top it off you scratch build that girder bridge in just an hour and a half? That would take me a year and a half!
Great work and I am looking forward to your updates.

Any chance the mother-in-law could scratch build me a shed for First Avenue?
Oh well, worth a try.

I read this wrong at first and thought it said "Many people are limited by their fiances as well" and I thought how true.
What a difference a letter makes! lol
