    I have come to the conclusion that double yellow lines on the roads around here are purely for decorative purposes only....

      I've long thought that their main purpose is to denote parking places outside takeaway food shops.

      Our local council declined to place Double Yellows to prevent school-run mumsies from parking in unsuitable/dangerous areas because "they would cost too much to enforce".
