  1. Hi All Well I have started work on building the stills inside Glen Gillie Distillery. Photos to follow. I am also altering the inside lights that I had fitted bu not connected up to Light house LED's as they give for better light inside the buildings, see the power station on Bridge of Muir.. Work has also started on the building of the new control panel which will operate all the points on Glen Gillie & Loch inch insead of the two panels. Paul is sorting out the Power districts ready to srip out all the DC cableing and replacement with a new DCC bus bar. Will keep you all informed but please add some comments to the site. Peter
  2. Hi All Here are the trophies that I won at the last two shows. Bonnybridge show The first shot is the shield for the best scenics layout voted by the public and the Fraser cup voted by the exhibitors and traders at the show for the best layout. The Hornby great Electric show. The cup voted by the visitors as the best layout in show. peter
  3. Hi All Here are a few more shots taken at the show the other weekend. Peter
  4. Hi All Well I am back on the main system after the storm the other week that knocked out the phones and the router. so I can now get to my photos. So here are a few shots of glen Gillie taken at the Great Electric Train Show last weekend. Will take a shot of the trophies won at the last two shows and post that.ASAP. Peter
  5. Hi Andy Thanks for the comments.. Yes it ran very well apart from the dent in the rail leading into the main line fiddle yard at Glen Gillie end. Work will now start in the next few weeks on the conversion from DC to DCC. I am going to keep the points seperate as they are now operated by the stud and probe but there will now be a only one panel. All the section switches will be removed . Most of the electric uncouplers will also be replaced with magnets for the Kadee couplings. Also it is hoped that a printed back scene will be installed as well. Peter
  6. Hi All Well I have just arrived back with Glen Gillie & Loch Inch from the Hornby Great Electric Train show at the weekend.and we won thw Visitor's Cup voted by the publlic for the best layout at the show, That three items of silver ware for the two layouts in one week. The layout worked great other than the exit from the down fiddle yard where one of the rails most have fallen onto it and dented it. thus most of the stock came off. After a little work with the solder iron we managed to get it resonable for the stock. A great time was had and a big thank you to Mike Wild and all the Hornby team for a great show. Peter
  7. Hi All Well Glen Gillie is all packed up in the van ready for the trip tomorrow to the Hornby Great Electric Train Show this weekend at the National Car Museum. See if I can take some better shots than I took at Bonnybridge. Peter
  8. The cup is the Fraser Cup voted for the best layout chosen by the exhibitors and traders at the show. The shield is the one that I won last year for Glen Gillie and is awarded for the best scenics on a layout. Peter
  9. Hi All Well got back at 4.00pm after a 7.5hour run back from Scotland in pouring rain and high winds.. Anyway a great bid thank you to all the lads and Bruce at Bonnybridge for such a great show. As you have heard I won two more items of silver ware. Will take photo when we have unpacked. In the mean time a few shots of the layout at the show. They have come out with a tint of yellow about them , must have had the settings wrong for the lighting. Will add a few more in the next day or so. Peter
  10. Hi All Well van packed with Bridge of Muir ready for the long drive (about 6-7 hours. We are not Ton up lads) up to Bonnybridge tomorrow. Only my bag to put in then pick up Richard at Chester then Paul at Wigan . Hope to see many of you there. Peter
  11. Hi All Well two shots of the layout. One of the station and the other of the notice board. All down and ready to load into the van on Thursday ready for the trip north on Friday Just sorting out a further few items of stock . After Thursday Wendy can have the Dining room and lounge back after four months of building. She has said that this is my last layout no more room to store them. Will have to see about this, could always build a few micro layouts? For those of you who live near BonnyBridge (Scottish Modeller I hope I have got it correct) please try and come to the show. They are a great lot of guys and put on a great show. If you do come please let on to us. Cheers Peter
  12. hi all Here are a few shots taken to day of the layout. I have been doing all the small items that when you look closely you find, like just now found that I have missed painting the banking walls near the power station , will have to do this in the morning. Also one of the front boards hiding the fiddle yard has been cut wrong so will have to make a new on again in the morning. Any way a few shots to be going on with for now. Peter
  13. Hi Wild boar Thanks for the comments. Will PM you tomorrow with details. of printer. Yes Cambrian kits use to do a 1960's timber wagon, I have one which I got on a club stand and needs building but it is NA now. The 15 ton one in their Cat. is still not out, or up to the other month. We stock them in the shop so have been waiting for them that is why I want to try and make some with 3D printing but cannot get into Cad. I am from the old school using a drawing board.. Peter
  14. Thanks for that.. Never was good at spelling.. Will we see you at the Show/ If so please let on to us. Peter
  15. Hi all. Well apart from the sign and the fitting of the curtain it is finished that is are they ever fully finished, You can always find a few more people to add or make a small diorama in some way. am already thinking od adding a few more trees, also where the divers are on the side of the loch how about part of a ww2 aeroplane that they have recovered from the loch. Have already seen a few areas that will be touched up before the show. Any way it will be stripped down and packed up ready to go to Bonneybridge show next Friday. Really looking foreward to the show. Peter.
  16. Hi Colin Thanks for your comments. Regarding the layout going to shows we have sent out numerous cv's of the layout to organisers of like Warley, 009 society and many many others over the years and have never had any invites for it. As I said it has been to only 4 shows which were all local. My other layouts - Porth Eithin, Glen Gillie, Dartmouth for Kingswear, GTD have all been to shows, We average between 4 - 6 shows a year and all shows are issued with a full set of cv's but to no avail for the narrow gauge. It is one of my most favoured layouts as during the early 1960's the late David Lloyd and John Huxley and myself travelled on numerous occassions up and down the line giving me very fond memories of the line. David and I built a small diorama of the flying crossings over the main line at Port Penrhyn. I would love to get the narrow gauge part working and the engines made but there is no one in the club (South Caernarfonshire MRG) interested and also there appears to be a lack of interest from modellers in this area of north wales. I would love to be able to take it to some more shows (in fact there is a further board that had been started which was to have the standard gauge and narrow gauge bridges over the river on it but due to the lack of interest it was never completed). Due to the memories it holds with David and the line itself just at this point I don't know whether I can bring myself to part with it. Must say that since I said I was going to possibly scrap it there has been more interest shown in the layout. To attend shows I have my own 4x4 and trailer for the smaller layouts and therefore it is only the cost of the diesel (between 12 & 15 mpg pulling) and overnight accommodation B&B. If a very long distance away we usually ask for Sunday night accommodation and usually 2 operators, but even this seems to be too much. Keep in touch, pity you are not nearer and you could help me! Peter
  17. Hi Jinty Thanks for the comments. Yes I know that the Timber wagons OTA's are the wrong type but apart from a kit of the 50/60's wagons , which are so hard to get hold of , I have one to build, there is no other wagons for this trade. I now have a 3D printing machine and it is hoped that some time in the near future I will try and make some 3D models of the wagons , but at present still trying to conquer the depths of 3D cad. Looking forward to seeing you. Out at Bonneybridge show 3-6th Oct then home for two days then off to the Great Electric Train Show with Glen Gillie and Loch Inch part of the layout. from the 10th - 13th Oct. So any time other than those dates you are most welcome to call. Peter
  18. Just a short note to say that the engine shed has been finished and is awaiting fitting on to the layout. Still adding small detail work but am running out of suitable people for the layout ? The second layers of the falls using the fibres are under way and should be complete by tomorrow.Mainly the curtains to sort out around the layout and the new sign On course for everything to be completed by Sunday. Peter Ps At present it is so dark in the house that I can not take any decent photographs of the layout. It needs to be down at the unit so the first chance that I will have is at the show next week.
  19. Hi Baldwin Sorry I have not got back to you but have been finishing the Layout Bridge of Muir for the show. First of all i did not get your early PM don't know what happened to it. A few years ago Penrhyn Castle said they would be interested in the layout for their museum but nothing came of this. They already have one and so said that they did not have the room for a second layout. The Heritage Railway were very keen at one stage and one of their members came to have a look at it and was keen to have it at some of their open days but then there was a change of management or something like that and they lost interest in it . So it is just taking up space at the unit and collecting dust. There was the article in Narrow Gauge World last year but even that did not arouse any interest in the layout, No one in the club is interested in getting it going on the narrow gauge so it looks as though its days are numbered. Peter
  20. Hi All Here are a few shots I took to day of the black five on a wood train. Had a heart stopping moment when the whole layout did not work on both the points and the main controller. After a couple of hours searching found that while touching up the track with paint I had knocked a sliver of copper clad so that it was making contact on the opposite side and thus shorting out. After removing the offending item all was restored back to health. Small detailing work now in hand together with more trees. Cheers Peter
  21. Hi Baldwin30762 Nothing has been done on the layout for some considerable time. Just in storage, the narrow gauge track hasn't been done and the engine kits still waiting to be done. Have been thinking about selling it or scrapping it off. Peter
  22. Hi All Here area few shots of the building of the falls under the bridge. We have to build up the waves using fibre and making waves from deluxe materials. Theses shots are after the first build up and the casting resin being poured on to the main loch area.. There is also two shots of the placement of the fir trees being planted , so far 95 firs and twenty five Scots pines planted still a further 100 to do.
  23. Hi All Here are a few shots that I took of Kyle station while on my trip to Skye. The building that I am using on Bridge of Muir is a copy of Kyle station that was made in the late 1970's/early 1980's for a layout based on that station. It has been repainted and a new roof fitted for this layout. I must say that I am not too keen upon the paint scheme, that purple/blue? I feel does nothing for the building. Peter
  24. Hi All here are a few shots taken when on holiday on Skye and at the Connel bridge showing the falls. First of all some shots of the Sloy power station on which I based the model on showing the pipelines and in one shot the rail bridge that goes across the pipes. Next a shot for Andy of Bertie enjoying the view on Skye with Wendy and Jacks And finally some shots of the falls peter
