  1. Hi all I have used hairspray on my Seamoss trees for the las 20 odd years and have found it OK for sticking the foliage (Woodland) on . All the layouts have been used on the exhibition circuts and so have been use to some rough handling (see my threads on here.) Peter
  2. Hi All Here is a photo of the two turbine generators that I have built for the inside of the power station with the associated wiring and flashing units. Cheers Peter
  3. Hi Andy Have already thought of that Andy. As it is only happening at the station end before it goes onto the viaduct am thinking of opening up the gap between the track bed and the track bed on the viaduct so they don't bind and then cut both rails and make a scarf sliding joint (similar to what is on the 360' lengths of welded rail). That way I hope that between the two ie track bed and rail joints, it will allow enough space for expansion caused by the heat. Will let you know. Cheers Peter
  4. Hi Matt A good idea that, At prsent it has gone back down but I still may do something like that on the side of the bridge so keep looking. Cheers Peter
  5. Hi All Here are a few shots that I have taken of the bowing on the bridge. It had nearly gone back last night but it has gone again this morning. All so a few other shots of the layouts taken today. Sorting out some of the track that has to be laid and will I hope be starting on that in the next few days. Cheers Peter
  6. Hi Andy Have just been looking at it. It is now going back down so if I can get some glue underneath the deck to should hold it down , but I think it needs a larger expansion joint at the end where it goes onto the stone viaduct section. Will try that first. Cheers Peter
  7. Hi Andy & Neil Thanks for the comments. Andy, have had a look at your new thread. In my mis-spent youth New Mills, New Mills South Junction ad Gowhole Sidings were my stomping grounds in the days of steam. Today it has been 39 degrees in the garden on the thermometer. The result is have just been into the shed and guess what - the bridge decking on Bridge of Muir has bowed by about 15mm at one end. It appears as though the heat has pulled the glue away from the decking girders. This happened once before at the Great Central Railway Show a few years back and we rebuilt the deck but it looks as though we will have to do it again. Haven't done much in there because of the heat so letting it all cool down. Cheers for now Peter
  8. Hi All Thanks for the comments lads. I have at last found today the station building for Bridge of Muir and have just placed it on the layout, will take a few shots of it and post them. In the mean time I have been sorting out the stock and setting up the storage yard. Also the other day I took del. of two class J70's one with skirts and one without. Not certain where they will be used. Could be looking at a new small tramway layout? Anyway will keep you all informed. Cheers Peter
  9. Hi All Well over the last 10 days I have done more work on the layot than in the last 7 months. It's great what some blood pumped into you does. Any way here are a few shots of the Bridge of Muir layout now installed in it's new home. A start will be made in the next week on the conversion from DCC to DC with the building of a new control panel and some touching up of items. At present I cannot find the station building. Still a lot to do so if anyone who is local and would like to get involved please drop me a PM and I will give you details. Cheers for now Peter
  10. Hi all I'm back after being ill for the last 6-7 months was rushed in hospital last month with a heart attack caused by incorrect medication and lack of oxygen in the blood. After a number of transfussions am now back 100% better than what I was and starting to take an interest at last in modelling. What has happened is we have brought Bridge of Muir layout up from the unit and this will be erected in the new shed and altered over the next few weeks so hopefully will be starting to put stuff on the thread (when I get round how to use it). Cheers for now.
  11. Hi all Just a few photos of the actual power station Cheers Peter
  12. Hi all Carrying on the theme of showing the various buildings on the layout being built here are a fewq shots of the hydro-electric plant on the B of M. It is based on the power station on the side of Loch Lomond. It is made from foam board covered with embossed plasticard with the dam from balsawood and treated with textured paint to represent concrete. The windows in the plant are built up from dornaplas. Inside the building are 2 electric generators which have flashing lights from the comutators. All other bits are made from bits of plastic tube and plasticard etc. Hope you enjoy them. Cheers Peter
  13. Hi all Bridge of Muir is one of the exhibition layouts that will be incorporated into the final dream layout in the new shed.It was the first main layout that I built using full DCC control and was intended to be the layout to give me information for converting the other layouts to that mode of control. But as you now know the whole layout will be DC operation due tio the illness that I now have, Anyway the layout was based upon the scottish region with the station layout being based loosely on Crianlarich, The main part of the layout was the bridge which is a very accurate copy of the bridge ar Connel ferry on the outskirts of Oban. The structure is just short of eight foot long and was built after some three hundred photos had bee taken of it, and took about 450 hours of work to complete . It is made completely out of plastruct with the exception of two brass channels that run the full length to give structural support. Anyway here are some shots of the building and the finished bridge. Cheers Peter
  14. Hi All Well a Very Happy New Year to all. Health at present isn't too bad and Wendys knee is improving and is going for physiotherapy. Over the next few days/weeks we are hoping to bring up from the unit Glen Gillie and the Bridge of Muir boards and get them installed down the centre of the new room. It has been decided that we will convert Bridge of Muir to dc from dcc and after studying it we find that all we have got to alter is the wiring on the two station boards and build a new small control panel for the section switches. The points already being worked from a small panel. In the meantime what I am going to do is put on some of the features/buildings as they were being constructed for Glen Gillie and Bridge of Muir. Apologies if some of the photos have been used on the other threads. The actual layout needs 3 areas yet to be constructed to link and make this one complete layout but could do with some help on the wiring and laying of track etc. Anyway here are the photos. A view of the building on the main street from station to overbridge A view of the start of construction of main engine shed on G.G. The engine shed nearing completion A view of the distillery's engine shed nearing completion The completed distillery Next ones will be on B of M. All the buildings are made using foam board then covered with embossed plasticard. Peter
  15. Hi Andy Not starting to good Wendy has just gone to hospital after falling down the grog stairs and doing in her knee. Has I am not driving friend has taken her for a X ray. Mean while I am getting everything ready for Christmas day. I will be glad when its the new year. Cheers Peter
  16. Hi all Can say nothing has been done since beginning of November due to some health issues but hoping to resume work after Christmas. If anyone is in the area between Christmas and new year and wants to call in and see the layouts you are most welcome to contact me via pm and come and enjoy a drink and mince pie. So it only remains to say to everybody from Andy and the moderators to all the members and friends A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. See you all in the new year - happy modelling. Cheers Peter
  17. Hi All[ I have been over the last few days sorting out the stock for the layout and the following shots are of a large diesel shunter that I obtained some years ago but have not used it. It is like the large engine that is at Tunsted but this one has the cabs at each end and not in the centre like the real one. Still I like it and the colours match. It has been said to me that some of you may find it interesting on how the building for all the layouts have been made so if you want to see this I will put some shots of GTD, Bridge of Muir and Glen Gillie. Here are a few tb be going on with. The lime works GTD The back of the lime works that is not normally seen. The start of the main bridge on Bridge of Muir layout Peter
  18. Hi Oiddudders Thanks for the comments. The Augher Valley was here with us in Wales until about 2008 when the barn was flooded and most of it was destroyed. There are still a couple of boards mainly the station that are still in the old workshop. I just do not have the heart to get rid of them . By the way at the time the layout was built in 1960/62 I was 13/14 years of age. Peter
  19. Hi all For those of you who don't know I have started a new thread called The Final Dream where GTD together with 2 other layouts Bridge of Muir and Glen Gillie plus 2 other layouts which have not been on the RMW have been combined to form 1 new large layout in a new shed measuring 46' x 17'. This development is fully covered on this new thread. Below is just a photo of the shed. I still cannot link the threads together will have to see if Andy will do it for me. Peter
  20. Hi all Couple of shots of some of the rolling stock that is used on GTD. The little blue diesel shunter was one I made from an old matchbox diesel using parts from the scrap box. Originally when I put it on the GTD thread a member posted and sent me pm's saying that I was ruining a good layout and it was stupid so its been lying in the scrap box until the other day when I found it. It is now going to be used. The other wagon is a model of a wagon that was made by ICI at Tunstead in the workshops for doing maintenance work on the unloading hopper doors of the main buildings. The photos show the state it was in a good few years ago. I am not certain if it still exists. When at the site with Paul a number of years ago I photographed it and took some leading dimensions and the other photo shows the resulting model. Have been sorting out a lot of stock and beginning to finish build the missing sections of base boards so will keep you informed. Peter not certain if I took this one or Jamie did. If he did thanks very much This is the original wagon. This is the model that I made.
  21. Hi All Well little has been done this last wek due to other matters but a little has been done on the model of the old lime works, so here are afew shots of it todate. Peter
  22. Hi all After the storm today has been really good and have spent the day wiring up and doing various bits and peices on the layout. The shed weathered the storm well but some more of the ceiling in the barn library has come down. If there is anybody local who would be interested in helping setting up the layout and wiring please pm me, all help gratefully received (free tea and coffee provided). Yesterday with the weather being so bad didn't move from inside the house so I started work on one of the new buildings for GTD, it being an old loading type structure the idea being that the tracks have been taken up and some new silos built for powder products via road transport. The basis of the kit at present is some Ratio stone arches but no doubt, as usual, it will end up with bits of piping and rusty iron work as per my other industrial buildings. Below is a photo have just taken so please add some comments. Peter
  23. Hi all Not been too good this last week so not done much at all on the layout but have started on the old stone buildings which are in ruins on the corner of GTD on the new board. As usual there will be some piping involved no doubt. On a seperate matter another 20 odd ICI Hoppers have arrived with the last 10 being despatched frpm Hattons tpday which will give me a total of 50 which will allow a good 4 trains of either 10 or 12 wagons to be run with a few spare. Below are a couple of shots have taken of some of them being pulled by 2 of my Hornby Crosti 9F's, one in mint condition and one in GTD yard beautifully weathered for me by a friend at Hartlepool a couple of years ago and which I am very sorry to say have completely forgotten his name. Anyway here they are but I must apologise for the slight fuzziness cann'y get the camera right yet on focusing. Peter
  24. Hi All Well here is a rough plan of the layout that I hope it will be.Thanks for some of plans is to Jamie and Hornby mag. Hope this is oK Martin. Scan_0001.pdf Cheers Peter
  25. Hi all Shot of the re-aligned entrance into the storage yards coming from the lift out section over the door. Still got to finish the wiring but it is making a difference having the lights on. Cheers Peter
