Hi Mike
Can you let me know when the club will be starting the open days: I'd like to see the layout - and to run on a continuous DCC layout. I see from the Guild News magazine that you're in a new cubroom: is the decorating finished yet?
Do you ever come over to Preston Group's Open Days?
Rod
Hi Rod,
I will certainly let you know, it should not be too long now
we have finished the decorating, just waiting for the landlord to complete a few things then we will be posting notices.
I have not been to Preston for some time now, but other members of the Group are regular visitors, so they will also pass on information about our open days.
cheers

Hi Rod,
just caught up with your project - very interesting as it was one of the station layouts that we at Wirral OGG considered for our next project, we have settled on New Brighton 1950s/70s and again like you, no third rail and no curve in the platform.
We have a 38' x 15' four track continuous run 'test track' with the outer pair of lines wired for DC and the inner pair for DCC. It is our intention to have 'New Brighton' to run off of the DCC lines into the centre of the layout, thus taking up no additional floorspace in the Cub room, but to also make two additional boards which would include the sand sidings plus an 8' traverser type fiddle yard which would then form a terminus layout for us to take out to exhibitions.
Good luck with your project, I'm looking forward to the progress reports.
cheers

BTW, does anyone know where I might find one of those winding handles (like hand brake handles) as unfortunately I snapped one of the spokes from one when trying to straighten it a little, I thought they were white metal but are made of stronger (read more brittle) stuff........
Hi Dave,
following this build with interest.
You might have some luck with these people

unfortunately, not all of the sections have photos in them, but there is a section 'mechanisms' and sheels are mentioned - might be worth giving them a ring.
all the best

soon to start a Sandite conversion on an Easybuild 121

Ozzy, this is very odd as I cannot access it at all on my home comp, and I just tried it on my neighbours laptop and we are getting the same result, a message that says "could not connect to remote server".
I am now giving up as it is definately not my computer....thankfully
Hi David,
have you tried going through the link on the Guild's website - I've just done that and it worked fine.

Hi all,
just been exchanging emails with Peter Harvey on another matter and he has told me that he is producing a 'basic' detail set for the Deltic - I guess that he will be giving more details shortly.

an inspiration to all modern image modellers - well done. It tempts me to try a diorama in OO, with a couple of diesels 'simmering' with the sound on, while I concentrate on the O Gauge models.

oil cans and bench are brilliant, can we expect a squirrel to appear shortly as well?

excellent - yet again. Already looking forward to seeing the Prestwin - you should have a decent rake by Telford!

Hi Dave,
totaly agree, so it's short bursts on the button with multiple thin layers - working for me at the moment.

Hi Mike,
Nice work!
The phots seem better on here
Have you modified the chassis/underfrmaes as there seems to be more fresh-air/daylight present than on some Bachmann's that I have seen...
The Brooklands green.......which car manufacturer does it apply to? How well does it go on, as I have noticed that some car paint (acrylics) seem to, all too easily, end up with that plasticised orange peel effect - how do you find them/get them to go on so nice?
ATB
CME
Hi CME,
no mods whatsoever. The Brooklands Green is Rover. I always warm brass locos whilst they are on the painting turntable for a few minutes with a fan heater and have the can on the turntable as well. It seems to do the trick, touch wood not had the orange peel effect, so hopefully, I'm doing something right - for a change. Light, short bursts with the can at 300mm to 450mm from the object. Just used the same procedure on the Bachmann Crab, so we'll see.

Hi Brian,
unfortunately, I have had to curtail my modelling to painting and using PVA glues, so the detailing kit was out of the question as far as D3459 was concerned. I will be looking out for some bargains on the Bring and Buy stand at Gresford and Telford to hopefully pick up some decent models that just need a repaint - we'll see.
cheers

Mike, any pictures of the Bachmann 08's?
Hi Brian,
I have done nothing to the models, just painted them - Halfords etch primer followed by Halfords Brooklands Green, Satin Black and Bumper Grey then on D3459, Tamyia weathering blocks - applied as a water colour and on 13115, just Railmatch Satin Varnish with a few drops of Weathered Black and Frame Dirt added to tone it down
D3459 will be getting a Loksound chip shortly, whilst 13115 will be going back to it's owner tomorrow evening at the Club.
Thanks for asking for the pictures.

Hi Brian,
great work as usual - thanks for saying about the Precision 'wording' sheet, I ordered same from John for the two Bachmanns that I've just painted - got me out of a hole (again)

Hi Richard,
it's what happens when you try and shunt a Class 70 out of the way! That's why Brian is driving it now - he's more gentle on the regulator.

Hi Brian,

Hi David,
you could also look out for 'Class 40s to Holyhead' by Steve Morris - Cheona Publications ISBN 1-900298-30-9
Lots of useful shots of the shed and surrounding areas.

Great job as usual Brian, Dick Taylor deserves a better press than he gets, so hopefully the demand for his kits will be on the increase. A 121 would be nice - as a Sandite.

Hi Z,
I suggest that you get onto the Gauge O Guild's website and use the Gazette archive facility or the Magazine Digest and sort under Ace Products for all of the other reviews - the L1 for instance. I started a J2 Bessborough some years ago and gave up and got somebody to finish it for me - which he did - eventually!!!

Anyhoo.....for everyone following Brian's diesel thread.....Merry Christmas folks....
and to you and yours Dave
all the best
