  1. Have to say this is a great layout for a couple of selfish reasons. Firstly, I am also trying to fit in a n scale layout into a similar space.  Mine proposed N layout is my first venture back into N since 1986 and is US prototype. I am or will be  modelling PRR coal so slightly different than the Southern.

However the 2 deck nature of the layout is of most interest. I figured the only way to get the TT layout and N scale one in the room is double deck so was happy to find somone else doing it.

  2. I am in Woodend Victoria so just far enough away from Melbourne to be a pain but close enough to Bendigo/Ballarat.

Model UK 3mm scale, US N scale an have 1 HO scale loco I take when visiting other modellers.

Know a few other modellers in the region but none from here.

  3. There was a blink and you miss it EMU action in Sweeney2 when the boys run go accross an overbride chasing villans

Superb continental action in the Great Escape

The original day of the Triffids had a out of control train cash into a Terminus - IIRC filthy Black 5

Yes Minister - Jim Hacker goes to Scotland for an offical visit and byelections - Deltic and Mk1 sleeper action

  4. Blackburn South isn't that far away. I will have to see what we are doing on Sat, but if memory serves me right myself ans SWMBO are off looking at white goods for the new house as there are a couple of sales on this week

I have a long way to go before baseboards are needed, just need to paint the house, put the carpet in, install bathrooms, wire up the lights and electrics....but I I made a new topic with a scematic and track plan so it is the 'offical' start to the project.

Anyway, after that there is the 4mm project to fun the triang/dublo, a space of 5m X 5m....

  5. Doug: because I hurt my wrist again I have been drilling holes and putting screws in just a few at a time each day after I get home. Toby has been wrestling the mat inside our front door (he kicks the s*** out of it too!) so we never know what position it is going to be in: I tripped on it in the dark after getting back home from your place on Sunday. He has taken to sitting on the window sill behind the layout a lot lately - he does like the trains. I haven't locked him out of the room yet but once I start putting scenery in i might have to review the situation. As long as he remains non-destructive I'll leave the doors open (previous cat demolished a few of my very delicate Ratio semaphore signals and ate some of the plastic figures, including the school mistress and half a motor cycle!).

SRman, I see we have similiar issues not to mention the apparent lack of woodworking talent. this was from the old forum but still happens on a regular basis.

  6. TT3 if you want a layout like SRmans all you need to do is ask! I can make it quite easily (read spent too much on wood working tools over the years!) All you need to do is send me the plan with dimensions. I will ask difficult questions which might challange your thoughts on operation so it can be exactly what you want. But Woodend I might leave up to you to pick it up from me! If you are comming to the BRMA meeting on Saturday you can look at how I put things together. SRmans is the same style as mine but a different design.

Thanks Doug I will certainly take you up on that, :drinks: I have been agonising about baseboards and trying to see how I can save leftovers from previous layouts. I must start a new planning topic for the MK2 version of the 3mm layout. I have a few sketch ideas that would benefit from the opinios of people on here.

Nothing concrete yet though as I am building a new house with a 12 foot square bedroom that will house the layout.

I will have to have a look at SRmans boards, I have been trying to see how it is constructed as all i need are frames and legs, I have a few ideas about the tops I want to try out. Also, where abouts are you, Woodend is far away from everyone I have noticed.

  7. Just thought of a challenge, a layout that is all cliches, well deliberatley placing as many as possible.

I reckon it would be great fun and not too difficult, afterall it could be a BLT, depo, rouindy with bridge for fiddle yard/scenic break with bus on, dairy in front of fiddle yard, funfair, Dr who box, train spotter, child waving, people running for the train, road accident, house on fire, nudists, retaining wall with shops behind...

  8. That tudale is a great layout, exactly what I would like to have for my 00 stock and built to a higher standard than I could at the moment. If it was not for the price and the fact that transport a 1 pound per mile to Australia would double the cost it would be a done deal wink.gif

  9. biggrin.gif Nice one Jules, good name for a layoutbiggrin.gif

Great progress and I do like the track plan, very usable and a lot of fun wink.gif . A significant bonus I discovered from the small layout option is your enthusiasm stays high, opportunities for shortcuts are low and there is always the option to extend the layout if/when you have the space/time/resources....

  10. Jules, no need to apologize for modelling a GWR BLT, instead congratualte yourself that you are at the cutting edge of the GWR's return to fashion smile.gif wink.gif .

Have to agree with this, now is the time to model the GWR, luckily most of my models were made the last time the the GWR was popular!

  11. Nothing wrong with a GWR BLT icon_thumbsup2.gif, will be keen to see how it develops with the space considerations.

I have to admit this topic was a bit of inspiration, I am just about to start layout dismantling in light of current house move, so enthusiasim has understandably dropped for the current layout.

However, I remembered under the house I has some old kitchen cabinet bases, one of which is 5 foot by 16 inches - just right for a decent GWR BLT in 3mm scale (equivalent to almost 7 by 2 in 00). Now I have the track, wood, point motors, spare buidings, scenic material and everthing else from the never to be completed sections of the current layout so I might knock up something similiar over christmas..even better I can reuse the current centre fiddle yard complete.

  12. Only just rediscovered this layout as well, have enjoyed following the progress so far as we are in a similiar situation - return to modelling, whole room to play with, thing a bit course scale for the moment!

The building and backscenes look very good indeed. I will be following the progres with much interest as I have decided to rebuild the current layout (due to house move) and construct my own (additional) GWR branch c1947-53 so I can run my panniers/2251s and other assorted stock.
