  1. .........Have sound fitted "Swindon" with a Howes sound chip and that finishes it off a treat.

    .....

Wow - very jealous now!!! - sound as well, must be a real treat. Maybe someone will treat me to a sound decoder IF Tintagel arrives before Christmas (2010)!!

  2. I think that if Simon Kohler appears at'Steam' at Swindon this year with the Hornby Road Show I shall do my level best to engage him in conversation and politely suggest that he should stop messing ............ and get his delivery schedule in order......... ).

Quite - it seems strange that new models are still being announced and shown as pre-production runs, when last years catalogue has still not been delivered!

I think if I was at Steam and bumped into Simon, I might have a few difficult questions for him, like Why did he put onto MRE that it was due 5th July into the UK. Had China not told him they had not made any yet, let alone not shipped them!! (Sadly we fly to Spain that day, so will miss Steam again.)

Its not just the delay Mike but being kept in the dark about why its delayed.I can see the 28xx coming out before Tintagel !

I don't think there is a gaurantee that any of the GW stock will arrive before Tintagel???? - I still think it very strange that this year of GW 175 and Hornby adverts have contained the 28xx and that toy 0-4-0 with no mention of Tintagel. Why did two BR verisions get released before anything pre-nationalisation?

Thanks for the pics. Isn't she a beauty!

Agreed, so I guess it will be worth the wait, but it is very frustrating to receive email after email from Hornby to say "delayed until xx" I am pretty sceptical that it will arrive October as advised in their latest emails. Particulaly as a model shop is already commenting oct / Nov.

..... Overall it all seems a touch shambolic and I seriously wonder just who is deciding the order in which stuff is, or isn't, coming out of the factories........

I could think of a few very apt answers to that one!

As well as the obvious frustration, I am very surprised that Hornby do not release official statements about such delays. If Simon can put a comment onto MRE a month ago, why could he not add an update? - Either on MRE or on here, something like.. "Sorry guys, delay due to ....."

I shall have to go out and buy more Cooper Craft / Slaters kits to keep me busy, or decorate the Conservatory, or Build the new Kitchen !!

  3. This however is the email received this week:

    Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2010 10:35:41 +0000

    From: customercare@Hornby.com

    Dear Mr. Ball,

    Thank you for your email.

The Tintagel Castle Class is due to arrive here in October.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further queries you may have in the future.

    Kind regards

    Customer Care

  4. I have just received an email from Hornby after enquiring about a delivery date for Tintagel castle. It is now expected in........ October!!!

I also asked about dates for the 28xx and 61xx but these did not get replies.

Plus, I asked why the Castle has been delayed so long, but again there was no comment on that question.

All very frustrating - at least we now know why the Castle was not included in the July newsletter!!!!

  5. I always recall seeing Gloucester parcels cars around the Hayes and Southall area in the 1970's - As mentioned above they were on timetabled services every day plying the main line.

I have very fond memories of 117 coming under the bridge (with loads of noise) on the Paddington bound local services at Hayes.

    Regards,

  6.

........Be interesting to see how the lined livery looks on Tintagel. I bought the Bachmann Sketty Hall and though that it looked a bit garish compared to the BR look.

Yes, I agree, think it is a bit heavy handed - maybe once the layout is closer to completion I might repaint it!

  8. I tend to agree. By my count there have been seven new Castle models announced. Only one of them is in GWR livery (Tintagel Castle) and that was listed in the 2009 catalogue.

For 2010 (GW 175), very little is actually available in a GWR livery and besides No. 5011 (now 18 months since the initial announcement) no Castles.

Personally I think Hornby missed a trick with GW175, but let's not go down that road again!

Looking forward to receiving Tintagel Castle and still can not decide on what name it is going to be.

  9. Have sent a further email to Hornby today to see when we might expect Tintagel Castle. Their last email was dated 6th May and said "in a month" - let's hope it is soon!

Have received a reply - now due in July!

  10. Its been a long wait Neal.I ordered mine in December 2008 !

Mine was ordered this January! - I am sure it will be worth the wait, but will 1 be enough !!! - At least the layout will be ready.....

  11. I've also been waiting patiently for over a year for Tintagel Castle and the 12-wheel Pullmans, checking websites every day ready to thrash my credit card. I can't think of any other retail sector where the customers are treated so badly. What other industry would even think of producing a catalogue full of things you can't buy!

I agree! - It does seem to be that the catalogue dates are very fluid and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I suppose in the old days, if it was in the catalogue, it would be made in Margate. (Some by my partners Uncle, who gave him some Hornby mock-up locos). If a particular item sold well, they could increase the production at a moments notice. Now of course they have to fit in with the schedule in China, being shared with Bachmann (and others?) and then be shipped half way across the world. No longer are any manufacturers able to turn goods out at a moments notice.

But then what we will be getting will certainly be worth the wait. - It's just frustrating thats all.

I waited last year for the Pullman Observation car to be produced, only to find they were as rare as Hens teeth and still have not got one!!

    Model Railway room almost finished.....

  12. .............No sign of Tintagel though. sad.gif

I have mine on order with Rails in Sheffield, who advise there is no date yet for Tintagel Castle to be issued. How frustrating! - Gives me time to build the new shed though - new layout here we come! - something like 16 metres run, should give the Castle something to do!

Then I need to get more of those Slaters Toplight kits.
