  1. the boards look fit for purpose, better too heavy than drop to bits: yeh looks well proportioned from here! - the sensible thing for operation would have been to be on the shorter side, but given the nature of the project I think you get less water area and more scenic expanse this way round, which is good.
  2. or if "there haven't been any for ages" then you'd need 3 for a proper cliche! as for model railways based on real places the number of times I've read 'Ashburton'- as a small space terminus article in the modelling press, does that mean real locations can become cliches?
  3. Hope things pick up for you, just caught up with the model it will look great I think judging by the building mockups. -Out of curiousity, are you going to lay the track directly to foam or put some firmer roadbed in?
  4. I assume it would be to make things more standard, in a 'health & safety' style of way- there was a big advertising campaign recently about the 'dangers' of level crossings. Being very cynical I might even suggest that an accident (might of allegedly) occured at one of the sites with the old style lights - where the old style of light might allegedly be to blame rather than (car) driver error?
  5. the northern & fife buses look very nice, not just sure what the others are to be representing?- the guy in the fife fleetline looks like he could do with an adjustable steering column!
  6. decision time- more Northumbrian NBR in OO -with C&L track or venture into Narra Gauge??

    1. sixteen 12by 10s

      sixteen 12by 10s

What about NB narrow gauge modelled in 7mm scale with 16.5mm track, that should do it

  7. the fact that they are painted up is well worth an extra £40 on the 'Dapol kit package' in my eyes, if this varient did Speyside then Bobs my Uncle for the next plan!
  8. some excellent pics there, really great could just imagine the 37 pulling up outside Talisker distillery- we were there on thursday!
  9. indeed - the way the track and basic structure appearance and painting makes me think this is worth watching even at the 'plywood acres' stage.
  10. -seems to be an Argyll Arms in every village here must drive the draymen nuts! seem to remember some good pubs in the borders, especially round Kielder and Hadrians Wall. You'll have to have the obligatory red T if its the Scottish side of the border tho'
  11. the 'photoshop backscene' does on the look very well, are there any plans for a backscene to the layout? - out of interest would you go for something like this or more specific to the original location (dont worry I'm not trying to lead you into a 'its P4 so it ought to have the right backscene' type argument , the Glencoe backscene does look very effective and not out of place!)
  12. Just caught up with this one, suffice to say it looks VERY nice ! -will be watching with interest.
  13. slightly ironic that I have the full w/e off for EM North but now moved too far North to get to it!

  14. its back! with half an hour to spare and no come back a week on tuesday message- Well Done!

  15. Not sure that preserved lines are the 'run anything' kind of panacea anyway, though there is often variety of stuff its not necessarily all running at the same time, normally 2 or 3 engines at a time maximum - steam and diesel days are Usuallyseperate (again if I was to model a preserved railway the ELR NYMR and severn valley seem to manage the biggest variety in interesting landscape.) Too many coaches- typically 5 upwards , not enough wagons, what exactly is the appeal, if you want to run what you want just run what you want! ... to model a preserved railway isn't a justifiable excuse, many have at some point run the USA war engines (S160?) where would you get one of them in 4mil?
  16. Enjoyed looking at this very nice and compact, well planned (as if a layout by you wouldnt be ! ) It ought to put to bed any ideas that RTP buildings and atmosphere are mutually exclusive! Like others I personally prefer the blue/transition period, but the steam is interesting too, and you can 'get away with it' in such locations
  17. Excellent , enjoyed catching up on this thread- especially now living in Calmac territory. Saw the damn thing yesterday hope you dont mind the pics !!
  18. Cheers, I have one of those in a box somewhere! - I guessed it was but you have done further mods to the cab? does it run well?- the railroad wagons do look the part, am quite suprised by that, upi would think they might look underscale.
  19. Thanks , but The reverting to nature look is something I like in prototype and model, I spend most of my 'prototype interest time' looking at old disused locations than the modern railway, which is not something that appeals to me particularly. All my present layouts are either in new hands, (Deadwater can still be found on here 'in good hands') or on the skip, as had a big move from West yorks to the West Coast of Scotland, so a clean slate-in more ways than one!
  20. Lovely, particularly like they hillside and slate fences, what about the rolling stock? I'm thinking its pretty much standard 4mm stuff - new cab on the loco? O16.5 is something |'m intrested in and have a load of stuff squirreled away!
  21. Nice to see this (and even RMWeb) after the move, yes last time we were up we decided it was time not to come back, living & working in Argyll now and apart from decent fish & chips, not missing Yorkshire! Hope you do manage to get this out in public its definitley a cut above some of the stuff you see, the backscene and buildings that totally fix the location, whether or not rolling stock present, love it!
  22. Some very 'top notch' modelling going on here regards the harbour. its looking good.
  23. Cheers folks, Yes it will be quite a change- the google street view car has been there so its no longer remote! the pics are Southend, Argyll. We'll be based in Campbeltown from mid-april, and looking forward to it!
  24. Yeah its loads better! - the real stuff was indeed very red when it got put down -remember seeing the bits round Edinburgh and Haymarket when they were remodelled. I'd also say regards the grey for the depot well the pic of Eastfield shows only one siding with the red ballast so I dont think your way out there. Till I saw the youtube vid I didnt realise how resemblent your depot track plan was of Eastfield obviously on a smaller scale but you can see how it resembles. Very nice.
  25. I thought I'd just have a quick update, to tidy things up and let people know I hadn't died! We are moving soon and I've had very little modelling or even RMweb time. Deadwater has been sold onto another RMwebber as has the ex Mozzer's Armitage Carriage works layout. I'm having a fairly big stock clearout, if you look an Ebay you may find some OO, N and EM stuff, I think we no longer have the facility for direct links to sales as on the old site- I needed a fixed timescale for these so appologies for not going the usual classifieds route! I am keeping hold of the bonafide BR blue stuff as I think that will be the next project. Space is not determinable yet at the new place, in the original plan thought we were going to somewhere in Dumfries and Galloway but for various reasons we are now going somewhere considerably more remote, its unlikely that I will be getting to exhibitions or even model shops as easily as before, so having to think long and hard.. its probable that future projects will depend on what I take with me now, and can order by internet-preferably without the highlands and islands postage hike!!
