  1. G'day all, A "Special" this month - well two of them really. As those of you who are 2mm Members will have read (as you diligently read your newsletters...) the order for the October meetings has been reversed with the Morning meeting first, and the Evening meeting second, to accommodate Mick Simpson's talk about his new layout. The original idea was for Mick to present this coming Saturday but owing to him having an unavoidable commitment coming up after the arrangements were made, we have made the decision to move the meeting to SUNDAY. So.. The next ZAG meeting is this coming Sunday (15ht of October) from 0930GMT. Please adjust according to your location. Mick's presentation will start at 1000GMT to allow everyone to get in and get settled. It is presently the intention to record the presentation and, after postproduction work, put it up on the 2mm Association YouTube channel. Once Mick's presentation concludes, the normal business of a ZAG meeting will continue until everyone gets called for Lunch/Bed (delete as appropriate!) 2. On its Australian debut, Wansbeck Road spreading the message to the British Railway Modellers of Australia members in town for their annual convention and AGM. We also got to try out the newest fleet member - J39 64931 fresh of the plane from the UK just in time. It behaved itself pretty well allowing for jet lag! Yes, a new backscene is in process.
  3. G'day all, Holidays and I lose track of time so sorry for the late running of this notice! The next ZAG meeting is this coming Saturday (23rd Sept) from 0930GMT. Please adjust according to your location. All are welcome to join in, and share what they have been building, ask for advice (and share their favourite tips for success) and generally have a chat about their projects. 4. Just missed this year's Virtual Modelling Competition but if you take it to Aldershot... Stunning piece of work Ian.
  5. Proving once again that RMWeb seems to answer most obscure questions I too am interested in modelling the D341 Orchard van for exactly the same reasons - I'm building a model of St Albans Abbey (albeit in 2mm scale) and I'm applying the rule one option that anything which would have gone down either branch, would ultimately be shunted at StA for return to the junction from whence it originated - either by virtue of trains leaving StA direct for said junctions or by virtue of trains shunting on the way back having arrived direct from said junctions (with the logic that there'd hardly be traffic from say Bricket Wood to St Alban's and vice versa). So if any further information has come to light, I'd love to hear about it. I have been unsuccessful in finding a drawing to organise my own 2mm scale etch so that would be a fabulous start if someone could point me at same.

  8. There maybe a trade in Horse Box etches arranged if you follow through with your mind Adam!
  9. Still time to get your entries in - the converted proprietary loco section is looking a bit thin (as is, to be fair, the scratch/kit built locos) and I know there are a few out there! Entries close on Tuesday but since I've a half day Wednesday, I'll be nice - timezones or something like that! Hit that inbox - 2mmagm2020 at gmail dot com or send it to me direct - my email is in the newsletter with the SEQAG.
  10. Invitation is easy - you'd be welcome with open arms and punters would come from far and wide to come, traversing weather and distances which would render moans about the Watford Gap irrelevant for generations. Plane tickets, sadly, are well beyond the resources of both the group and the Association Events budget. We may have to wait until you have a Crab to bring.

  12. If you want a photo of this one on Wansbeck, I'll send you my address!
  13. Just a reminder to 2mmSA members who'd be interested in sending something in for the virtual modelling competition, there is just under two weeks left to the deadline.
  14. Another vote for a 24 here - my first conversion and it took roughly 10 mins start to finish. If you do take that route, watch the contacts don't get on the wrong side of the new wheels - once you get a crease in it, it can add 2 mins to the conversion. Ask me how I know....
  15. As Ian said Simon, it's open to all 2mm SA members. I can send you the details which went to the e-board if you didn't get it if you PM me your email. Ditto to anyone else who's a member. Cheers Kevin

  17. Members who are registered for e-board notices hopefully have received notice of this year's Virtual Modelling Competition being held in conjunction with the AGM. If you didn't, can you please check to see a) if it didn't wind up in your spam/junk mail and b) possibly check with the very patient and kindly webmaster who oversees such things to see if he has your details. The categories this year are: Scratch and Kit Built locos, Converted RTR locos, Coaches and non-passenger coaching stock, Freight stock, Other items not covered above, including buildings, signals, tools, devices. I'm looking forward to seeing the entries clogging up the email and giving me something to do as I process them into some semblance of order! Cheers Kevin of Oz (joint co-ordinator).

  20. You'll have to wait for the next newsletter Andy 😉
  21. I'll preface this by saying I do actually own a lathe - presently it isn't in my shed and I haven't used it much. I should sort a space for it, get some "stuff" and practice. However, just because one doesn't have a lathe (either at all, or handy) doesn't mean one cannot do some basic things for 2mm modelling. I was looking for some tail traffic for a short passenger train and came upon my Farish CCT. Now, being as it's four wheels, it tends to look a little silly running with the 10+ Mk1s behind a 8P steam locomotive. So I figured why not? I had a look at some turned down wheels presently in the bogies of some Farish Mk 1s and figured I could do something similar with some very, very basic tools. It doesn't get more basic than this! The file is from a set I purchased years ago from the local $2 shop (Pound Shop if you like) for probably $2 for 10. It's got a triangle shape but only cuts on the front face. The battery dremel is showing it's age - something like 10 years ago I got it having seen one at one of our Australian Supermeets. The results of a few minutes can be seen here - the new shine on the wheels shows where the faces were reduced slightly to allow for the moving on the axle to the correct back to back. I also filed from the back to thin the flange and reduced the flange. So far, so good. Hasn't derailed having pushed and pulled it though everything it's going to run through - and few areas it most likely won't go on again.
  22. You're very welcome Nick. And congratulations on such a quick and neat build. That means there are now three models in 2mm out there with a fourth in progress. @queensquare has the fifth of the first run of etches. Just to clarify matters you did suggest it as a very much tongue in cheek flight of fancy - I guess @VRBroadgauge didn't know what he didn't know and went ahead and did it! Given all he got was the pages out of Essery's Midland Book with a very dodgy looking drawing and a couple of builders photos, I agree he did a stunning job. I'm going to amend mine a little to do similar with the brakes - when I organise transfers for the numbers etc, you'll get another postcard! I'm sure Anthony will be grateful for the copy for the Magazine (and it means I don't have to write my own up!)
  23. Not an exhibition as such - just our AG meeting yesterday. Exhibition with our new layout in November. The loco is slightly incongruous and also the wrong gauge but we thought it appropriate for the photo. The story should be in the next newsletter.
