Fellow RMwebber and BRMA member @P.C.M dropped in for a few hours this morning. We spent the time running some trains, talking about life on the big railway and catching up on news of mutual friends. The session did highlight that I need to clean a few locos' wheels before our next running session but apart from that it was good fun trying out some new moves, such as turning the train loco at Treloggan Junction while the Pentowan station pilot was shunting the coaches to a different platform.

Thanks for coming, Peter, and I look forward to a return fixture at Llanbourne before too long.

Thanks John, it was great to catch up have a good chat and run some trains. It's an excellent layout and those signals are just superb.

Maybe Llanbourne will get some working signals one day you've got me thinking.

    Your welcome down anytime.

    Cheers peter

The windscreen panel's welded seam on both models is too pronounced. I think the Bachmann moulded approach looks very slightly better than the Accurscale one when viewed close up, but they both work when you view the models in real life. The seam on the toughened windscreen insert is a lot more pronounced than on the early screen moulding on the AS 37 which catches my eye a little too much on 419. On that model I did pop the windscreens out to see how easy it is to do - they were fairly lightly glued in on mine. Light pressure applied around the edge of the inner moulding with a bluntened cocktail stick held in a pin vice did the job.

The signs were from Right Track Signs which I found after a Google search, but the website seems to be down when I try it now, alas :(

Thanks, Good to know if I do end up getting one i can have a go at improving it.

Thanks for the website too hopefully it's only down temporarily.

    Cheers Peter.

  4. Great work on the class 37s. It's getting hard to tell which is the Bachmann and which is the Accurascale  model. I think they do both look very good I am still not sure about the window frames I am wondering if on the Accurascale model frames can be pushed forwards as it looks like a seperate molding, I wouldn't need to be much just wondering if the recess can be reduced a little bit.

I like your depot Sign too who does them please could do with some for Llanbourne.

    Cheers Peter.

  5. Hi John, Your making great progress the layout is looking fab.

I think anything being shunted thats a bit long for the headshunt would shunt out on the Main which I think you said you may well do. Just as long as the limit of shunt is far enough out to give clearance and there is a ground signal by that first point leading into the station. We still used hand signals most of the time in my day but also had walkie talkies. 😁

    Cheers Peter.

Going back a bit, can you remember how you did the floor planks on the brake van? For old wood I generally start with Humbrol 32 dark grey and vary that with a dash of gunmetal and brown highlights but you've got a convincing dusty brown hue to that.

Yeah good question. I use a lot of Humbrol 26 which gives nice a light brown. probably mixed it with a bit of black light grey.  with a touch of bry brushing 26 and some white after.

Thanks Peter. Great shot of 20117, I have seen various photos taken between 1990 & 1992 of her some with and some without ploughs. Trying to work out when they were fitted.

No worries Nick, It seems a few of the class 20s that were outbased at Frodingham depot had ploughs fitted 121 and 169 come to mind. I found a pic of 20117 at Toton in June and Warrington in July 91 and no ploughs. My guess would be fitted later in 91 early 92 and it still had them in 95.

I would be tempted myself. 😃

    Cheers Peter.

  8. I had the chance to set the layout up this weekend. The idea was to test and sort trackwork going into the fiddleyard  as I had had some issues with track hight. Between boards. I also wanted to sort out my mock up of the shed as I thought it looked a bit on the large side.

It's now a bit smaller and looks better.

One of the highlights of relocating to Melbourne was the opportunity to visit a real legend of a layout - Llanbourne. Yesterday afternoon I was fortunate enough to be invited on a trip to see Llanbourne - a big thanks to Pete for hosting and to Jim for taxi services! A highlight of the superb layout/rolling stock being this Lima 31:

I also very much enjoyed this 47:

And a few black and white with a bit more atmosphere:

Tractor ‘427 at Llanbourne yesterday afternoon - very much enjoyed the level of depth Pete has created on his layout, as well as the superbly weathered stock. I don’t think this is far off being confused for a real photo!

    Kind regards,

    Will

It was a pleasure to have you down for the arvo Will. I am glad you liked the layout, i ran quite well apart from me forgeting to change the points a couple of times. I am sure you will be down again, you have some more spraying to do.

    Cheers Peter.
