Really? I thought that was ALL CAPS.

I perceive it as emphasis, rather than rudeness.

You are right about the all caps and I might be a bit wrong about bold equalling shouting, however it did seem a bit “attention seeking”.  Also, not sure how bold can be emphasis when the whole post is in bold.  Anyway, not important in the context of the enquiry and subsequent responses.

Thanks for the info - I just need to know that my order is "safe", I appreciate that the man has a full time job - but it would have been nice to get a quick confirmation email. I'm not in a hurry, and don't mind how long it takes.

You said you had paid by PayPal.  Have you checked their information to see how your payment is protected, to perhaps answer your concerns? Doing that might put your mind at rest?  Of course you might have done that.

I think it was maybe last year that the owner of RT suggested that his work commitments were such that  he was going to pause, or stop altogether, the model making sideline?  That seemed to have passed, just from watching this thread, but maybe he has another busy spell at his day job or pressing family commitments.  I am sure doing both jobs must be pretty onerous and would think all would agree his day job and any family issues come first.

We have seen before that negative comments can lead to small manufacturers questioning their continued activities, and I would not like to see RT, or others, consider that.

I hope that you get what you ordered in due course.  As you said, you are not in a rush for it.

ps.  typing in bold is perceived to be the equivalent of “shouting” online.

OK, so what do people think of the visibility of the communicating doors on Dapol's class 29?

As far as I was aware these were panelled over during conversion, and yes the weld lines did become steadily more visible as withdrawal approached, but surely not when first converted? (Rails photo) It's almost like they have been inspired by Hornby!

    Compare with these two:

    72 131 100672 Glasgow Works D6101+D6133

Picture from same Flickr photostream as Phil Bullock used upthread.

One on right looks to slightly show door outline below headcode box, but nothing above.

Picture of real ones suggests a pretty “clean” face compared to model, e.g. lamp irons also seem more prominent, presumably an issue of what can be reproduced commercially?

In reply to some earlier posts, I've not seen any photographic evidence (yet) of 78010 running over Stainmore, 78010 to 78014 didn't hang around at West Auckland for that long unlike 78015 to 78019 which stayed for several years. However here is plenty of evidence of 78011, 78013 and 78014 running over the Stainmore route whilst they were at West Auckland so safe to assume the other two must have.

On Stainmore Summit I had 78013, 78016, 78018 (all DJH kits) running over, so one or two more on my new layout of Barnard Castle wont go amiss.

    Richard

Off topic, but is the Barnard Castle layout going to be on the exhibition circuit?  And/or is there a thread or a blog about it?  Reason I ask is my friend has quite an interest in that town.  Thanks.

  5. Gardena Micro-Drip-System extension pipes at my local Homebase (Dumfries) - five in packet for £1.00.  (Elsewhere £4.95 or so).

    Grey plastic.  13mm (1/2") diameter.  200mm long.

Or maybe to you as a pipe wagon load, or a station platform canopy column?

    Hope not just in Dumfries!

  6. Wilko's Christmas card holders.  AKA miniature (approx. 45mm long) wooden clothes pegs.  Useful as small clamps etc.

30 pence for a pack of 20.  Was only a pound/pack or three packs for price of two, but didn't see that before Christmas!  Unfortunately, my nearest branch, Castle Douglas, only seemed to have the one packet ...  Not worth trailing around for but might be worth looking for if you are in a branch anyway.

    Hope of interest to someone.

You're right, in fact the lightmoor book doesn't have a photo of one on the Whithorn branch either. Maybe I was thinking of the Stanier 3MT and got the two conflated.

    Lightmoor book?

I'm maybe getting my recollections of LMS and BR 2-6-0s muddled, hence my qualifying my response.  I will check pictures when I can.

Stanier 3MT's  though were certainly on Kirkcudbright branch.  Judith Edge kits seem to be working towards an etched kit.

Excellent, no I have an excuse to model the Kirkcudbright Branch, by which I mean I have an excuse to buy one and claim its for that purpose.

Don't immediately recall seeing a picture of one at Kirkcudbright or on that branch.   Dumfries, Stranraer, Newton Stewart and Whithorn branch - yes or pretty certain.

Indeed, they make it practically impossible to say no.

Not quite sure what I am going to do with it yet, but an industrial shunting plank would appear to be on the cards. :D

Yes, I gave in when they were another £10 off in the Rails advent calendar offer last week!

Some good tips here gents, helped by the photos as a visual aid. Can anyone point me in  the right direction though, to a thread I was on last night, started by Swindon 123, but included comments from Chuffinghell and ACJT about modelling Scottish distilleries  (particularly Aberfeldy) featuring Barclays shunters?

    This thread?

I'm surprised that Dapol got this wagon so wrong.  You don't have to look far to find the right information.  If I can find it, surely Dapol can.

    John

Maybe it is just assembled incorrectly?  I think that was a problem with some Bachmann 00 wagons using their standard 10' underframe?  And maybe even some of their unfitted 9' wheelbase 16T minerals?

Or is it more substantial failings?  I never have got to the point when I can recall correctly the subtleties of the brakegear of fitted 16 tonners!

I recently bought six Bachmann porthole coaches - 2 x FK, 2 x TK , 2 x BTK. Some were bought used from Ebay but the two FKs were bought new from a local shop. I think that I will have to take one of them back as it doesn't roll anywhere near as freely as the rest. Each of the other five, if placed on my 1 in 70 incline, will move off from a standing start and accelerate down the slope. One of the new FKs, if placed on the same incline, won't move of its own accord and if pushed gently downhill will roll to a stop in a couple of feet. I suppose its the dreases bogie syndrome.

    “dreases”?

I don't believe this book has been mentioned yet on this Dapol topic, if you missed it:

Well worth the price, I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Thanks for drawing attention to this book and its thread on this forum.  A. bit odd that it has taken over a month for the two to be linked!

  14. Queensberry tunnel.

Highways England want to block up.  An action group and local authorities want to retain and eventually convert for cycle use.  Plenty to read about it at links below but their idea seems logical!

    Action group website:

    http://www.queensburytunnel.org.uk/index.shtml

    and their Facebook page:

    https://www.facebook.com/queensburytunnel

A petition to sign if you agree with their views: //www.change.org/p/securing-a-beneficial-future-for-queensbury-tunnel

Apologies if this is too political or if there is already a thread about it.  I did search for RMweb and Queensberry tunnel on Google and this seemed the most logical thread.

I found out about it from the EMgauge 1970s website update:

Big news of the day - my new website is now live! Just a small issue with swapping over url’s but the old site directs you to the new for now. Still lots to do but it’s a start....!

Hi.  Could I suggest you change the website link in your signature to the new one?!

Lovely quality of print, I'm planning to finish mine as 828 - paint is only an initial layer (blue is only to be an undercoat).  A great way to make a start on a Caley 0-6-0 (ok there is a chassis to source but still), and might hopefully order more once this is done.  The spare parts (different safety valves, buffers and spare whistles) will also be very handy for future scratchbuilds/bodges

Nice to see this in the flesh, so to speak.

John R - Latest list has full cost of body and chassis kit. Have a look at the website.

    Kind regards,

    Richard B

Website only seems to have deposit cost and total cost for bodies?  Some chassis etches are listed but without prices?  And do body kits include tenders, where appropriate?  Is “the list” you mention something different?

Concept is interesting but a lack of info at the moment, e.g. quality of bodies, prices etc., is a deterrent at the moment, in my opinion of course!  I also saw somewhere a similar proposal for a Caley 812, I think.  No, not the Rails one!

I have posted a comment there asking if they could provide pictures of individual locomotives, and better exposed/better lit picture so the bogie and underframe details are clear.  I also asked if the glazing was the final product, given the prismatic appearance.  Comment is subject to moderation, so lets see if it appears!

Unfortunately my comment/query has never been published in the “comments” on the page I linked to.  I do though see that there is also a message board with a thread on these, so will try the same comment on that.
