  1. Hello all,

I'm trying to compile a list of the versions of the chips (Loksound 3.5 or 4) used in Bachmann sound-fitted diesel locomotives. Below is a list of what I believe are all the sound-fitted locomotives Bachmann have produced so far. I've put a few that I know myself alongside, I therefore appeal to RMweb members to help me complete the rest. When complete I believe it will be a useful resource for people buying second hand sound locomotives.

  2. I ordered a blue one yesterday, hopefully I can change it too 40135 by removing the thanks.

    Cheers Peter.

Bad news Peter. Unlike the previous version the tanks are not separate part, but part of the chassis frame so you'll have to get a saw out... also all the switching for the lights (cab on/off and tail on/off) is located in the tanks as seems to now be standard on Bachmann models.

Not impossible but a bit tricky. Good luck!

    Bruce

  3. I am personally glad I am right but my wallet now hates me! Looks like it is time to retire the Lima Model of the same, did anyone get a pic of the 47?

Sorry Ed - could have done but I'm afraid for me it was a disappointment (yet another flush fronted 47!) so I didn't bother - livery application looked up to Bachmann's usual high standard though :)

  4. The 3 general release 47 have now been added to the Bachmann website. 32-817 has also been changed from 47791 to 47745 'Royal London Society For The Blind'.

Also new decorated sample images have been added for 47301 and D1677 'Thor'.

    Bruce

  5. Interesting. Where did you hear this from?

Bachmann's website still says Nov/Dec for 47707 in NSE and shows as last updated Tuesday 26 June (i.e. today). It seems strange they should announce a different NSE variant unless there is a body issue they don't have the tooling for. But even so they normally just renumber the loco without changing the catalogue number (as they did for the current GSYP Class 47 32-804 which morfed from D1825 with Sercks to D1572 with 3 fixed grills).

It is also unusual for Bachmann to produce the same loco with and without a DCC decoder. I would have expected a different running number at least, and possibly a different sector livery too. And for a sound version the suffix Bachmann uses is "DS" not "DC".

Rails of Sheffield's latest email bulletin. Also on their twitter account: https://twitter.com/.../railssheffield

Also the two locos are not completely the same - one is weathered the other is not. As regards the prefix, others have questioned this too but Rails say Bachmann have confirmed the loco will be sound.

    Bruce

  6. In case anyone has missed this 4 more Bachmann 47s have now been announced:

31-650M Class 47 BR Blue 1662 Isambard Kingdom Brunel in BR Blue - Modelzone LE

31-657 Class 47 47715 'Haymarket' BR Network Southeast

31-658 Class 47 47190 'Pectinidae' BR Petroleum Sector - Weathered

31-658DC Class 47 47190 'Pectinidae' BR Petroleum Sector - Pristine with Sound

However Bachmann have also said that 31-654 Class 47 47707 'Holyrood' BR Network South East will now be postponed until 2013/14.

  7. Can I have a guess? Must be 50024 Vanguard as I have one very similar..........

Excellent layout by the way, can't beat 37's and china clay.

Spot on. 10 points! 50024 around 1987 - black roof, red buffer beam and snowploughs :-)

Will be helping R&DMRC set up Railex in May so hope to have a chat then - could bring my Ajax but its the wrong gauge (00) atm!

    Bruce

  8. Could be 50 015 Valiant in CE Dutch, but not sure about the red buffer beam?

Nope. That would have had a black buffer beam. My turn for a little guessing game them

Sadly I had to sell the loco in my avatar pic - could always do another at another point in time though I suppose.

Love DitD btw... Though defiantly needs more Vacs - a few Large Logos ones for 1988 me thinks... :good:

  9. A few I took on the Saturday - quality not great as I've just got a "point and shoot" but hopefully good enough to get across what a wonderful layout this is!

  10. This might make some recoil in horror!! :crazy_mini:

50006 Neptune permanently up on jacks, after gravity started the project for me

Very nice! Reminds me of 50048's last moment of "glory" when it was taken out of the scrap lines and plonked on the jacks as part of the September 1991 Laria depot open day - it had already lost its Power unit at this point and only months later would be off to MC Metals for breaking.

  11. Hi all

Thanks for that info D400 did 50031 and 50049 also have Eastfield terriors applied at some point

    regards

    Dave

Yes - scotty dogs were applied for the March 2005 "Monarch of Glen" 4 day tour - again with Pathfinder. Though they came off rather more easily so were only present for the tour.

    Bruce

  12. That was 50049.

Make it two as 50031 also received stags for Pathfinder's "The Orcadian" 4 day Scottish Land cruise in June 2006. The locos also received split personalities 50031 becoming 50028 and 50049 becoming 50012 - both on one side only. It was hoped the vinyls would come off pretty cleanly after the tour however after the ones on 50031 took quite a bit of paint off as well - 50049 retained its stags for several weeks, during which time both locomotives worked on the Cardiff - Fishguards.

  13. Good afternoon,

Does anybody have a photo of 50 048 (real loco in ONSE) they could upload on here. I am looking to see a straight side on veiw if possible, as need to see what colour the vents are (one on bottom of roof) and also have a look at the upswept NSE stripes at the cab ends. From the thousands i have looked at all the locos are slightly differant and as they are on an angle impossible to tell properly......

    Darren.

Those are pretty close to what you are looking for I think.

    Bruce

  14. ok, so they have got a few of the right. maybe i exagerated a bit in my oringinal post. but,

50002 blue is far too dark. plus terrible weathering

50007 red number/nameplates  and wasn't there something about the LA symbols being wrong? then there was also the weathered version <_<

    50031 wrong crests

50007 wern't the nameplates in the wrong position on this one?

50007 carried red nameplates (and ploughs) in Preservation: http://www.preserved-diesels.co.uk/2004/50007_3.htm and http://www.preserved-diesels.co.uk/2004/50007_6.htm - why however Hornby choose to model the loco in this condition is anyone's guess - although it did give them a chance to "show off" how good their printing was - the full colour crest were very fine indeed. I like most however choose to simply backdate mine with a set of black etched plates.

50031 has carried two different types of crests over the years so I'm sure not they were wrong.

    Bruce

  15.

I need to add radio pods to a number of my locos. I bought some from A1 but they are massively overscale, look about right for 7mm in fact. As per previous thread on last RMWeb I will probably make some from plasticard but I was wondering had anyone tried the sjrmodels (www.sjrmodels.com) - R01: Roof Aerial x2 (Square NRN type)? Is this the correct type, I think it is?

I do not have Lion due to the window issue, did Hornby ever do a batch with that fixed?

    http://www.shop.hurstmodels.com/ldp103-ground-plate-and-nrn-flat-radio-aerial-214-p.asp

Hurst ones are pretty good - same size as the Hornby ones and a pretty good match.
