I have a Clipper bought IIRC in 1963 for 39 shillings. I use it with the Hornby Rolling Road which I've never been able to get to work with the Powercab. All of my locos are less than three years old and I find that I hardly turn the knob on the Clipper before the stock takes off like a rocket - thank goodness they are on a rolling road!
This supports the idea that this type of controller is more suited to older power hungry locos rather than modern ones,

Dave

I remember using Farthings. This odd fraction was on a loaf at our local bread shop. Then all of a sudden they weren't used but I cannot remember which year (1952?)
According to Wikipedia farthings were legal ender until the end of 1960 but I don't remember seeing them in circulation and I had started school in Coronation Year :-)

Peter,
The question is will you be able to recreate the smell associated with tar and creosote ?

Peter,
First class work, particularly impressed by the TPO

there are far too many layouts shown at exhibitions, that start like frightened jack-rabbits in a drag race, and stop so abruptly the all the passengers would be jammed against the backs of seats in front, saying - through squashed noses " HI zupoz u tink dats very funni!!"
When I had a Trix Twin trainset as a boy 50+ years ago I can remember my father telling me I had killed all my "passengers". I learnt to accelerate & decelerate smoothly

Geoff,
that picture has a lovely feel to it - definitely a drowsy summer evening!

My first ever layout when I was about 15 was on a 6' x 1' board using a similar idea. Off to try and find a 'trial' track plan bit of software so I can post up the plan.
Andrew
I use AnyRail trial version

Dave,
You say you've spent a lot of the time on the trees - believe me it shows - they are brilliant!

I've followed your thread with interest - Bluebell was the first preserved railway I visited in 1969
The loco looks really great but I do have a soft spot for Fenchurch - always liked that colour on a loco!
Keep it coming,

A layout belonging to one of the members of the club has the Heljan TT, expensive but the lining up of tracks is very good and it's easy to Anglicize. Will probably use one on Danemouth once things get moving

Thanks for the plan - most impressed with the simplicity of it!

Hugh,
That's two Balvenies I like, the spirit and the layout Can I ask my favourite questions please? What size and can we see a track plan please?
Cheers,

Track is really impressive, particularly the scissors crossing. Wish had your level of skill, I'm all thumbs!
